Went here on a Friday nights and really enjoyed it! It’s a small place but it has a nice ambiance. The staff were friendly and service was relatively quick. I ordered venison which was excellent — perfectly cooked and lovely flavour to the vegetables. However, portions were small, so I’d recommend getting a starter as well. It was ok valve for money. I’ll definitely go again!

I consider myself a pretty experienced steak eater, but hands down the beef in Ireland is some of the best meat I’ve ever eaten. I just got my mind blown away by this 30oz T-Bone! This place does it prober!

This was the backup plan when the place I wanted to go(The Sussex) was closed on that day. Had I known how amazingly good The Butcher Grill was, it would never be merely a backup. A bit off the beaten path, the food coming out of this tiny restaurant is stunningly good. Perhaps the best meal I’ve had in my many visits to Dublin. Sitting at the counter(we were lucky to get that; the place was packed) and observing dishes coming out of the kitchen, it was clear that steak was the winning option. On that given evening(a Sunday), the Cote de Boeuf for two was on discount(45 Euro, instead of the usual 58), so my colleague and I opted for that. Ahead of our entrée, we enjoyed a Smokey Old Fashioned, and interesting take on a classic featuring Woodford Reserve bourbon, homemade pecan bitters, fresh oak smoke, candied bacon. Along with that, we also enjoyed the Seared tuna tostados, served with avocado salsa, chipotle mayo, crispy shallot. Delicious and an excellent way to prime for the meal ahead. Served on a wood cutting board, the magnificent Cote de Boeuf came sliced and perfectly medium rare. On top were two big, crunchy onion rings and along side a serving of rich, smoky black eyed beans with bacon. From first bite to last, I couldn’t stop thinking that this was one of the best steaks of my life. Service was efficient and courteous. Décor is fairly rustic and low-key, but entirely fitting with the no-nonsense food on offer here. I will certainly be back next time in this lovely city.

Best meal I’ve had in Ireland . I had the rib eye, it was juicy and tender cooked perfectly. Glass of Portuguese red wine which went down smooth . Great staff, and ambiance.

Oh.My.God. How did it take me so long to try this place? Wait, I know how, they’re always fully booked. With good reason! This is a really small steak place. They serve meat and a fish of the day, they have delicious cocktail, and I guarantee you that you will have a delicious meal. I had the striploin steak, with caramelized onions and butter spinach. For a side, I got the mashed potato with bone marrow sauce. I could have this side for a main dish, but then the main dish was also too good. The steak was perfect for a medium, so lean and had no fat. It was heavenly. For a dessert, we decided to go for cocktails. They serve a mean old fashioned which comes with a piece of bacon in it. The drink was absolutely amazing. I would like to go back and try the teres major dish with baked bone marrow. I wanted to take that this time but decided to go with something I know I like in order to compare it with other steak places, and that was the right call.

Was in town for a couple nights and was craving a delicous carne dinner. This place is a very small but cute and warm restaurant. Very lowkey you could pass by it(like i did twice) and not realize its there! Modern and cozy! Steaks were very good and food all around. They forgot our seared tuna but it turned out the entrees were very filling! Service was great too, great place to go for some tender and juicy steak!

Wow. Amazing seared ahi tuna tostadas. And the burger was one of the best I’ve had in Europe. Cool vibe and friendly place. I will be coming back again.

I was brought here by my brother for my birthday and oh my god is was such a treat! The Cote de Boeuf is as good as everybody says it is. The meat is perfectly cooked, really tasty and the sides are great too. I wasn’t a fan of the seating… we were at a high table on really uncomfortable stools even though the restaurant was empty.(I don’t like sitting on high stools while eating but this really is personal preference). The restaurant is ideally located in Ranelagh Village with an abundance of great pubs to move on to after your meal and I would definitely go back to sample some more of the menu as the Cote de Boeuf was so big it left very little room for anything else.

