I have been coming here since I was born. Literally. As soon as I was Christened in Aughrim Street church I was brought through these doors. I had my 18th here and there’s been countless family events from wedding anniversaries to funerals to Christenings to birthday parties that I have attended over the past 34 years. That makes me sound really old but I did start coming here about 17 ½ years before I was legally allowed to drink in my defense. My last visit here was my grandparents anniversary a couple of months back. As I sat in Aughrim Street church applying sun screen so as not to burn and listening to a boring hypocritical priest blabber on about something mundane I thought to myself, f*ck this. I am not sitting here listening to this crap. The best way to remember my grandparents is to go to their local and have a pint for them. Not sit in a church which finds my lack of heterosexuality intrinsically evil. So that’s what I did. I had not been there in years. I went into the bar and it had not changed. The most amazing feeling of nostalgia came over me as I walked through those doors. I sat at the bar and ordered a Guinness. Not a bad pint either. Staff are nice in here and some have been here as long as I remember. I do however feel like there is very much a local vibe to this bar, so you may get the odd look off the locals if you were not a regular. But I think this is more to do with the patrons more so than the staff. That’s not to say it’s unfriendly but you know that feeling when you walk into a pub and the regulars are thinking. «Who’s this fella now.» There’s a great function room upstairs. A good sized beer garden and as far as I know they do serve lunch. I may be slightly biased as this place does have a tonne of memories for me. But over the years for any of my friends who have come here with me they have loved it. It’s a friendly local pub that should definitely be visited for a pint if you are passing by.

We came in here on Stephen’s day as it was the only place open in the area. We were pleasantly surprised. It’s a lovely local pub in stoneybatter. Lowest prices around, friendly staff, grey atmosphere. Highly recommended if your in the area and looking for a good night out.
