Wanted to highlight one complaint. Says it opens at 7.30. Have called literally 6 times between 8 and 8.30am and NEVER open. Mentioned it twice in the place and just get the answer they open at 8 or have popped out. 6 times being closed however makes me think this is just poor service. Use the place a lot but considering changing to a place with reliable opening times. Satisfied with it other than this point.

In my last review I complained about a visit. I didn’t have to wait long for an answer from Shirley’s owner expressing concern about the situation and apologising. I really felt like my feedback was valued and that the customers are important for this place’s owner. I really appreciate that.:-)

I use Shirley’s for self-service. I have a washing machine in my flat, but sometimes, I prefer to use the heavy-duty washers to get my kitchen linens extra clean again, or to wash my blankets and winter coat. Because I don’t have a dryer, I also depend on Shirley’s when the weather doesn’t cooperate for line-drying or when I need things dried quickly. As a bonus, they offer discounts for students and AOPs(check out the photo of their price list that I’ll post here). Forgot to bring your soap(as I did last time)? They have it. Service is quick. In the USA, I’m used to coin-operated machines, but I think I prefer paying for service rendered. With the coin machines, I often paid for a machine and poured in my cleaning supplies only to find out that the washer wasn’t working. Not a worry at Shirley’s.

I’m back living in Ranelagh after a number of years away and was delighted to see Shirley’s was still going. Memories of student days in Rathmines and not having a proper washing machine, this time around I use it for all my washing & ironing as I haven’t time to do it myself. It’s really good value for money and open til late every night which means I’m not rushing after work pick my laundry up. 5stars for service and price!

This place does look pretty scary even when you walk in because pretty much the whole of Rathmines uses it on Saturday and Sunday. The men who work there are very friendly and helpful even when doing self-service, and the washers and dryers are massive enough for clothes plus a sleeping bag! The price was right for me too.

When I first moved to Dublin, my flat lacked the luxury of a washing machine. As Shirley’s was just around the corner, I stuffed my dirty clothes in a big black bag, handed them over to the friendly girl always busy folding shirts and sweaters and picked them up in a few hours, smelling all nice and clean. Using a laundrette on a weekly basis is a bit of a pre-recession indulgence, but as I was a student then, spending all my days in the library(and got a nice student discount) I convinced myself that Shirley’s service would be my reward. If I had the financial capacity today, I would go there every laundry day, pick up my groceries at Aldi across the street and grab a bite at Jo’s next door while I waited for my bag of clean and folded laundry.

A laundrette that looks filthy from the outside does not entice one into bringing their clothes to to be cleaned. Shirley’s is in desperate need of a paint job. But the prices are very competitive(20% discount for students and OAPs), and I love places that name their business after the proprietor’s first name. It gives the business itself a character. With Shirley’s you can really imagine a lovely salt-of-the-earth lady with hands all pink from scrubbing your clothes so clean.