My husband and I came here again recently for dinner to give the butcher grill another go. I will say, that this time instead of ordering the cote de boeuf, I got the hanger steak, and my husband ordered the american strip sirloin. Both of our steaks were VERY tasty, and in fact I think the hanger steak I had was one of the best steaks I’ve had in a long time. We again got the tostadas, which are just SOOO good. We learned from our mistake last time with the sides, and instead got the french fries and mashed potatoes with bone marrow butter. This went MUCH better with our dish than the onion rings we had before. All in all, service and food was good, but PRICEY. My husband’s steak was 44 euros for 10 ounces BEFORE we added sides. I wouldn’t say that his steak was worth 44 euros, but my hanger steak was most definitely worth every morsel he 27 euros.

This place is overpriced as you can eat in Shanahan’s for the same money and the ambience, food and service is way better there. However, they used to serve a seriously good burger but unfortunately they’ve changed the recipe so it’s not quite as stellar. The starters and cocktails can be excellent but it’s a small cramped space that I much preferred as Burritos & Blues. You won’t have a bad meal here, but it’s going to cost you.

Sublime! This place absolutely does it right. Friendly staff, intimate and clean restaurant, knowledgeable, and wonderful food. This is the best meal that I have had in Ireland, HANDSDOWN. The«smokey old fashioned» cocktail had wonderfully complex layers of flavor and was crafted perfectly, not rushed, and came with a piece of bacon that actually complimented the flavor and wasn’t there just for show. My entrée was the«Milk fed veal striploin, crispy sweetbreads, giroles, broad beans, herb gnocchi.» I didn’t know what to expect from this dish but let me tell you, I was blown away. The veal was tender and not overcooked, the sweetbreads left you wanting more and the rest of the flavors on the plate seemed to just compliment each other so nicely. Wow, what a dish. Please let me advise you that no matter how full you are from your meal, you should at least order the«Banana Fritter, salted carmel ice cream & cookie crumbs» to share. I’m running out of adjectives to explain everything, this dessert was nothing short of pure decadence. Be warned that it is very rich, but order it anyway, it’s perfect for two people to share. The Bucher Grill is a wonderful example of the direction in which Irish cuisine is headed. If you are visiting and looking for a place to eat, this is it. But if you’re a tourist, like I was, DON’T ACTLIKEANIDIOT. Don’t make substitutions and special requests, trust that they know what they are doing. Be polite, tip well, enjoy the experience, and try not to give the rest of us travelers a bad name by being ignorant.

Ok, let’s start with the good, and there’s a lot of it: Starters — 1 x Scallops &1 x Steak Tartare, very good. Cocktails — Smokey Old Fashioned is nice(but could be a bit more bourbon heavy) Dessert — Rhubarb crème brûlée, really excellent. Service — attentive and helpful without being intrusive, absolutely perfect. However, the bad — or not so much bad as mediocre. We came for the steak, ordered the Côte de Boeuf, and to be perfectly honest it was quite underwhelming. Maybe we were just unlucky with the piece of meat we got but it was quite fatty, and in terms of portion size, it wasn’t a lot of meat for two people. Tasty enough, but not worth the price. The beans/fries/onion rings are all good but it was disappointing that the steak didn’t live up to expectations. Will give it another try at some point in the future though.

Had a sunday brunch here for my birthday. It was a very good decision. The brunch menu is great. The scotch eggs were delicious with a very impressively gooey yolk and the homemade brown sauce was a lovely touch. My steak and eggs were cooked to perfection and my dining partner had the Duck Confit Hash which she raved about. The Banana fritter with cookie dust and ice cream was a great way to end a really good meal. They also boast the best bloody mary in town, though like everywhere else they are not cheap at all at a price over 10E. They are made with Grey Goose though. The frosted ring with salt and chili was a touch of genius. My partner also enjoyed an Espresso Martini. They also have a good selection of beers. The staff were friendly and helpful despite being very busy. The décor is also very nice with a lovely bar, tiled walls which give a hint of old butcher shop and big solid wood table tops. I’ll have to come back for the Cote de Boeuf sometime.

