Maureens bar is one of those great little spots in dublin that is part of the history of Dublin and i suppose the Olympia in particular. Maureen has worked behind this bar for 60 years, I didnt see her there when I was in the olympia last night(which makes me wonder has she retired, or was she just on a night off) but i have been served by her many times and i feel honoured by this because she will go down in the history of the olympia, they even have her story written up on a poster in one of the ladies toilets. Its a great bar to drink, in proper irish and as was mentioned below it is covered in pictures of all the famous people who have been in there or who have performed in the theater. If you ever go to the Olympia, make sure you get a drink in here, just so you can feel like part of the place. I managed to find a picture of Maureen herself, just so you can see who i’m talking about!

Run by 82-year-old Maureen Grant, Maureen’s Bar is the better of the two bars downstairs in the venerable Olympia Theatre on Dame Street. It is possibly as close as it gets in the city to an entertainment hall of fame. Or perhaps that should be ‘wall’ of fame for all three sides are covered with signed, framed 8×12’s of the great, the good and in many cases the forgotten of the showbiz world. So if you fancy a pre-gig drink in interesting and historical surrounding, this is the place to have it. Also, if you’re wondering where the stars hang out post-gig, you may find them here, though unless you’ve a special pass, the bouncers will have moved you on before you can indulge in serious star spotting.
