Bought a 4 cupcake gift box for a birthday present at the weekend, which went down really well. Some of their toppings/flavours are great, I love the strawberry and champagne one and the lemon poppy one is a delight too. Some of the others are a bit hit n miss. Cupcake bakeries are new and rare in Ireland so won’t bother comparing them to ones in London or New York City, I’m just glad they’re catching on here. Wish someone did a Red Velvet cupcake here though! I could live on those alone. Had a recent bad cupcake in Lolly and Cooks so glad there is an alternative just down the road. Although it always seem empty and lonely, so I hope they’re doing OK business and don’t close down.

2 stars on Unilocal is «meh. I’ve experienced better» and I have. Had some samples today and wasn’t overly impressed. Now, I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m a cupcake connoisseur, but I do appreciate an artfully baked and decorated cupcake. These are passable, and OK if you have nothing else, but there are far better options. The frosting on the varieties I sampled today was overly sweet and the cake was very dry. They are cheap enough… but tasted it too. I’d advise going out the back of the Powerscourt Centre and toddling along to Lolly and Cooks. More expensive, but things you put in your mouth should make you happy ;-)

With at least a dozen flavours of cupcakes creatively decorated and arranged in colourful towers, the Cupcakes stand on the ground floor of the Powerscourt Centre appears as some sort of frosted fairyland to the frustrated or hungry shopper. Their cupcakes are homemade and individually frosted by hand. Their decoration is fairly simple but cheerily appealing, though it must be said that it would be difficult to create a depressing cupcake. I chose a pre-selected box of four buns, which included Vanilla bean, Passion fruit, Irish Cream Cappuccino and Toffee Apple. Though I have never understood the decision to attempt to make bakery items taste like tropical fruit, the Passion fruit cupcake was remarkably tasty. The cupcake for all the coffee enthusiasts out there is without question the Irish Cream Cappuccino. A moist coffee-flavoured cake covered with swirls of Irish cream frosting and topped with espresso-chocolate beans, it speaks for itself. The cupcakes are € 2.50 for one or € 9.50 for four. I’ll certainly be back for the Oreo one before long.

Thanks to you Alexandra, I’ve found this place at last! This cute cupcake stand looks amazing and provides sweet temptation for Powerscourt Centre shoppers. Great for a mid-afternoon sweet treat, although I confess I prefer the ones at Howth markets…

Imagine my sense of shock and wonderment when I discovered that my favourite toy stand in the Powerscourt Centre was turned into a cupcake stand. I got over my disappointment when I inspected the goods. Beautifully bright cupcakes sat on the top of the counter in all kinds of delicious flavours. The treats made me think that I was at a magical tea party in some child’s fantasy. I had a taste of the vanilla cupcake and it was gorgeous. Very sweet but name me one cupcake that isn’t! Cupcakes would be a delightful present for a friend’s birthday. Or again, they would be nice surprise at a dinner party. Any special occasion merits one of these round cakes. Buy an assorted box of 4 for 9.50 Euro.