Best cut of meat I have ever tasted. Period. The Côte de Boeuf was amazing! Service was 5 stars, there was some issue with our table when we arrived so we had to wait 20 minutes and for that we got upgraded on the wine(for the price of a cheaper one) which was a nice touch. Prices are not cheap, but that is expected in a city like Dublin(expensive). Great experience, out of tourist attractions(you won’t find many tourists here).

This place was great. Really great, but not five star great in my opinion. My husband took me here as a surprise 1yr anniversary dinner. To start I had the tuna tostados and my husband had the oxtail. Honestly, I was really underwhelmed by the tuna. I read rave reviews about it, but it just didn’t meet my high expectations. However, the oxtail may have been the most delicious thing I have ever tasted in my whole life. The meat has a reputation for being tough, but wow it was tender and soft. Just fantastic. As a main, we shared a Cote de Beouf of course. The meat was good. It was tasty. It did not blow me away however, and I was again disappointed. I think next time I will just go for a steak. One thing that really stands out for me is the service. Such a teeny little restaurant, seats about 16people max. The lady at the front desk, was incredibly friendly. Honestly, I expected the place to be a little stuffy, considering it’s quite spendy and trendy. But no, this woman was absolutely wonderful. She managed to keep all the patrons very happy. Excellent service. I’d recommend checking this place out, definitely. Excellent location for a very special date.

First, let me apologize for the not-so-profound review. I should really go into detail and explain why this place deserves one my rare five star ratings. But I can’t. It’s been a while since I’ve been there but all I remember is –seriously– the best steak I have ever had. Cooked to perfection — juicy, tasty, naturally flavored, in one word: fantastic. And apparently so fantastic that even after eating at 100+ steakhouses after, I still think this was the best. What I like about it is that they really focus on the meat. You can order side dishes but the meat is really the main part here. And you should really appreciate it. Don’t ruin it with some gravy on the side. Be prepared to pay a lot for your steak(I believe the most expensive one was for 50 Euro) but you’ll pay for a steak you’ll never forget. Awesome food, great service, cute restaurant. This place is ON.

Wow. To start, I had the seared tuna tostados, avocado & chili mayonnaise. Sweet mother. I don’t think I have ever eaten anything so flavoursome. Apparently they took this off the menu a while back and there was such a backlash with customers, they were forced to put it back on. I can totally see why. The tuna melts in your mouth, and contrasts completely with the little bits of crispy onion on top, then the coolness of the guac goes perfect with the heat off the radish on top, and I think a little bit of chili in there too. I shared the Côte de Boeuf for main and wow. Was it worth waiting for. Cooked to perfection — juicy and tender inside and a crisp flavoursome crust, it was perfect. Stick a bit of that on your fork, with some onion rings, and these beans, these beans that are cooked with smokey bacon for long periods, well, you have a much fabled perfect bite right there. As other reviewers have mentioned before, yes the staff really do know where their beef is from, what it was fed, and if it had bedtime stories read to it. ;-)(Reminded me of the ‘chicken scene’ in Portlandia — here it is if you haven’t seen it — replace ‘chicken’ with ‘beef’, and you’ve got the first 3 minutes of our meal last night to a T. ) Just while I’m talking about the staff, I would say that we had two very different experiences in the one night. Our main waitress was extremely curt, perhaps a little disinterested, and did not flash a smile the whole time we were there. It was rather off-putting and if the food wasn’t so good, I would be docking serious points for having to part with my hard earned cash to such a surly lady who did not want to be there, or it seemed, us to be there either. There was another waitress floating around who was the opposite — she radiated happiness and nothing seemed like too much effort for her. It may have been an off-day for the afor-mentioned too-cool-for-schooler, but I actually didn’t get that feeling. If I’m paying potentially up to 45 euro for a steak, I better get a free smile with it!

