I’ve visited the restaurant several times both as Tenors and GGs and have been let down each time. Twice my group all ordered steaks and were left waiting over an hour and a fifteen minutes without apology. I’ve previously gotten dishes there where the meat was extremely poor quality and mainly fat/grizzle. My last visit was this week. The restaurant was very quiet, pretty much empty apart from one or two couples. We were given bread rolls that were too hard to eat and completely stale. I ordered a diet coke. It was ‘flat’ tasting with no carbonated bubbles and unlike diet coke when I mentioned this to the owner she went to replace it. She came back, placed it before me with a scowl stating that there was nothing wrong with the previous one, that it was so fizzy it had splashed all over her top when she poured it away to replace it(her top was completely dry). The replacement still tasted awful, ‘flat’ and nothing like diet coke but I was too intimidated to mention it to her after the way she reacted. I got lasagne for my main with chips and a side salad. We waited around 45 minutes for our food despite the restaurant being pretty much empty. The lasagne was covered in a greasy orange slick of oil. The chips were similarly overcooked and greasy, I couldn’t eat them. The owner/waitress spent all her time sitting at a table in the corner on her phone. When it came to the paying the bill, I was still charged for the diet coke… must be desperate times! If you’re looking for somewhere to eat in Naas there are definitely far superior establishments than GGs. If you do decide to go be prepared for a long wait, poor service and greasy food with poor quality ingredients.

So Tenors is gone and in its place is GG’s, but it’s still run by the same people. The menu is coeliac friendly and other than slow service(an hour between starter and mains to wait was a bit excessive, so much so we got a second bottle of wine!) I can’t fault it too much. The prices have been popped up a little, but it’s still a great value meal. And they still have the burger(with gf bun) as an option on the menu for us gluten free peoples! I had hake on a bed of chickpeas and it was delicious! My other half ordered the chicken with clonakilty black pudding, but to make it gluten free they had to take away the pudding, which they never told him when he was ordering. It wasn’t a big deal though! I’ll definitely be back.

What Tenors is gone? Yes and GG’s has taken it’s place. To be honest like us you probably won’t even notice you are in a new restaurant as the staff, décor and menus haven been kept the same. No longer a tenner for the main meals, the prices have crept up a little but it’s still great value. Try the starter of potted prawn and crab gratin, I pretty much come here just for this. Unfortunately the chicken and chorizio lasagne sounded interesting but came out with mostly sauce like soup and had to be eaten with a spoon! Soup Lasagne aside this place is good for casual dining and always seems to be busy. So a bonus for people like me who hate to whisper in an empty restaurant.
