Well, things have changed since 2011 because this place is TOTES overrun with tourists. However, Dunloe Lodge was still pretty fun. While I am not a fan of traditional Irish music per se, I can be OK with it sometimes and my parents wanted to hear some. So as we wandered around we heard music coming out of this place so we went in. We managed to score some seats near the back of the room which was great since it wasn’t right up against the guys playing the music. The tunes were some traditional Irish and some American country like Johnny Cash. It was ok. We had a bigger table and only 3 people so we let others use our extra chairs. So we met other Americans… from Washington State and from Iowa or Idaho or something. Not an Irish person in sight except for the people working there. But hey, what are you going to do? The bathroom… sooo I came out and was convinced that the person that went in before me had smoked a big olé doobie.(Must have been from Colorado?) BUT when I went back later it still smelled that way and I figured it was a very strong air freshener with a STRONG pine/pot smell. I mean, it stung my eyes and burned my nose hairs. Holy hell, they need to tone that down. Or maybe someone really did smoke pot in there. What do I know? Overall a good place to have some pints and listen to some music. Not really my type of tunes, but fun for the parents. I do like booze and beer though so it is A-OK.

Sunday evening, live music and the place was hopping! Friendly crowd. Great Irish music. On this evening there was a three piece electric band; guitar, bass and accordion. Good times. It was crowded, but the bar staff was attentive. Didn’t eat on this occasion. Just enjoyed the music, crowd and a Guinness.

It was here that i discovered that some Kerryman are impossible to understand. I believe the gentleman said the«eff» bomb, «me mates», and«aye» and then rest of it was presumably English. Anyhoo. This pub was fine. No one bothered me. There weren’t a lot of tourist in it around 8pm. The guys were playing darts and watching football on the tv. I got the feeling that I was one of the few women that ever walked into that bar. They had a chalk sign that said traditional music every night. That didn’t’ happen while i was there. If you’re a tourist in Killarney, don’t go here as this might be the only place that hasn’t been over run by tourist.
