We chose this hotel because it was within the walls of Saint-Malo and appeared to be at the centre of things in the walled city. A really excellent choice in that we were within short walking distance of all the action! We arrived by car, the sat nav taking us through the narrow streets of Saint-Malo and delivering us exactly outside the hotel. The reception at the hotel was very friendly and we were asked if we wanted to use the garage for our two day stay. We opted for this as we then knew the car would be safe and secure in the underground car park. There are only two spaces available for guests so it is wise to book in advance, otherwise one has to use the public parking outside of the walls, as it appeared that most people had to because we could hear the trundling of suitcases over the cobbles well into the evening! Our room was on the second floor and was reached by the compact lift which was not big enough for two people and a large suitcase. Our room was fairly dark in that the walls were decorated in purple and only a smallish window looking out onto the old fish market in the square below. The bed was large and with crisp white linen. With the curtains pulled and bedside lights on the room became very romantic! The shower room was very small but adequate for our stay. Breakfast was served in a small breakfast room and consisted of the usual continental display of fruits, bread and croissants, jams and honeys and breakfast cereals, and a constant supply of coffee and tea if required. In summary then, an excellent two nights sleep right in the middle of the action. The hotel management were friendly and welcoming. Come again? Yes please!

I wanted to see the third stage of the 2008 Tour de France up close, and planned a short trip to St. Malo to view it. I wanted a hotel in the old town, somewhere walking distance from the start of the Tour and reasonably priced. This hotel was one of the hotels suggested by an online hotel site and it fit my criteria so I booked it. It’s located on a small square across from the fishmarket, in a large stone building. There is a bar area, breakfast room and a lift to the upper floors. My room was huge, with a large desk, wardrobe and king sized bed. The bathroom was small but fine as long as you only wanting a shower(I dislike baths so I was happy with it). The staff were friendly and helpful, though the maids don’t speak English. I forgot my code to get in after hours, though the owner happily came by to let me in(doh!). Because the town doesn’t get much traffic(they charge a fee to drive into the old town), I had a very quiet and restful sleep. The breakfast was great, with fresh pastries, hot options and tea, coffee and hot chocolate. The next time I visit St. Malo, I plan on booking my hotel with this one, since it lived up to my expectations and more!
