May and June seem to be big birthday months amongst my friends and colleagues. so today we decided to get cupcakes. As we’re in the neighbourhood, Johnnie’s seemed to be the most logical option. Now, before I continue, and I’ve asked many people this question with an insufficient explanation, why on earth do people still pay at least € 2 for a simple cupcake? It’s not like they’re made of gold… and you would think these days that companies would have more sense than to charge such silly prices. But it was our friend’s birthday and there’s no skimping on your friends, right? So we got 10. And we asked if there was any kind of deal for large orders. No. Was there a loyalty card. No. Could you be any less helpful or friendly? Absolutely. If you’re trying to rustle up some business and maintain a good customer base, maybe try a few more incentives that will make me part with my € 2. Otherwise there are tastier options for the same price. Oh, and the cupcakes themselves? Tasty. But nothing to write home about. I think I’ll stick with the French boulangerie/patisserie across the way on Moore Street!

Ordered ove the phone — 24 Cupcakes for my daughter’s 21st birthday party cake. Halloween theme mixed with 21st Birthday. Paid via email invoice and paypal. The cakes were delivered as arranged and they were amazing. Tasted as good as they looked. The BIGHIT of the evening. Thanks so much.
I can highly reccommend Johnnie Cupcakes.

Now, I haven’t tried ALL the varieties of cupcakes from this stall so I apologise! My mum saw the stand and got all excited and bought a selection so I chose the double chocolate one. It was OK. Marks and Spencer do far nicer ones to be honest. The frosting here actually had some lumps in it and a slightly greasy feel. Personally wouldn’t really bother again-I prefer the ones from or Lolly and Cooks for example. On the other hand, my little sister loves the rocky road cupcake they do… because she doesn’t like frosting and it’s more like a fairy cake with some marshmallows on top! I’m all about the frosting though so will be taking in fat calories elsewhere…

Occupying the child-magnet that once was CupsnCreams in the Ilac Centre, Johnnie Cupcakes offers those same tasty, frosted dessert bullets for here or to go. With the addition of a sit-in(or, sit-at) coffee bar, perfectly hidden behind the main counter for serious people-watching, Johnnie Cupcakes has risen a step above other mall sweet stands. Choose from more than a dozen varieties under the glass, from Banoffee and Lemon Drizzle to raspberry cremes, double chocolate, vanilla dip… *drool*… Sorry, where was I? Choose a cupcake or two and order a coffee, the stand serves Bewley’s coffee and teas so it’s a pretty sure bet you’ll get a decent cuppa. Buying in small quantities the cupcakes are € 2 each, although buying a dozen or more(Johnnie Cupcakes also do wedding orders as well as supersize birthday cupcakes) offers a better price. Meanwhile, a Banoffee cupcake and a smooth black coffee? Yes. Please.
