Five stars. Slatterys in Rathmines is my favourite pub in Dublin. There is something special here. The widescreen TVs are cool. I know the lads who put them in from a great TV store up the road Upstairs sees new bands and those giving it a try for a shot on the spot. I’m a downstairs man and it’s just special. A small long snug is unique. Great bar staff. I have been here a lot and am due a visit Highly regarded bar by all I add 5 stars without doubt. #Best bar in the county.

It’s hard to put your finger on what makes Slatterys so special. Décor-wise it could be any traditional Dublin pub. The seats in the front bar aren’t the most comfortable height-wise but the snug and hallway(back snug?) behind the bar are a bit quirky. The back/side bar is a bit more luxurious with a couple of TVs but this is a pub that gently accommodates rather than focuses on sporting events. No big screens or booming commentary. What keeps me coming back is the excellent Guinness, friendly staff and above all general good vibe of the place. Like Rathmines itself it’s usually an eclectic mix of young professionals, hipsters, hippies and eccentric characters.

Slatterys Rathmines is a Pub in Dublin. The famous boozer is known for its friendliness, characters and beautiful ladies. A famous play writer once remarked«the show changes every hour and its unrehearsed». Call in and enjoy great wit and humour. Oops and a gargle.

One of the best pubs in Dublin in my mind. And as I was finishing off what was meant to be a quick drink, I said to my friend that this was one of the best pints of Guinness in the city! So there.

I know I have updated this review already, and if there was a way I could give them 6 gazillion stars I would. I can’t so they will continue to get five stars forever. I have some friends visiting from Prague recently as the both get ready to move to South America. They guys who run the pub knew this, and on their last night in town let us stay for almost 45 minutes after everyone else left so we could finish our beers, chat, giggle, flirt with them, and generally have a lovely last evening together. I am going to be sad if I have to move away from Dublin and can’t visit this place every few weeks.

Nice bar which is also very close to the Swan Cinema so is a great place to hang out whilst waiting for a film. Its very traditional interior all dark wood and soft seats. Sky Sports inside and a few regular locals, normally means a good Guinness is on tap. So its a great place to get off the bustle of the street and have a beer or too.

It was very humid today and I traipsed the town in and out of meetings. All I wanted was a refreshing beer as I took a break to do emails. Late afternoon and I sat at the bar working away. 20 minutes later a man decided I’m fair game and sits beside me telling me that he is a musician and he needs me to promote him cause, «You are so fast on the computer.» I simply opened a new window. I decided to be polite and entertain the drunk with a strained smile, hoping he would pass out with the shock of the speed at which I was opening new browsers. Alas he decided to sing to me. At this point the bartender moved closer to the bar making me feel safe. «I don’t mean to be rude but I’ve a deadline and as nice and all as your singing is I just need to work.» «But you are so fast on the computer.» «Thank you.» «I need someone like you, money is no object. Are you in the game?» «The game?!» «I like your style!» «What game?!» As I started to adjust to the idea of me being perceived as a hooker that opens browsers really fast the bartender stepped in. «The girl told you she is working.» But what did the word«working» really mean anymore in this context I thought in a panic. «But she’s really fast on the computer and we are having a lovely conversation. Don’t bar me — please.» «I won’t if you finish your pint and leave.» «OK» “Thank you for that.” «No problem, I had to wait till he said he was bothering you before I could step in, I hope you understand.» «Of course, thanks.» Seriously men of Ireland, just cause a woman goes to the bar alone does not mean she is automatically: 1. An alcoholic 2. Single 3. A hooker!

Other than making Rathmines look a bit like a winter wonderland, I can thank the current freeze for introducing me to the genius of the hot whiskey! And Slattery’s is a great bar to make it’s acquaintance. An old-fashioned no-nonsense boozer, the place is all wood furnishings and banter.

