This was the first place we ate at after arriving in Ireland from hours of flying. I had the beef stew that was served with bread and mashed potatoes. It was pretty good, but the atmosphere with live Irish music and soccer games was what won me over. Bar was also pretty sweet!

We were with a tour group for an evening meal. We had a set menu to choose from. The food and drinks were okay, not a must try. The seating was cramped, little elbow room for four women and not enough room for four men. One in our party is 6’5″ and the seating and space was nearly impossible for him. The best thing about this pub was the musicians. Talented and entertaining. The dancers were lacking talent and the heart to perform.

I’ve visited the Jarveys Rest a few times these last few months. If you want decent food and a great selection of local beers and ciders, then this place is for you. I particularly like to have a bowl of soup and then tuck into a mains of spicy chicken wings(sharing of course). HOWEVER, if you’re in a rush, tired after a bit of activity and perhaps a little irritable after being eaten alive by the summer midges, this place is definitely NOT for you. Service is spectacularly slow and not particularly polite. I got shrugged off three times today trying to place an order before eventually giving up and leaving. Excuses ranged from«not my area, place your order at the bar», to «we don’t serve that far away»(I was on a table around the side), to «I can’t take your order now I’m busy, so I’ll be outside to you soon». 15minutes later I got visited by the waiter at which point I shoo’d him away. I’m sure there are chicken wings elsewhere from now on…

We were just there for beer and the live music. It was packed. Service was good. Seems like a fun place.

We were in search of a late dinner with our inpatient 9-year old in tow and Jarvey’s Rest came recommended because of the live trad music. The staff were quite accommodating, squeezing us in even though they were very busy with a tour bus crowd. The music was just what we were looking for and the crowd was happy and having a blast. The food was good but not superb. We’re it not for the good music and Irish dancing we enjoyed while eating, I would say the food was overpriced. Also given the crowd was overwhelmingly NOT Irish, the evening didn’t meet the standard for authenticity. It was just another evening geared toward the tourist crowd. Can’t complain too much since we’re tourists ourselves. Overall, I would recommend Jarvey’s Rest especially if there is music involved.

Here with a tour group. Very good food with great entertainment — music and Irish dancing. Much fun. With 80 people on 2 buses they still did a really nice job.

Food was well presented and the starters were delicious but the main courses were poor. We had soup of the day and Brie ciabatta to start. Both were very nice. I had the burger and my wife had fish and chips. Both our portions of chips were obviously re-heats and were bordering on inedible they were so hard. The bun on my burger was toasted and cold as though it had been sitting around on a counter for a while. I didn’t touch my onion rings as they also looked like re-heats and appeared burnt. Verdict: Must try harder.

Just stopped in for a quick lunch and a craft beer. a little overpriced at over € 6 but definitely worth trying one of the local beers. i ordered a portion of the wings. the price was very low so i couldn’t believe the size of the massive portion when it came out. definitely worth a visit

We stayed in the attached Muckross Park Hotel, and were advised to arrive a little early for dinner because they had a trad music show starting at 8pm. We arrived around 700pm, and most tables were filled with a tour-bus crowd. There was one four-top table open by the restrooms, or seats at the bar. We sat at the bar and had a good view of the musicians and dancers. The rest of the bar seats filled up before the show. We had pints of cider and ordered food. My husband had the fish and chips(better than average), and I had the lamb and rosemary pie. I definitely won — mine was delicious! My pie was a ceramic ramekin of savory lamb, carrots, potatoes, and gravy, topped with a bronze, flaky puff-pastry round, speared with a sprig of fresh rosemary. A small chunk of bread accompanied it(largely unnecessary), plus a small bowl of roasted root vegetables. By the time we finished, it was time to swivel our chairs around and listen to the music. Three dancers accompanied the musicians for a few numbers. They also went out into the crowd to show off their steps.

The Applebee’s of Ireland. Fish and chips were run of the mill. Lamb stew looked better than it tasted. Has craft brews in bottles only. Some taps were out, probably due to the wedding reception. Food was served out of sync, which was probably our fault for splitting checks in a country where it is not customary. If you are American and miss your neighborhood Applebee’s, go here. If you like to eat Irish food or have an adventurous palate, avoid at all costs.

My daughter and I ate here this evening. My daughters gnocchi was bland, but my Sheperds Pie was tasty and a very generous portion… enough for two. Thought the price of 6 euros for my daughters cider was high, considering my Smithwick’s was 2.50 euro. Attentive staff and might eat here again since it is the closest restaurant/pub to our B&B.

My wife and I were staying in the area during our trip and the owner of our B&B recommended this place. I am so happy the did because it was great. For an appetizer we shared the salad with maple syrup dressing. It came with 2 strips of bacon and fried goat cheese. I thought the dressing would make it too sweet but it was just right. The bacon was cooked just right and the fried goat cheese added just enough salt. For dinner, we shared the chicken pie. It was so good. I would have loved a side a brown bread with it, but ah well. The service was nice and attentive. We didn’t order drinks or dessert, so our meal was only $ 22 euros, not bad for the quality of food. A definite must try whenever in Killarney. Technically, this place is in Muckross.

One of Ireland’s finest pubs. Food is down to earth and tasty. Beer selection is more than adequate. Service is first rate. Most impressive, though, is the décor.

Our first dinner was here because we stayed at the Muckross Hotel and Spa and the restaurant was located neat the entrance to the hotel parking lot. My wife and I tried the ribs which were so delicious and the meat just fell off the bone. The place reminded me of an old Irish pub. Of course I had my pint of Guinness with my meal. We tried it again and I had the sizzling steak with mushrooms. It was so good and I just love mushrooms. The picture doesn’t look too appetizing, but it was wonderful.
