Disclaimer: I have not been here in years and things may have changed. I was thrilled when this place opened. I worked a few stores away and am pretty much obsessed with all things spa so I could not wait to get in there. The hair services were really pricey. I never knew what I’d be paying until I got to the register(used to this though) but I was always good about leaving generous tips and I usually bought whatever product they suggested to me. I went there for hair services, numerous facials, massages and manicures, pedicures and spa packages and was anywhere from satisfied to thrilled when I left. I had been going here on an almost monthly basis for a few years. And then the worst haircut ever happened. I was the first appointment of the day and I wanted red colour, a long bob and long side bangs. The bangs were easy to explain because my stylist had them herself so I was able to say that I wanted the same ones. Wow. I should have known that there would be a problem when she made comments about wanting to go home and play video games and how I was her only client that day. I left having spent close to four hundred dollars after tax and tip and was a bit put out that my hair was still damp in places. I thought that the cut looked off but that maybe it was just styled badly and that I could fix it. My roommate took one look at me and began singing Penny Lane. Yup. I had thick, blunt cut bangs that were too short to do anything with instead of the long, swoopy ones I had asked for. No amount of styling could fix them and I had to walk around looking like a cross between one of the Beetles and a Lego person until they grew out. But it got worse. My roommate, a hair student herself, began looking at the overall cut. It was really jagged and uneven. This was later on at night so I called the next morning and asked if I could come in to fix everything. They could barely fit me in and when I walked out a second time I was so thankful to have been able to at least make the cut even. There was obviously nothing we could do about the horrible bangs. I was at a party that night and one of my guy friends asked me whether I was trying one of those asymmetrical cuts. I asked what he meant and he and his wife began tracing the line of what was supposed to be a straight bob across my upper back. It was worse. Untrained guys could see from across the room that it was uneven. Noooooo! I emailed the salon asking them to please contact me. They never did. I was upset because I had literally spent thousands here over the years, I was always a great tipper and I was a very easygoing client. This was my first complaint and I was upset but I was still polite about it. They really don’t seem to value repeat business there I guess. I’ll be frank. I’m still insulted that after years of being a loyal customer and a really nice one at that they could not even be bothered to say anything. I think this place is great as long as you’re a happy customer but I think they tend to get an attitude when someone isn’t happy. My advice is to be picky here and do not pay or leave until your hair is how you want it.

I needed a salon close to home to go get my hair done on the day of my sister in laws wedding. when I arrived the girl took my name and directed me to a couch in the back where I didn’t have to wait long before Naomi my stylist came to get me. she was friendly and listened to what I wanted for my hair which was not overly specific as I’m growing my hair out and wanted to keep as much of the length as possible while still getting a nice shape to my hair. She was friendly and extremely nice and she did a wonderful job with my hair. Needless to say the style lasted all day and still looked good at 2AM when I got home after the party. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Dave cuts long hair really well. I’ve been going to him for a while. Also he always gets my streaks right. Love him!

**Update: Chelsey has moved to Beauty Legere — I will totally be going to see her there when I’m in Vancouver next!** Upgrading stars, because if you go see Chelsey this place is full stop five stars. I figure my three and five star ratings will go on ahead and even things out. I needed my hairs did for New Years, no way I was ringing in a decade with dirty blonde roots. It was time for a change… I walked in as I usually doing, general idea of what I wanted at best, but armed with a hair magazine with flags of things I «like but don’t like» and things I just plain hated. I pointed at three different shades… «I like this color, but not the shade, I like this one but it’s too abbrassive, I like this but I hate it… for the hair cut, umm, I hate fringe but I want it but I want it to go away quickly, and uhhh… I hate my hair so just make it look good.» Have I mentioned I LOVE a stylist who can appreciate artistic freedom while listening to what I don’t want, but want, know what I mean? Color first, cut next, Chelsea worked her friggen magic and chatted with me the whole time — I also *heart* chatty stylists since I bore easiy. Result: I walked out with a shock of copper red hair and a kick ass new cut with fringe(bangs) which i can wear or hide. Deadly! Bonus props — she didn’t price gouge me and was smart enough to give me her card(I incessantly forget names upon hearing them). Will definately go back to Eterna to see Chelsea specifically.
