the food is superb. Its fresh, tasty and prompt service…

WHYOHWHY did I not check Unilocal before eating here?! I was in a rush in between clients at work, and just popped into the first place I saw — Diep at home. I wanted something a bit healthier, that didn’t have rice or noodles in it, so I ordered their Gai Xai Phai salad. The spices in the dressing of the salad were so overwhelming that I couldn’t even finish it. Not because it was spicy, it’s just they used WAY to much of the spices in the dish. The only reason I didn’t give this place one star, was because the girl working behind the counter was really nice. If you’re hungry, I recommend going somewhere else.

I think Diep is one of the best, quickest take away food available in Dublin!

It has been well over a year since I last tried Diep. Some history: I frequented Diep when they had a Ranelagh eat-in branch. The place was always crammed and understandably so: their Thai-stlye food was exceptional. The opening of the take-away was inevitable and warmly welcomed, and while it started off well the quality of food did noticably slide. After another lacklustre meal and some pretty nasty treatment by staff, I decided to give it a rest, and ended up relying on rivals Saba in Rathmines instead. Looking for variety, we returned to Diep this week to see how they stood up, and not very well was the response. While prices aren’t bad I find it hard to justify paying a few Euro over a typical chinese takeaway when the taste isn’t vastly different. We got the spring rolls for starters, which were admittedly excellent. But the mains were bland. Singapore noodles failed to pack a punch in terms of flavour, and the Siem Reap dish with prawns tasted like watery soy sauce. Not a terrible experience, but unless the location was convenient I won’t be rushing back.

Was coming here a lot after work. Its on my way home and the food isnt too spicy;-) Sorry Annie– I dont like spiiiicy food. Palate not refined enough or numbed enough. I usually get the yellow curry and the triangle pastry starter. The food is tasty enough. The reason it gets a 3 is that 19 euro for a starter main is a bit pricey and you definitely need the two. But most of all the longish haired guy who works behind the counter taking orders and is probably a manager is very rude to his delivery guys. I was in there one night when he was doing the cash up. Nice to be nice and hes a bit of a git.

The moment of acceptance has come… I must truly be diminishing my taste buds with all manner of hedonistic endeavours, it’s all too horrifying. I ordered a green curry. The pretty menu that came through my door had two fiery chillies beside it to denote that it was serious Thai stuff and therefore I am hardcore. No it was not hot. What a week of food in Dublin. I look for pasta I don’t get pasta. I look for hot I don’t get hot. Is it punishment for betraying my potato, bacon and cabbage lineage? The chicken was tough, obvious that it had been simmering for too long. The sauce was rich and tasty. I could not find any bamboo shoots and for the little money I spent on it I could of went to the store and made my own hot curry. I give up.

They boast ‘Restaurant quality food for collection and delivery’. Eh, maybe they need to re-think this slogan! If I had been given this food in a restaurant, I would never eat there again. Expensive, greasy, slow delivery service, cold food on arrival 1 hour 25 mins after it was ordered. At least had the food been of good quality it would not have been so bad. 18.95 for starter and main course to be delivered, might as well have eaten in the restaurant. Don’t waste your money on this place, order from your usual reliable take-away.

Was very disappointed with Diep at Home in Ranelagh. Thai is one of the only Asian foods that Dublin can usually deliver on. Diep at Home was a sad anomaly. Had a soup that arrived half full and lukewarm, oversweet and thick. Same goes for the mains. Each one was almost cold, only half full(tiny portions), overpriced and very, very sweet. Anyone who has even had moderately good Thai would be disappointed, but a three year old might be delighted. Deliver took an hour and a half and cost 4.50. A hundred thumbs down.

