Hobart’s is great. This is the closest thing to the comfort of having Mammy’s breakfast when you’re hungover that you can find. Service is always prompt and friendly. Such a charming, no frills place.

I haven’t been to Hobarts in YEARS. I was a massive fan back then and I’m glad to see nothing has changed(apart from the décor). Popped in out of the rain with my mam this morning for a cuppa and brunch. The place is so much more spacious now but you can still completely look directly into the kitchen. Without delay we were greeted with a really friendly staff member… unfortunately I didn’t get her name but she had very short black hair. When you think Irish charm, I see her. She was just down to earth and really nice. We both ordered a simple poached egg on toast with tea. There is such an amazing selection on the breakfast menu but I just fancied something simple. Cooked to perfection, which to be honest some places the egg is just about done with plenty of wiggle left in it but this was just right. All washed down with a lovely pot of tea with big mugs(hate all these teeny cups, one slurp and its gone). Lovely brunch, lovely staff, lovely homely set up. Just right for a rainy day… in fact perfect for any day.

Hobarts in Ranelagh is a no-frills eatery that nonetheless manages to exude charm and a friendly atmosphere. I’ll admit that when I wandered in for breakfast on a Friday morning, I was actually taking a walk and looking for bread to go home and make a little brunch. Instead, a lone man sitting in Hobart’s outdoor seating caught my attention with his leisurely cup of tea. I read the menu, was seduced, and went inside to find a seat. There are well over a dozen options for breakfast at Hobarts, and I was torn between a meat-heavy omelet and a vegetarian one. Co-owner Deborah took my order, and though hesitant to answer my question about her own preferences, she did tell me that she enjoys the vegetarian omelet with the decidedly non-veggie addition of ham. I thought that sounded perfect, and it was. What was I served? I started with a perfect little pot of tea. Next, the«vegetarian» omelet included spinach, feta, and sun-dried tomato(and my added ham), plus a side of chips(which I asked to skip, since I’m not much of a chip fan, which I know, is blasphemous, but there you go!) and a side salad. The salad had a base of mixed greens with a generous helping of mixed bell pepper, cucumber, and green/spring onion chopped into homey, palatable chunks. A nice drizzle of dressing flavored and decorated all.(The cost for all was very fair at just over 10 euros) While I was there for my brief repast, I enjoyed seeing a spectrum of Ranelagh’s diverse population come in to Hobart’s. For example, just in front of me was a fellow in a suit, and just up to my right, workers in well-used reflective vests, and a young, chic mother came though, too. I asked Deborah about the restaurant, which is currently undertaking a bit of a face-lift. She described how she and her partner, Karen, have applied their expertise and passion to their business, which has been running now for some 15 years. Karen’s background is in catering, and Deborah’s as a trained chef. Together, the realized their dream to provide plain, simple, good food at a good price to a community where they could add a friendly atmosphere. Deborah noted that they could of course do «fancy and fussy» food, but she thinks that there are already enough people doing that out in the world. It seems that Karen and Deborah have found the right niche in the center of Ranelagh, and by doing what they believe in and doing it well, they have cultivated a broad and loyal clientele. Which now includes me, too!

Thought I left a review for this place before but either I didn’t or somehow it disappeared! Was here a few months ago and got one of their specials of pancakes with maple syrup, bacon and either tea or coffee for about € 8. The café itself is a good location in ranelagh, it’s clean inside and the women who work here are friendly enough. Now I’m a big fan of sweet and salty combinations: pancakes & maple syrup with bacon, popcorn with maltesers, French fries with a milkshake etc. Subsequently I know a good maple syrup when I taste one! I was disappointed with the food due to the so called ‘maple’ syrup. Firstly, the pancakes arrived with the syrup already on it which was odd as normally when you order pancakes you get a jug of maple syrup or there’s syrup on the table & you can choose how much you want yourself. The syrup itself was definitely not maple syrup. It was like some homemade concoction that tasted like someone tried to make their own homemade syrup. It was so bad it ruined my pancakes. It’s a shame because I was here about a year before & ordered the same thing and it was lovely because it came with proper maple syrup! In short, it’s possible that they do some good food here that I’ve not tried but my bit of advice to them would be: if it’s not maple syrup you’re serving please don’t advertise it as maple syrup. It has a distinctive unmistakeable flavour and cannot be substituted.

If you’re hungover and want a big greasy fry then this is your spot. However, if you are looking for delicious food with a twist then maybe try elsewhere. It is quite packed, especially on a Sunday for brunch and it did take a while for the food to come out, and we had to wait 5 mins after that to get our toast. I didn’t like that they brought the drinks with the food as well but maybe thats just me. I had eggs benedict for 8.20 which was standard enough but tasty all the same.

Love this place right in the heart of Ranelagh. I find it hard to go anywhere else. Their coffee is great and the menu is really varied with gorgeous smoothies and a few great vegetarian options on the Breakfast menu. Very reasonably priced and a friendly and warm atmosphere. Great place for weekend Breakfast.

A really cute little breakfast place with a great sunny vibe. Had a voucher for two breakfasts my boyfriend and I checked it out. One of the rare places that actually offers more in addition to your voucher. Anything on the menu not covered by the voucher(meals over ten quid) you could get and pay the difference. Gotta love that! Also, have you noticed some nasty attitudes when you go somewhere with a voucher? Not here! The staff was wonderfully cheerful. Had the French toast and found it good, and the coffee delicious! Stayed for an extra coffee. Will be back!

I’m a big fan of a full Irish, so I absolutely adore Hobarts. They do a great fry-up including hash browns which you don’t usually get with a full Irish. I would particularly recommend the breakfast with pancakes and maple syrup– sounds a bit odd, but super-yummy. Apart from doing great breakfast, Hobarts has a nice atmosphere and very nice staff, they probably are used to hungover students coming in all the time. And best of all, Hobarts is pretty cheap for the amount and quality of food you’re getting. Only downside is, it gets quite busy and crowded but that is to be expected.

Hobart’s is the original student breakfast place. The overflow from UCD spill out into Ranelagh and soon find the cheapest place to get sausages and rashers of a morning. Midi breakfast is € 8.75 and includes sausages, rashers, beans and hash browns. You can have more or less, with pancakes or without, breakfast bagels and breakfast baps. This place really is the king of breakfasts. It’s cosy, little and studenty but you can’t go wrong here if breakfast or brunch is what you’re after. Oh, and they do lunch, but that’s just an aside!

This greasy spoon is one of the best in Dublin. It’s a little way outside of the city not far from St. Stephen’s Green. As a bit of a fitness fanatic I normally skip fried breakfasts but on this occasion I couldn’t resist the two lovely folded fluffy crepes complete with maple syrup poured across them. The breakfast came complete with hash browns and sausages. I watered the breakfast of Kings’ down with a big cup of fresh coffee. Overall the staff were a friendly bunch and the meal cost just under 10 Euros. This is definitely the way to ensure your day gets off to a good start.
