Fabulous little wine and beer shop in Rathgar. The owners are so knowledgeable and friendly. I can ask them about any wine and they are willing to help. The prices are moderate, you will pay the same price here as anywhere else. I really like their selection. I just tried the Donegal blonde beer from here & it is very tasty. I try to stop by whenever I am in the area.

The Vintry’s a really nice little wine shop tucked into a row of gourmet food shops that Rathgar is lucky to have all to itself. It’s a tiny speck of a store, haphazardly stocked, but manned by a very friendly crew. If, by some astounding coincidence of inexperience and serious head injury, you know less about wine than me, then this is a really handy place if you need bluff a little. It’s a little pricey, but the wino in your life will definitely appreciate it.

The Vintry is a lovely little wine shop tucked into the pretty fabric of Rathgar village. I was heading up that direction to *a well known off license* to buy a bottle of plonk for my French buddie, and was going to go with a reasonably priced generic Côtes du Rhôné and hope it didn’t taste like balsamic vinegar(I’m no Miles from Sideways, that dude knows his Merlot from his… well…other wines). Anyways, I get this little burning ball of fear when I walk into a fancy little shop like this because(inevitably) some well turned-out shop person is going to ask the dreaded ‘can I help you there’ question. This, to most people, would be quite inoffensive, but when you already know very little about wine, it can be daunting, believe me! I told him vague details about my mate’s preference, gave him a price range, and popped out of the shop for 5 mins to get something. When I came back the guy had lined up about 6 or 7 bottles of red, and gave me some good advice on which one to go for — which also ended up being the most reasonably priced. The pièce de résistance(ahem, sorry, I’m on a french vibe now, please forgive me) was how nicely the bottle was wrapped(pretty red bow and all…), such a lovely touch! Turns out the wine was lovely(I did get to sample, just to make sure it was ok of course!).

The Vintry is one of the most charming shops I’ve ever been to. There’s just something classically old world about it. They’ve got distressed wood shelving units and walling that makes you feel like you’ve just wondered into a country home somewhere. They also have saw wood and the floor, which really just takes you away to another place. They’re also really passionate about their wine and they’ve got the awards to prove it! This is a great place to come if you know absolutely nothing about wines. The staff is full of knowledge and they’re willing to take you through until you find the perfect wine for your occasion.

Ah, you always remember your first don’t you? A time of excitement and thrills, a time when everything was fresh and new, you thought those days would last for ever, you thought it didn’t get any better than this… And in this case I was right, The Vintry was my first wine shop, the first place that showed me that there was such an astonishing variety of wines and grapes and if you could afford it they would happily guide you on that journey. It was here for example I discovered there was such a thing as white port. Granted, I thought(and still do) that it tasted appalling but that’s not the point, I got to try it! The shop is well stocked with a good selection of wines, probably veering towards the French neck of the woods but I’ll forgive them for that. They also sell cigars and have a very respectable selection of bourbons including my personal fav Woodford Reserve. Tremendous.
