My roomie looked at my panda eyes & bedraggled appearance, ‘What the hell did you get up to last night? I don’t have the energy to talk anymore. You look like something the cat dragged in. Must be a big feckin cat.‘ She whooshed me out the door like a supermodel directing a broken beggar into her sleek motor. We drove to this gallery. She kindly shared with me that my crack head appearance would not arise embarrassment for her in an art gallery. ‘You will look interesting here. You really build my self esteem. You should wash your face.‘ Even though I was in a tender state I managed to focus and admire the art on display. It’s a very compact small spot but as John said if you like Bob Dylan or Mickey Mouse playing with a revolver, you will like this. Curator was very pleasant and said they have many open nights with free booze.

Housed on the ground floor of a funky modern building, Gallery number One is a great contemporary art gallery located between two famous Dublin landmarks, Burdocks chipper and christchurch cathedral. As they put it themselves; ‘Gallery Number One celebrates the creative link between art, music and popular culture’ its current exhibition fits right into that coda, Bob Dylan’s;The rolling thunder revue, by Ken Regan. Which follows Bob Dylan and the various other members of rock and roll royalty in the 70’s. This runs until the end of July. All of the prints are for sale, and are pricey. Its even worth a look around if your a Dylan fan or fan of photojournalism.

We visited here recently for the launch of the company website. It is a delightful little gem of a gallery located in a spot that looks out on Christ Church cathedral and Burdocks! This is owned by a creative agency called Ebow and as galleries go, this has a young vibe about it. From the Ronnie Wood paintings and photos of Dylan, there are various objects of desire that you would actually buy if you had the money in this credit crunch. I usually get a snooty vibe from galleries but not this one as it is run by young people in the know what is happening at the moment in popular culture. They host art exhibitions, launches and cosy little impromtu gigs by muscians. Everybody from the company including clients enjoyed the ambience and food and drink. It was a enjoyable evening that I wouldn’t mind repeating in the near future.
