We did our research and thought we’d go for tapas, navigated our way to this place and now find it appears to be a Thai rub n tug massage parlour! Fortunately the area is full of restaurants and we went for a curry which was excellent!

I am walking past this place every day and never noticed it. One day they had a board outside advertising 3 Tapas for 10 and boy is it worth it. Went with a friend and we got the lot. They have 6 different Tapas on the menu for that price and trust me, it’s a good feed. The food is beautiful and the service is great. Would definitely come back. Try the Ricotta doughnuts if they have them, yummy!

Call me crazy but I got off a flight from Spain and proceeded directly to Ochos, where I could *finally* sink in to some delicious authentic tapas. Note: do *not* go to Mallorca expecting delicious Spanish eats. That is all. But Ochos, oh man. So so glad the lovely Annie L brought me here, as it was one of the best meals on my European tour and reminded me of the delicious dinners I had on mainland Spain many years ago. Gambas a la plancha, patatas bravas, beef pincho… all absolutely delicious. Plus, I just love it when what I pick out from the menu coincides with what the server recommends. What really surprised me were the roasted mushrooms: as a former mushroom-hater I was a little wary but we got them at the server’s recommendation and I am *so* glad we did. I am now a mushroom convert due to these delightful fungi. The house wine was reasonably priced and the perfect compliment to the food, while the service in this tiny little spot was just grand: super friendly and helpful without hovering, the kind of guys you’d like to hang out with on a Saturday night. Whether here or over a Guinness at a bar down the street. I am most definitely a fan.

My American friend came back from her holiday in Spain, she made the mistake of going to a resort area which she had no idea about. «Everyone was German. Everyone spoke German. The hotel had playboy bunny towels. All the food was German.» To make up for her disappointment I took her here for the tapas that she had been craving. As previous reviewers have stated the food is fantastic. We had the shrimp which was seasoned in the right amount of garlic so that I could still taste the meat. Skewers of steak — perfection in texture and quality. Mushrooms and garlic, again perfect. Finally the patatas brava which are the best I have ever eaten. We both had a glass of house white with the meal. Service was friendly, fast and knowledgable. The atmosphere was lively and the music was playing at the right level. Very cute inside and I am a fan of the interior design. Bill came to € 48 including tip. My friend loved the food and found it funny that she had to wait till she got to visit me in Dublin to try great tapas. I realise that my photos of the food are neither useful nor cool but I was mid face stuffing fest when it dawned on me to take a picture… So in a way that should reinforce how good the food is.

Wow, just… wow. While I didn’t try everything on the menu, I was able to try most of it though and I have to say that I was really impressed by their offerings. You just have to try the Albondigas, they are to die for. I will warn you though, it is a bit on the pricey side. But it is a great night out with that special someone.

i went to ochos with a group of friends last weekend and i was so happy. the ambiance was great, the food was great, the service was great… it made for a perfect girl’s night out! i’m a huge fan of tapas and having eaten at a few places around town that claim to have tapas, i’ve been sorely disappointed. to many around here, patatas bravas is merely chopped up chips with mayo and ketchup slathered on top. not so at ochos. it’s also very hard to get good calamari. we had two different preparations of calamari here and they were both delightful. soft and tender in texture and the breading was as light as air. so good in fact, that you didn’t even need any sort of dip. not even lemon juice. i agree the place is a bit pricey but it does fit within the range of many similar types of restaurants in dublin, like darwin’s or porto house. my 3 friends and i had 8 small dishes plus a bottle of wine and each paid about 30 euro(including a hefty tip). not bad, and we were stuffed. i’ll be taking my husband there tonight. we’re both foodies and i can’t wait to introduce him to my latest favorite place to eat! i think the best way to enjoy ochos, though, is to go there with a small group of friends and share a bit of everything.

Ochos sprung up a few months ago on the main street in Ranelagh and immediately caught my eye. I would personally hate to be a restaurant or café in Ranelagh, there are already so many good ones everywhere it’s a lot to live up to. I mean, I’d constantly be checking my décor in the mirror, wondering if these plates made my steaks look big and putting other people’s salads down to make me feel like a man-staurant. However, Ochos need not worry on this front. Their food is good, if a little pricey, nearly a fiver for a slice of Spanish omelette can be hard on the pocket these days. Their espresso coffee, though, is absolutely out of this world, as good as you’ll find on the continent, and the place is just about as cool as it gets. They have second hand, wooden desks and chairs that, the waiter told me, were acquired from a school nearby. Complete with«Johno was here» and other predictable, but genuine, school yard graffiti, which when you see it is strangely nostalgic. It’s painted a shade of electric light blue, the hippest shade of blue at the moment, making the whole place seem impeccably clean and stylish and the scholastic theme is carried on through blackboards hanging on bare redbrick walls . So four stars for an well prepared, authentically Spanish menu and sublime coffee, but mostly for reminding you that even if you were bullied in school that it’s behind you and you’ve finally made it into the cool gang if your hip enough to eat at Ochos.
