Great spot on the winding narrows of Barrack Street, where I climbed/rolled down in my stupor many a night. The décor inside is fabulous, all wood and bookshelves(where you can pull down a few titles for perusing); all round a beautiful coffee shop. Yet, lovely owners of Alchemy, you greatly oversell yourselves as a high-end coffee establishment, with prices to match. Now, a disclaimer, this was last Xmas, and maybe its all different now, and I’ll go when I’m back in a few weeks and see what the craic is and maybe change the review(you are looking well in the papers!). Anyway the grave sin that blights my review is that I paid a lot for a Chemex, with the beans and grind your barista recommended(despite my strong feeling she wasn’t too experienced), only for it to be left sitting there for ages. FAR longer than the 3 – 4 minutes it takes for a Chemex to brew. It came out bitter(over-extracted?), and with a burnt taste(too hot water?). Not the ‘smooth, chocolate notes’ that the beans were prided on. Looking forward to a return visit.

Great addition to Barrack street, just started out, but on the right track, great coffee knowledge and a good brew to boot. selection of 3FE beans for sale as well, morning pastries as well… usually freshly baked. just up the hill from the old Elizabethan fort. dog friendly and worth a visit for the caffeine hit
