Love some of their hearty whole grain breads and the option to get it sliced extra thin. Good scones too! Can get busy in there. I wish their staff learned how to be upbeat and friendly.

Oh man. Poor Calgary. You got so much money. So poor bread and pastries place. Pay yourself a trip to France or Montréal. Bring back some pastries chefs and now you’ll be able to call a croissant a croissant.

COBS. Classy Oven Bread. That’s not what it stands for, but it is some amazing deliciousness in my mouth that makes me want to throw all the other bread I have out. The ladies here are super sweet, with smiles that get wider as you add a million different things to your order, because there are a million different delectables you want to shove in to your gaping maw. You don’t go to Cobs for just one loaf of bread. Maybe that’s what you tell yourself in the car. Maybe it’s what you repeat to yourself, like a mantra as you cross the parking lot. Maybe it’s what you say in your head as you wait in the line that snakes in the narrow entry space of the store. Then your turn comes up and out of your mouth tumbles a catalogued list of their entire display. I never liked sliced bread that wasn’t toasted first. Until I bought a multigrain loaf from Cobs. I ate three slices in the car on my way home. The guy in the car next to me at the stop light probably thought I looked like Homer Simpson when he went to hell and was forced to eat donuts for all eternity.

Who doesnt love a bakery? I do. Bread is my weakness, so this is either the most biased, or perhaps unbiased review I have written. I lived in New Zealand for many years, and we had COBS there, but was called Bakers Delight(the North American version goes under the cobs name). I remembered it fondly and had to go into cobs today. The bakery is located in a little mall that is very busy. The bakery itself is small, but the shelves and counters are packed with delicious fresh baked goods. Every inch is full of stuff. They have a large variety of loaves(or blocks, they call them here) of breads that the slice to the size you want. They also have scones, rolls, savory breads, baguettes, and sweet items too. I had a cinnamon roll. I asked them today what the icing was, and she told me cream cheese, which i dont like. She kindly offerred to sprinkle it with icing sugar. Nice of her. The staff here were efficient and pleasant, considering how busy they were. The lineup was out the door, but they were cheerful and happy. The prices for breads are excellent, a fresh loaf of multigrain bread is about 4 bucks. As the bread is fresh, it wont last as long as supermarket preservative laden breads. Chances are it wont last long at home in your cupboard anyways, its delicious. Great service, good prices, delicious products. Cobs is a winner. Check out one of the 3 locations in Calgary. Get there early in the morning if possible to avoid lineups. Cobs is great.

Hello! Great bakery on Elbow Drive! This place totally surprised me, a regular looking bakery on the outside but as I peeked through the window I saw baked products worthy of me going into the store. The loaves are displayed on these attractive wooden shelves and standing in rows. You can choose an array of hearty breads between 2 to 5 dollars plus you also get your choice of the way you want it sliced, thickly or thinly. As impressive as the hearty bread was the pastries, there were scones and fruit bars, muffins, and Danishes. I settled on a double chocolate scone; have you ever heard of such a thing and at $ 1.50? Folks, this is a nice sized scone with chunks of chocolate and the scone is in chocolate so it is the lightness of the scone but with huge chocolate surprises in every bite. It was amazing! There aren’t many locations of Cob Bread so if you live near one, you are lucky! And if you drive near one it is your duty to at least pay them a visit. The most impressive thing about this bakery is that their guarantee is of freshly baked products everyday because whatever is left over is donated to shelters and feeding homeless organizations. Wow 5 stars just for that!