Well I stopped using Unilocal a while ago(I know, I know, sacrilege!) but after such an amazing time at the Butcher Grill I just had to come back on and do a little ranting and raving. It was for our anniversary dinner so after having a read at the great reviews on here decided to give this place a go! I went to make a booking and all they had was the bar — and I remembered one review saying not to turn it down, they were right! DON’T! The staff were the most accommodating and genuinely nice people I have met when out dining! Grainne who was working behind the bar could not have been more helpful when helping us to decide what to go for and giving a full explanation of all the dishes. And I really want to just thank her for making our night plain awesome! The starters were beautiful, I couldn’t get enough of the little toast that came with my soup and my partner had the sticky ribs which were amazing. For the main we ordered the steak for two(cote de beouf if I have that right) and well, it REALLY was worth the wait! My partner is a big meat eater and constantly complains about meat in restaurants to me but I really had to eat quick to make sure I got a taste cause I could barely keep up with him, he was eating it so quickly! I really can’t compliment the steak enough, I have been dreaming about it ever since! He wanted to order a dessert, and so ordered the yoghurt ice cream(this was delicious!) with strawberries & honeycomb, we were already having a brilliant night but Grainne had heard us talking about our anniversary in passing to each other and came out with a little candle in the dessert and a plate with«happy anniversary» written in chocolate. I nearly cried(I’m a softy) but its just those nice little touches that will now make me come back again, and again… and again!

Gosh, I’m gonna gush. If you can’t take it, get out ma kitchen. It’s flowing bovine stars… The Butcher Grill was, hands down forks up, one of the best meals I’ve had in months. My husband works in Dublin most weeks and had been here with a group of colleagues a few weeks ago. He’s a carnivore with a refined palate — and a huge fan. Thankfully we made it back this past Saturday, reserved a seat for 2 at the bar(recommended for a great experience!), enjoyed some fantastic cocktails, ate a lot of meat, and returned home infinitely happy. I started with an Aviation(quite perfect) and he with a Bloody Mary. I followed with a Negroni(a bit strong for me!) and he switched to a dirty martini(he likes them very strong I guess!) — then beer. The cocktail list is wonderfully curated, and each created with care. At 12 euros each, they run a little steep but each drop is pretty much drunken gold. The wine list also looks lovely — the Bovine(house) bottles line the wall, hugging the walls with booze. Indeed! Starters: warm bread with olive oil(complimentary, simple yet perfect), the squid fricasse(arguably the best thing we ate!) and the tuna tostadas with fresh guacamole. The starters on their own were so delightful, I thought that perhaps the mains would not measure up. Not the case, my friends. Not the case… did you guess? ;) We split the CoteduBoeuf(meant for 2 people), which is one huge slab of steak, onion rings and spicy black eyed beans. We added on a side of the greens for ruffage and good measure. It’s 28 euros/pp — but on Mondays/Tuesdays it just runs 20/pp — a steal! The steak was good, but I ended up wishing I’d gone for the newly minted, Irish-grown Wagyu Beef on offer just to see what it was like. Room for more? Not really but we opted for tiramisu and a cappuccino. GLUTTONY! The t-su was standard, but certainly didn’t disappoint. Did I need it? No. Ha! The real star is the service. Our barman — didn’t catch his name — not only served as DJ(great tunes that didn’t interfere, but complemented the vibe), but created the cocktails, took the orders, coordinated the kitchen runs, and basically didn’t stop moving/working for the 2 hours we sat there. He answered questions, showed true passion — perhaps he was the owner? I don’t know. If he wasn’t, then that owner needs to pay him more. I was blown away at how great the service was. It’s certainly not cheap, but is worth every bit. Some notes: *The restaurant is quite small, so especially on weekends — make a reservation. *Don’t be put off by seats at the bar(if they are available). The service is stellar and it still felt private. Almost like a Chef’s Table! Make a reservation. Today.
