I was in the Vaults for a sort of mini music festival called Give it Socks. The venue looks quite nice and the rooms were great for the layout of the festival, one dj in each room. I have previously experienced the buy one get one free drinks but that offer was not on for the festival, a good offer though for the normal opening days. The one thing that dragged this place right down was the toilets. They are totally disgraceful. Maybe one out of around 8 cubicles had a lock on it and none had toilet paper. Call me crazy but these are sort of the fundamentals of any bathroom. Not nice, I won’t be back.

The Vaults is a funny club. It used to be famous for R&B music and has had the likes of Trevor Nelson DJing here from time to time. It was good. Then it closed down for some reason(rumours of damp — it is a vault afterall) and now it’s back open. Since reopening, I just need to tell you one thing. It’s 2 for 1 on all drinks. That’s right. You order one drink, you get another one free. It’s that simple.

The Vaults is located under Connolly Station, and as such looks quite like Crawdaddy, all sloping exposed stone arches. The nightclub is probably at some disadvantage in that it does not have an entrance on Amiens St; you have to go into the IFSC itself in order to get in. The nightclub itself is very pleasing to the eye, very stylish furnishing, one room consists of a load of cool little booths, it’s good. Being one of the only nightclubs in the area, The Vaults is expensive enough to get into, and the drink prices are ludicrous. Music-wise, The Vaults used to play a lot of trance, but lately has been seeking to become more of a techno venue. This is where the nightclub falls down. Although it has changed the music very successfully to techno, the clientele has remained very much a trance crowd. For trance crowd, read: a whole load of skangers in soccer jersey’s who like listening to the strains of Scooter. And there’s feck all women in the place, either. If it weren’t for all the knacks, it would be a really good club.
