My friends and I came here frequently when we used to live down the road. It’s usually quite quiet, a nice place to stop for a chat, which is a valuable quality to find in a pub when you don’t feel like having to shout to your companions. I’ve even been on a Friday night, and there was hardly anyone in the place. The bartenders aren’t chatty, but friendly enough. We met the owner a few times, and she was extremely friendly and talked to us for a while. Nothing out of the ordinary in the décor. We came one weekend during a rugby match and it was a bit more lively, which was nice. We got food as well– they do great chips and one of us ordered the vegetable soup with brown bread. We got a brownie as well, which was surprisingly good. Pub brownies should be a thing.

I truly, truly hate this place, I wish I could give 0 stars. I gave it one star before, and I vowed never to go back, but I believe in 2nd chances. I had the worst time here on St. Patrick’s day! The place was dead, but we ordered a beer. The lady came and gave me incorrect change, so I asked her about it, and she just stared and me and left. I got up to stop her and said«wait,» and again she just looked at me and left, never coming back. Never came to clear our glasses, nothing — it was an awful night. I hope this places closes down and burns!!! Thanks for ruining ym night and my St Patrick’s day…

Murphy’s was my local for a long time and everyone I know loves it. It’s a great place to pop into for a quiet pint on a weeknight or to watch a match at the weekend. If you’re with a smaller group there’s a couple different nooks and different more secluded areas as well as larger tables and tons of seating around the bar. The barmen are really the stars here and they’re always happy to see you and the service is top notch. I’ve never felt anything, but welcome at Murphy’s and it’s the reason I’ve always gone back. I’ve never been there when it’s super busy, but it can get a bit crowded if there’s a big match on, but with plenty of seating and just enough big screen TVs you’re sure to get a good view without having to crane your neck around another punters head. I’ve had the toasties here and for a nice cheap price they’re quite tasty as are the chips and the food always comes out piping hot, which makes it even more delicious. I’d definitely suggest it for a relaxing night out with mates, or for a catch up gossip session and because there’s table service you’ll never have to leave your cushy seat! I forgot to add my favourite part of Murphy’s! They’ve got a nice big ladies’ room that’s always clean! Something that’s hard to come by in a lot of pubs these days, where it seems the ladies room was put in as an after thought!

A darling amongst the Rathmines contingency, Murphy’s is a dearly loved Irish pub situated in the heart of Rathmines village. The moment you enter the pub it feels instantaneously Irish with an abundance of authentic Irish memorabilia such as pictures, crests and rustic furnishings. This is small-town Ireland at it’s best; a pub geographically located in the capital Dublin but exudes a time-honoured, classic Irish rural-community backdrop. Here, true to the bucolic, countrified vibes the place gives off, they never forget a face and owing to this act of friendliness as well as overall affability the pub radiates you will feel you’ve been a regular for years. The second time I went in there the bar tender even knew what drink I was going to order before I so much as opened my mouth. The pub often boasts a decent sized crowd so this is in no way a reflection that their clientele is either so small or foreseeable that the staff are not kept busy but in fact earnest evidence of the staff’s assiduousness. The table service too is first-rate and you can order drinks from the staff whilst they are clearing the empty glasses from your table and go up and pay for them at the bar later on, the place is that relaxed. Murphy’s is well sized and there are a lot of different places to sit, ranging from cosy corners with comfortable couches to lots of rustic tables with chairs, as well as the expected large contingency of bar stools making this place a perfect watering hole for groups and couples alike, whether you’re visiting for a quiet drink or something a bit more raucous such as a session with your mates or to watch the match on one of the three well positioned plasma screens. It wouldn’t be an Irish establishment without it providing an ample smoking facility outside, and they do, dutifully. It may be in the form of an old garage but it’s big enough to accommodate about 20 people at one time, you can take your drinks out with you and importantly it features a garage roof to provide safe haven against the tumultuous Irish weather. There’s nothing like a heavy shower to annihilate any enjoyment from what was set out to be your time to kick back with a cigarette. The garage door itself stays open and looks out on to the road behind the pub. The drinks are no cheaper nor more expensive than what you would expect from a high-quality Irish pub with a Guinness priced at € 5.50. Pleasingly, Murphy’s also serves soup that is bursting with flavour and hearty toasties(€ 3) before 5pm everyday. I have often enjoyed a hearty lunch of this kind in there whilst taking refuge inside from a wintry Dublin. Just talking about this place makes me want to go back right away. It is not often in Dublin you find somewhere so characteristically Irish yet unique unto itself owing to its meticulous service and how it remains ablaze with sincerity.

Back when i lived in Rathmines where i grew up this was my local my fathers local and his friends local. BUT it was back then under different ownership and had a different name. Its not a bad auld pub to be honest i have some great memorys of this place but since the change of ownership few years ago it aint the same which is why i dont drink there when im in Rathmines now. Most of the old crowd who were of all ages are no longer drinking there and it has to many students and all Im 23 so not like im an auld one or anything there just not my cup of tea So i guess this aint the worst place in the world but its lost its charm it had couple years back as most of the working class local rathmines people no longer drink there.
