Stopped off for a cuppa coffee and cake each with the beau during the week. The place was nicely decked out as a café, with a sweets cart displaying mostly Irish produced chocolate boxes and individual truffles for sale. Not sure they get much business out of it, or purely as a display piece? Cakes and coffees were average, if not a bit overpriced with the bill coming to € 15. Much prefer the Bakehouse just down the road!

I was in need of coffee and a place to read so I came here. I was also attracted by the deal coffee+muffin 3.95 Not exactly I quiet place to read but it was sunny outside(and no tables left) I could take my time and read a lot. The americano I ordered was surprisingly good — the large size is really large. The chocolate muffin was actually delicious. I got extra chocolate on the top of it. Even better. They are supposed to be a chocolate shop but they do not have many chocolates on sale… I saw a few on the shelves, but only a few. In any case, this place is def worth a visit.

Best hot chocolate in Dublin and they use fresh whipped cream… what more good a girl ask for. Service is always attentive in here. Lots of different chocolate brands on offer as well.

Nice location on the water or at least it could be if it weren’t for all the traffic going past. And they do have outdoor seating for the rare times the weather is nice enough to use it and assuming you don’t mind all the traffic. Chai and mocha was good not great but appropriate for my star rating.

Love the hot chocolate here but was so disappointed when I went back recently. The hot chocolate was cold & the service appalling. The girl behind the counter made a snide comment about me to her colleague & laughed. Won’t be going back any time soon

Very tiny shop. Coffees, teas, hot chocolate, only a few seats. Nice guy behind counter. Powdered hot chocolate, mediocre coffee. They need to step this up.

Delicious hot chocolate, but how could it not be when they add so many things to it! I also wouldn’t REALLY call it ‘hot’ chocolate, since its warm enough to warm you up(but not your hands) but also cool enough for you to actually drink all of it in one gulp without burning yourself(you will want to drink it all in one gulp). I got some of the truffles/mini chocolate as well as a gift and he wrapped it up very nice! It was also not that expensive and the price per piece goes down the more you get! You can only use your card on purchases over 10 euro. Next time I go back I want to try a different hot chocolate!

I am chocoholic, hear me roar. Actually, I’m not a proper chocolate fan. I love the sweet fatty relatively cocoa-free«chocolate» that I was raised with, and while a stint in continental Europe did sophistify(it IS a word, ‘kay!) my tastebuds somewhat, happiness to me is still a nice bar of Cadbury’s. So having laid all my cards out here, take this review as you may. Myself and Mister Awkward decided to try somewhere new for a cuppa, a sitdown, and a chat. The Sweetest Thing has been opened for several months and I just haven’t had a chance to pop in and try it properly; also the window display is very Cadbury’s-oriented, which doesn’t really exude come-hither vibes, even to a Cadbury’s fan like me. After all, I can get the same probably for cheaper in a supermarket if it’s Cadbury’s I’m after. Anyway it seemed fairer to actually go into the café and look at their menu and even try something before passing judgement, so along we trotted. It’s a milkshake bar as well as a chocolate café, something which is not evident from the outside. I decided to stick with what I came in to try, and asked for The Sweetest Thing’s signature hot chocolate, with marshmallows, cream and flake. Mister Awkward tried the chocolate espresso, which is melted Belgian hot chocolate, with a shot of hazelnut syrup. I really liked the hot chocolate. There really isn’t a whole lot you can do with hot chocolate, but it was very tasty and looked very pretty. Mister Awkward’s chocolate espresso was definitely something different, pure and intense and far too good not to be shared, small though it was. Any more would have been a waste! The décor is suitably chocolate oriented, with old-fashioned Cadbury’s signs everywhere. There are individual chocolates for sale in a glass cabinet beside the counter, Bailey’s chocolate products, lots of Cadbury’s bars, some Green & Blacks and so on. I kind of expected large selections of Lindt and other chocolate brands too but Cadbury’s seems to be the dominant brand. There was a tray of broken sample chocolates by the till, which was a nice surprise –the chocolate florentine bit I had was amazing. It’s a nice café, nice for tea, a sandwich, hot chocolate, a milkshake. Not quite what I expected, but I’ll more than likely be back.
