Lovely spot with great Guinness, friendly staff and Dublin locals at the bar. There are lots of old posters and memorabilia to look at and it is always nice and quiet.

This pub is one of my favourites, nothing really special about it other than being the first one I visited when first arriving to Dublin. The atmosphere can be quiet and relaxed some nights and then pure fun on karaōke night, they also have live music. The food is pretty decent price-value: the chicken wings and soup and sandwich combo are perfect to get you ready to fight the mean Irish winter.

Had walked past O’Connells hundreds of times and never thought to go in until a friend asked to meet there. Don’t know what it is about the shop front but it’s a lot nicer inside. Bright, airy space with cheerful green and red colour scheme. Good Guinness, friendly staff(insisted on dropping drinks down to table) and a chilled-out atmosphere. Perfect for lazy Sunday old-man pub vibes.

We were walking by and just went in. The local is huge and it has very decent music in there. Good variety of beers and an inexpensive tasty soup + sandwich deal.

One of the my favourite places in the area for a couple of pints. Great value and service. The two lads running the place are really sound. Lovely spot to have a pint on your own or with a group. It’s one of those places you can enjoy good company without anyone annoying you. A great starting point & place to meet if you plan on boozing in the area. A cold pint & a packet of bacon fries and you can do no wrong.

Come for a pint of Irish microbrew and a steak and Guinness pie. You will not regret it!

The definition of an old man pub right here. I must say I was a little disappointed, yeah the vibes are chilled, and yeah the place is refreshingly unpretentious, but I was under the impression that I was going to get cheap drinks, and € 5.70 for a glass of house wine is not cheap. But as I said, O’Connells had a nice friendly atmosphere. It’s all about a quiet few pints and a catch up with friends here.

My favourite new local. I’ve lived in the area for more than ten years and I only visited O Connells for the first time last month. I went in after reading reviews on Unilocal, which I wish I had read sooner. I’ve been twice now and it’s now a firm favourite of mine. The décor of the front and interior pleases me a lot. A traditional Irish Pub if there ever was one. Wood panelling painting red, it’d warm the soul as good as a hot whiskey would. The clientele is a mixture of regular locals that prop up the bar and young hip professional of the hipster ilk. All sharing this space happily. You could while away a few hours in here conversing with a group of friends, but I could also see this as a place you could sit in alone with a paper or good book on a Saturday afternoon, supping a pint.

This is what we were looking for the whole time in Dublin. It is a charming pub, and thankfully there didn’t seem like any tourists there(except us, although we tried our best to blend in ;-) The décor was awesome and the Beamish on tap tasted great. Wish I was back there right now!

Wow, just wow. Reasonable drinks? Friendly staff? Eclectic clientele? Close to the city? Traditional vibe? Hipster free? All in one place, you say? Ladies and gents, I think we have a winner for best little bar in dublin! Not my local, but sure to be my regular :)

So, my father-in-law and brother-in-law were up on Saturday and we said we’d go somewhere local for a few quiet ones when they got back into town after they’d been out at Leopardstown. Went to a coupld of places but they just weren’t what we were looking for at the time — horses for courses. As we headed towards town, we were passing O’Connell’s — a place I thought might be a touch too quiet. Not so! Inside there was a nice mix of people and a good buzz. It had that je né sais quoi. We were standing to one side about halfway down when the barman came over and told us some people were leaving so there was a table for us to sit at it we wanted. Top man! He outdid himself then by taking an order, telling me to sit down and he’d bring over the drinks and change. A true gent and a great barman. The Guinness was going down nicely, I’m told. A real gem of a place, this. A proper pub with a top-class barman and a nice atmosphere.

Here you’ll get a great pint, warm atmosphere and an escape from the overcrowded, charmless pubs and clubs that are taking over this city. A dying breed, especially in Dublin, O’Connells continues to embrace its Irishness and keep it simple.

Equality exists! In this battered island there is one place a woman is not penalised for drinking! € 4 for a pint of Guinness. € 2 for a glass of Guinness(usually a glass works out about a third in price of a pint so it makes money sense to get a pint even if you would rather a glass like me.) Beautiful pub with Jack B Yeats style paintings of characters on the walls. Run by a husband and wife team which is so rare these days. Both immaculately dressed and the pub is spotless with an excellent mix of old and young. The man of the house reminded me a lot of James Joyce and the Guinness is superb. Absolutely my regular now.

Really nice local pub. Drinks are substantially cheaper than nearby places and nice staff. Décor is definitely in the old-man-pub camp and it isn’t he sort of place you’d bring a tourist, but definitely the sort of place you’d be happy to have as your local.

Just when I thought O’Connels couldn’t get any better, they decided to top themselves in overall awesomeness. The Guinness pints have dropped down to € 4! Yay!