Has life gotten you down? Want somewhere to hide from the cruel world where you won’t have to engage in conversation? Then Slattery’s is the place for you, that is, if you manage to sneak inside the little«room» next to the bar, close the door and the only person you need to deal with is the barman. Great! Slattery’s is also excellent for the good times, for match days and pints out with friends. And if you come here to drown your sorrows but realize after a pint or two that you have absolutely nothing to whine about, just open the door and invite whomever to join you for the next round. The regulars are a happy bunch always in the mood for chats.

There is nothing Gastro, Super or Mega about this authentic Old Mans Pub in the heart of Rathmines. With tongue-and-groove wood ceilings, creaking stained wooden floors and a genuine snug(that’s almost always taken) in the lounge, Slattery’s is a genuine pub experience that’s easy to enjoy. On Bombay Pantry nights we’ll wait here while our order cooks, sipping our bevvies and sitting in with regulars, soaking up the atmosphere. The main area is open-plan with a few tall stools around the pillar tables plus niche booths and seating at the bar. Papering the high walls throughout are framed sketches and gig posters, really adding to the atmosphere of a favourite local spot, The crowd here is well balanced, in the evenings there’s plenty of aul fellas and pensioners mixed with the pilates and yoga crowd –though who’s more likely to end up in the downward facing dog by the end of the night is anyone’s guess.

I love this pub. It’s a real old-school, spit on the floor type of place, full of regulars. It’s a great spot to go for pints because it has none of that pretentiousness that a lot of Dublin bars developed in the last few years. I lived near here for a bit and so hung out here a lot. But it’s such a cool pub that I would still go to Rathmines especially to have a drink here.

I came across an old photograph recently of Rathmines in the early 1900s, and there, on the corner of the Rathmines and the Rathgar Road, amongst the old tram lines, is Slattery’s pub. At the time, the pub was one of the main businesses in the village. Since then, the building itself has been eclipsed by shopping centres, petrol garages, supermarkets, trendy bars and cafes, and a plethora of takeaways, but for many, Slattery’s remains the heart of Rathmines. Little has been done to modernise the décor over the years. The worn old floorboards creak as you walk over them, the red leatherette couches sprout foam from their sagging middles, and the tables are wonky and beer-stained. But such is the charm of the place. The bar itself is the original, with a secretive frosted glass area to the side by which the barmen pass through a doorway between the serving area and the pub. Like many of the«traditional Irish pubs», Slatterys is crammed with old whiskey bottles and crumbling books, though unlike most other places, you really get the impression that this«memorabilia» is the real deal, odds and ends which were left lying around the pub over the years which eventually became part of the décor. I was fascinated by the ancient gas heater hanging from the ceiling in the front room, rusty and covered in cobwebs, a sure fire and safety hazard in its day. You certainly wouldn’t find the likes in Tramco or Toast down the road. The barmen are veterans of their trade, and pour an excellent pint of Guinness. There’s a whole host of regulars propping up the bar, or huddled in groups in the corners, a welcoming and convivial crowd. The upstairs area is often opened up as an intimate live music venue(though the long, narrow room makes it difficult to see the performers on stage from the back), and there’s a new heated and covered smoking area out the back. Slattery’s is best for a midweek pint, when there’s always a table to be had; even standing space cannot be guaranteed at the weekends.

Slatterys Rathmines is a panic. A panic, as in there’s always a banter and a good laugh to be found in there. Upstairs does live gigs with cover charge every so often. The pint is very good in there. It has a genuine ambience and is a real traditional pub. Its very easy to meet people there, as it is a friendly place. It is more so a local. It is often a quiet escape for many on the way home from work. A quick pint and off they go, for the dinner. The reason being as one can totally chill out in Slatterys and not be bothered or join in on the criac. Its very laid back and one of the last of the real pub scene.

slatterys is in my opinion the best the pub in Rathmines. Its a great place to go for a nice quiet pint during the day or at lunch and then at night time you will find a good solid young crowd. The pub offers an upstairs as well and on weekends the place is jammed full. There is a great atmosphere here in Slattery’s and it has a very traditional design with a snug and lots of little areas to discover. They offer good quality prices at a just a little less then the pubs in the city centre. They also play host to live music upstairs.
