This pub is famous. It’s been around for a long time. But it is fresh and new inside. Very bright and spacious. The staff was friendly and attentive. The Mrs had salmon and fries and loved the salmon. I had the special — steak burger — with fries(like Salisbury Steak). Both the Mrs. and I had cold French Fries At the edge of the plate but there were so many other steak fries that it didn’t matter. Save for the cold fries I would have rated this place five stars.

The staff were friendly Guinness was lovely. They really need to bring in more craft cider. That Alaska cider(I think it’s called). Tastes like fizzy mi’wadi. Awful stuff. Didn’t know the pub brought in a more matured crowd. There’s nothing wrong with that of course. Everyone thanked the staff on the way out. Which is nice to see. Given that it was busy. We’ll go back for sure, but, I’ll hang on till my mother wants to join us!

Davy Brynes is really a must for Joyce fans. Even if you hate cheese sandwiches. Even if you don’t want a glass of burgundy. Because it’s not about the food, it’s about the experience. That being said, the other food we ordered(besides the copycat meal of Leopold Bloom) wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. The only thing I really liked were our pints of Guinness and the cozy atmosphere. The proximity to Grafton St. and Trinity College is also a plus. So is this a nice pub to chill out in after walking around Dublin the whole day? Yes, very much so. Would I come here specifically to eat dinner on an average Tuesday? No.

I have been there on an Friday night, just stopped by on my way from work. No IPAss or Pale Ales on tap, but a O’Hara in the bottle. Still good, little bit pricey though. Almost no music, but still a «loud» bar, since it was almost full. guests are 30+, neatly dressed and well mannered(either that, or I’ve been to too many shady Pubs in the last time). nice place, but I guess nothing for me.

Another great pub with massive amounts of history and wonderfully poured pints of the black stuff.

This place is amazing. The interior is beautiful and the food is delicious. I had my first meal in Dublin here, Irish stew, and I can say that, jet lag or no, it was wonderful. The place has a massive amount of charm and ambiance, and while we were there, there were two charming elderly Irish ladies who had come in for a pint of Guinness to warm themselves up after a day of shopping. I couldn’t have asked for a better meal or experience on my first day in Ireland.

I can’t review the food but i love the décor and the staff are attentive without being in your face. The bar staff are professionals and a nod is enough to get you a round.

This is the place to be on bloomsday!!! Excellent foods and wines — not to mention the gorgonzola cheese sandwich and the glass of burgundy. This is the place to go after shopping downtown. 4 stars only for being overrefurbished.

Great bar staff, even on a busy night. It’s more restaurant then bar, but fits nicely in the pub. It’s not overly expensive even though it’s near Grafton and Dawson. I would rate most of the food above average, but we had a cottage pie on special that was awesome. Quality joint and a fun place to watch a game if you’re not looking for a sports bar.

if your on the literary pub crawl this is definitely one of your stops. the walls have seen James joyce and the whole pub was hen made famous by him when he wrote about the place and its owner in his books. isnt that great? anyway its not a totally over done irish pub and neither is it gone alll minimalist and modern, its just right. its a pity though when you are in there for a drink and a chat(its quiet enough for that) and a big group of tourists come in exclaiming and cooing about the place.

I went to Davy Byrnes today to watch the Stephen’s Day interpro Rugby matches. There is nothing wrong with the pub itself and the service was great. I also liked the comfy chairs and there was a great atmosphere in the place. But who decided to put the high chairs right in between the TV and the lower couches? That little complaint and the price of the pints aside, I had a good time. It’s the sort of place where you end up talking to the people on the table beside you because technically the couch is one big couch and the tables are very small. Less posing than I’d expected and it was positively tourist-free, but I guess that was because it was christmas.

As a tourist(but not a literature anorak), I found this place really nice! I sat up at the bar and enjoyed the fried brie and a pint. The vibe is good, didn’t feel very touristy to me, lovely interior, and nice service. I would definitely pop in again. It feels like a place I would hit from time to time at home.

It is so nice to sit outside Davy Byrnes on a sunny Dublin day. Grab a pint or a coffee and watch the world go by. It’s tucked away from the madness of Grafton St but close enough that you still get some very interesting people watching opportunities. This is a tourist puller so prices are inflated accordingly, but Davy Byrnes doesn’t have an overly touristy feel to it so is good for locals as well. One of those places you can sit at for hours, discussing your plans to change the world…

One of Dublin’s famous literary pubs with it Joycean associations. It is full of character and quite classy and it is over 100 years old. The food here is gorgeous and the best thing on the menu for me is the Traditional Irish Stew! It is warming, comforting and really really rich and tasty!

For those who don’t know the history of Davy Byrne’s it was one of James Joyce’s locals and immortalised forever in Ulysses. As a result expect the place to be full of tourists and Joyce enthusiasts. This means its generally always busy with a nice buzz. Tourists and Literature anoraks aside its not a bad place for a quiet pint and beats the Bailey if your just not in the mood for posing. Great for the start of the night before heading on somewhere else. As it can be a be formal. As well as the pints they do food, a lot of seafood and € 10 Panini’s, dunno what old James would have made of this. As the man himself said; ‘Nice quiet bar. Nice piece of wood in that counter. Nicely planed. Like the way it curves.’

A famous Dublin pub but sadly let down a little by being modernised too much. Still serves an excellent Guinness though — the food is good too. Overall, however, it’s not as good as one would expect and it’s not really a favourite of younger Dubliners.

This pub(Dublin’s ‘most famous literary pub’ after being mentioned in James Joyce’s Ulysses!) is my regular haunt after a days spent shopping on Grafton Street or in St Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre. Situated just off Grafton Street they offer a great wine list which I always drink from, and my boyfriend enjoys their selection of ales. The best thing apart this pub, other than its location, would have to be the food menu which is both varied and delicious. Offering everything from steak to pasta, the prices aren’t nearly as extortionate as many of the other pubs that I have been in around Dublin. Although certainly not cheap, the prices reflect the quality of the food and are, in my opinion, very reasonable. The dessert menu too is well worth a look, although the main meals are so filling that sometimes this is impossbible!
