Let’s be honest, Sunnyside and Sunnyside Too are Bedford institutions. They rank up there with the Chickenburger in terms of authentic Bedford eats. I only started eating at Sunnyside Too in the last few years when I visited my parents. They go at least once a weekend. I like going at least once when I am visiting Bedford because it has a great family-style atmosphere, amazing service and quality homestyle food. I always try something different when I eat at Sunnyside Too. Sure, you can go totally bonkers with the high fat, high sugar, high calorie and low nutrition options on the menu. You can also find lots of good, heart healthy options. I discovered a few years back that any egg dish you order can be made with egg whites instead of whole eggs, at no extra charge. That’s a nice touch. We stopped in on a busy Saturday morning, but didn’t have to wait for a table. The dining area was packed with two main groups of diners — parents with their young children, and seniors. Lots of seniors, in large groups. I was craving an authentic Maritime breakfast on the last day of our trip and that could only mean one thing would fit the bill — the salt cod fish cakes. For those not familiar with the traditional Maritime way of life, fish can be a part of any meal, including breakfast. My mouth watered at the prospect of having salt cod fish cakes, done the proper way with potato and local seasoning. They did not disappoint! Pan fried, not deep fried, the dense and flavourful cakes were made with fresh and flaky salt cod, potatoes and seasonings including chives. Served with sweet and tangy chow relish, homemade baked beans, homestyle fries and whole wheat toast, it was a championship breakfast from start to finish. All of the flavours and textures worked perfectly. It’s not fancy eating, it’s just good down home eating. My wife ordered an egg white omelette chock full of veggies including big chunks of peppers, broccoli and onion. She was very happy with the flavour and freshness of her omelette. Served with homestyle fries and toast, it was more than enough to get us fueled for the day. Can’t say enough about the service — super friendly and attentive, always quick with a water or coffee refill, despite the busy dining room. All with a smile too. Our food also arrived quickly, despite the menu indicating that the fish cakes take a little longer to prepare(but are worth the wait). All menu items were reasonably priced as well. We’ll definitely be back on our next trip to Bedford!

My friend was eager to try this place for his birthday so we checked it out over the weekend. There wasn’t too much of an atmosphere inside and the place seemed a bit out-of-date, but I didn’t want to judge the place too much until I tried their food. There was a great deal of variety on the menu, and, having had a plethora of chicken and seafood the last few days, I decided to try the spaghetti while my friend had the fish and chips. The hostess and server were quite friendly and the food arrived in about 15 – 20 minutes. It wasn’t too bad, nothing overly special, adequate I guess would be the best word to describe the meal in summation. The prices were reasonable as my meal(and beverage) was just under $ 15.00. My friend didn’t mind his food either, but it was a rather uneventful visit overall; I would liken the experience to watching a soccer game and the match ended up 0 – 0 with no shots on goal. I’ve heard Sunnyside is not a bad place to have breakfast, so we may go back and try the food at that particular point in the day, but I am uncertain as to whether I’ll come back for another meal over the supper hour.

I didn’t hate it here or anything, but didn’t obviously like it that much, and would only go back if someone asked me to. When I walked in the front door on an overcast September Sunday morning around 10am, I didn’t realize that there was a separate Sunnyside versus Sunnyside Too restaurant. So I randomly walked to the right side ‘Too’ restaurant, waiting to be seated, but immediately asked the hostess what the difference is between the two. She said there is no difference, so I took her word for it. From what I could see through the glass on the other side, they did look the same. Makes one wonder what is the purpose of separating the two… odd, but interesting. The server was basic and friendly enough. I tried the SPINACH, MUSHROOMANDTOMATOBENEDICT(11.99 Sautéed spinach and mushrooms in cream on a toasted English muffin with sliced tomatoes, poached eggs all smothered with hollandaise. Served with homefries) because it fit my craving and vegetarian needs. The hollandaise was blah without much flavor, but edible. Nothing wrong with the eggs, home fries, etc. Free coffee top-ups, as you’d expect when paying 2.29 per cup. The atmosphere overwall was very«family» restauranty, with simple wooden tables, grandparent type artwork, carpet, plain, but clean.

I’ve only had this once but it was such a devastating assault on my gastrointestinal system I cannot fathom giving them another chance.

Food was good but prices are quite high for this type of restaurant. Wait time to eat was also slow.

Went for brunch last Sunday. I had liked it before but the service was so slow that we missed the boat we had planned to catch. We waited half an hour to 40 min for coffee that was not great. She did not take our order for another 20 min. In total we were 1.5 hours for breakfast. People came in ordered after U.S. And we’re gone before we got our food. We ordered a side of bacon while we waited but it came after our meals. Even when we got the food our bacon was cold. I will not be going back.

Was pretty disappointed by this place. Beyond dirty bathrooms, dated furniture and the cups/utensils weren’t clean. Went on a Sunday for brunch @ 2pm– omelette was ok but the side(hash browns) were cold. Coffee was $ 3/cup and it was burnt. Won’t be returning

I can’t really give this place a favourable rating I’m afraid. Although the service is second to none and their coffee is to die for, their vegan options are very limited. Basically a salad. The big thing that bugged me most though is the absence of a bike rack or anything remotely accessible to lock a bike up to. There are plenty of available spots to put a bike rack but they simply choose not to.

This is our local go-to for diner food and all-day breakfast. Great pancakes, great BLT, great hot turkey sandwiches. Reasonable prices and service is fast and friendly. I think the Sunnyside Too’s menu is a bit more varied than the Sunnyside next door, with things like Greek wraps and quesadillas.

It’s a diner. Typical diner food. $ 11+ a plate. Atmosphere is very open and very bright. Filled with seniors. The pulled pork was tasty but came with coleslaw on the bottom of the bum which was odd considering they gave me a dish of coleslaw too. Nothing extraordinary about anyone’s dishes. But it was good for diner food.

Previously the Smitty’s of Bedford, I have continued to frequent this location even after the change. The menu remains relatively the same as Smitty’s, however the things that are missing are only the Smitty’s brand products. I may not be keen on the name(I think they could have named it something better rather then clever really. It seems to be just confusing) but I love the food and service here. Some of the waitresses and cooks have been here for years. I don’t mean a 5 or 8 years, I am leaning more towards multiple decades. Maybe that’s why it’s so darned efficient and yummy! It’s not often that I’ve ever received poor service or a poorly made meal here. The rarity itself is outweighed by every other amazing experience! When I’m craving a good ol’ fashioned breakfast or something divinely greasy(such as the Manhandler… if you don’t know what it is, go try it! It’s HEAVEN… add hollindase and ketchup and it’s even better then heaven. possible? YES!) I ALWAYS head here. A must stop in the town known as the traditional stopping place.
