As offies go, this one is pretty top notch really! As people have mentioned before, yes they have a great craft beer and wine selection, but the real winner here is the service and staff. I called to get two gifts delivered to two separate locations around town, it was all a bit last minute and a bit awkward, but these guys couldn’t have been nicer. They helped me pick some really nice wine over the phone, packaged it up, wrote a lovely card, and arranged all delivery. They advised me really well about what I could get within my budget, and were really just a dream to work with. All in all, top notch lads!

I don’t get to go to Deveney’s very often, it’s the opposite side of the city for me but I do enjoy the odd trip when I find myself over in Dundrum. The staff, especially Ruth are very helpful and knowledgeable, especially about beer and their range is very impressive. It’s also a family owned business so supporting them versus a large supermarket chain makes you feel good about your purchase and that’s the best thing about shopping, feeling good about your purchase.

I love coming in here if I’m looking for something a bit different. Niamh is usually there to give sound advice and not push the seriously priced plonk on you. I feel comfortable going in and having a little chat and explore the shelves for something exotic. The great plus is that I’m keeping it local. Looking forward to the wine tasting sessions.

Are you a hobo? Come into some spare change recently? Have an alcoholism problem you need to feed? Could do worse than get in to Deveney’s! Great selection of beers etc. and there always seems to be some offer or other on some unusual beer or other. Plus there is always a cheery smile from the cash register robot, which is always nice.

Nice little Off Licence. I love exploring off licence’s to see what nice little treats I may come upon. I picked up some Cabbies ginger beer here. I have gotten it elsewhere before but not many places sell it and I certainly have never found a pub in Ireland that sells it. It is a favourite off mine — try it and see. Nice staff there also.

OK, first off: I know the proprietor of this business, she’s a friend of my sisters… so I automatically remove a star to balance out my review ;) Niamh Deveney is a sweet heart. This is coming from someone who vaguely knows her and as a customer. As usual when I pop in here we end up chatting for a little bit, but when other people need serving Niamh immediate gives them her full attention and doesn’t stay talking to me(I hate it when the person serving you is engrossed in a conversation with someone else). On this occasion I was able to observe the banter she had with one of her regulars. And help find stock for another punter. She also helped advise on which wine was what for another. She had a word for everyone and they all left happy after receiving good customer service. While this would not be the most convenient off licence to where I live, I do end up here regularly enough. And I have been here with questions. And requests to order certain products in. I also used their service of delivery when we needed a decent thank you present of two posh bottles of wine. Oh and the other staff are great too BTW :)

And this another reason why you should support local. The booze hound that I am needed a tin of Guinness aprés our February Elite Event in Copan, just a tin to please my soul ;) First port of call at 9:59pm was the Tesco offy as it was glaringly obvious opposite the venue… I knocked at the door well that’s a lie… Think of the last scene in Mrs Robinson and I’m Dustin. Except I am holding my phone shouting… «I have one minute left… ONEMINUTE…» The lovely fella behind the till says to me, «I know love but the system is timed to shut at this time.» A passerby seeing my plight ushered me to Deveneys… A place that is not locked into some huge sprawling chain of timed lock ins. Great stop, no not because it obeyed the 9:59pm time or that it gave me an extra few minutes past the 10pm time… But it has a great selection. Lovely homely welcome from the girl at the till. No bright neon lights. We had a bit of natter, I never felt rushed and I felt welcomed and the vino selection is very impressive. Hallelujah I got my tin of the black stuff!

The place is tiny but well-stocked with beers from around the world! Everything from California to Kenya is represented in the fridges at Deveney’s. They had a 4-for-10 deal on with a couple of UK craft beers when I visited. The lady behind the counter knew a lot about their suppliers and vowed to look into a US brewery they had one beer from when I expressed interest. I didn’t see the out of date fridge, so I’ll have to go back and take a look– as soon as I finish the stash from my last trip…

If a person could love an offy without being told they have some sort of problem, then I would freely admit that I’m in love with Deveney’s. It’s got a lot more character than the rest of the off licences in Rathmines and the staff actually know something about the drink they sell, unlike the chains where there’s a good chance you know more than the shop attendant. MOSTIMPORTANTLY: The last time I checked they deliver your booze to your door. Ok it might not make much sense if you’re only buying a bottle or two, but if you’re looking to supply enough booze for a party, or as I did 10 American friends with drinking problems over to celebrate Paddy’s day then this is a life saver! Just be careful though b/c I rang looking for kegs and they told me they don’t sell cakes! Alas they don’t sell kegs either! Bottoms up!

OK, so an off-licence is an off licence, they sell booze… That’s probably not an exact copy of the entry in the oxford English dictionary but you get the idea! Deveneys is a particularly good one with a healthy selection of nice wines, craft beers and a nice selection of my own particular tipple … sour mash bourbon. The shop feels old and there is that slight feeling of occasion when going in to get erm… essential provisions!

Solid boozer for those emergency trips to the bottlo. Deveneys has the usual range of spirits, wines and alcho-pops, and even boasts a 1 euro section for the recently out-of-date(which is usually filled with Budweiser!) The shop is decked out in some highly attractive black and yellow tones(ooh yeah!) and the guy at the counter doesn’t even blink an eyelid if you see fit to purchase the unnameable… Buckfast!(It wasn’t for me, I swear!) So if you want chilled out, old-fashioned, non-judgmental booze service, shop here. It’s a damn sight more interesting than Tesco’s across the road, that’s for sure!