One of my friends is a Coeliac and whenever we are getting a take away we always order from Diep at home because it does a really good range of gluten free foods. Unfortunately this is not great for me because i am not a huge fan of this place.(i always just give in to her because anyone who cannot eat bread and cakes and biscuits deserves to get what they want otherwise!) I like the white cartons and things that the food comes in, none of those foil boxes or plastic containers like other take aways it makes you feel like you are getting something healthier! don’t ask me why because i don’t know! anyway like other said i have always found some of their dishes to be quite oily and the vegetables are hard to find in all the sauce that you get and if you do find a vegetable you like its usually hiding in among a load of bok choi or whatever that Thai cabbage stuff is, not great anyway! the noodles are nice though and i liked the rice that i have gottne in the past. i will still get food from here but i wont be over joyed about it!

Remember this Basho haiku? By lonely roads this lonely poet marches into autumn dusk. Well, that was me after a week of country air and the space to sleep, read, plan and dream. Feeling a little deflated after the charms of Christmas(and knowing I was returning to work today), I was a solitary and wistful character wandering around Ranelagh, desperately seeking solace and inspiration in a fistful of thai take-away yumminess. Thank goodness for Diep at Home. The place was warm and welcoming as the mists settled in for the night, making the place pitch black. My order took around ten minutes and i was only one luas stop from home. The salt and pepper squid was delectably fresh, while the Tom Yam Goong had the right mix of hot and sour tastiness. A delicious combination — it fed my soul and left me feeling both angelic and sated. Poetry in a bowl.

Starving after a day spent out in the cold and wind yesterday, we ordered from Diep and were thrilled to bits when the doorbell rang just 20 minutes later. Getting a takeaway delivered this fast, especially on a Friday evening, is something short of a miracle. But sadly, our glee ended there. The rice was first to be opened. A solid block of white mush it was, the grains indistinguishable from one another. Next were the two curries, one lamb massaman and one duck red curry. Both had an inch of oil floating on the top, which we had to pour off. We were off to a very bad start. The duck was nice, not too fatty, and the red curry sauce was pleasant enough, though lacking the punch that I crave from thai food. The vegetables that were supposed to be in it consisted of one green bean, a few bamboo shoots and one single slice of red chilli. Disappointing. The first bite of the massaman was lovely, but on the second we realised that the lamb was actually quite dry, and the sauce far too salty. Too much tamarind, we concluded. The portions are half the size(and if you ask me, half the quality) of Saba to Go, but we couldn’t even finish them. It was one of the worst take aways I’ve had in a long time, and a complete waste of € 25.

One of our favourite take away places. Food is always good. Prices are a little more expensive than«regular» takeaway places, but it’s well worth it. One word of warning, delivery can take a long time at the weekend when they are busy.

It kills me to say this… really, as I am a HUGE fan of Diep and Diep LeShaker, but Diep at home– a great idea, a fantastic idea even, left me sad and depressed and hungry. We were tired, Diep across the road was packed out and I was too tired and cranky to go anywhere else, so, where bettter to go than Diep at home?! We got the food, ran for the hills and within 20 mins was tucking into the meal i had been dreaming about… fantasising about even… and it was like I had tried to make it myself, but a shadow of the excellent food I am used to from Diep. I am more than willing to entertain the idea that we caught them on a bad day but we have never tried it again!

Although I live close to Saba @ home in Rathmines, I’ll still check out Diep the odd time for a change. As Jo said, the food is always great. Never experienced her problems with the staff though. The restaurant in Ranelagh opened this place as they were being inundated with orders, so coping with the demand. Massaman curry and Khao San always worth a look in my book.

I have not received such terrible customer service in a long time. We visited last night and the lady taking orders was incredibly rude and impatient. I know they were about to close the kitchen, and taking noodle orders can’t exactly be the best job in the world, but come on! A smile wouldn’t hurt anyone. If it wasn’t for the amazing food at Diep I would never set foot in that place again. The takeaways are to die for! Mine was a Phad Thai Tofu and my friend had Beef Chilli and Sweet Basil. They come in those cute noodle boxes and aren’t exactly cheap(around 11 euro for a takeaway main) but they are delicisioso!
