I haven’t been to John B in years so I was hoping for good eats as was my previous experiences. After biking all day, I came in with 5 other people to sit and enjoy the rest of a beautiful spring day. It was also happy hour so bonus! Our waitress was very friendly and patient while we tried to decide what to eat. She even brought a lot of water as we probably looked wilted. The décor hasn’t changed much which was fine as it has a nice neighbourhood vibe. The food on the other hand was a major disappointment. We got appys to share amongst us: potato skins were dry and lacked taste and the potato was very mealy; cajun wings were dry and not too spicy; calamari was not crispy and too oily; the pickle slid right off panko crust and the panko subsequently crumbled to the plate leaving me with a few breadcrumbs to lick off my fingers; jalapeño poppers were pretty standard fare(nothing special); some weird deep fried cheese that were mostly crushed under the deep fried zucchini. If it wasn’t for the super cold $ 5 Strongbow this would be less than 2-stars.

The curb appeal leaves a lot to be desired, but the inside is modern, renovated, clean and stylish. Great pub to watch sports on one of the many tv’s and lots of food and beverage deals throughout the week. The Sunday brunch buffet falls flat for the $ 17 fee. By noon the food is stale and cold. The buffet offers some Asian dishes which were bland. There’s a good variety of mediocre desserts. Overall mediocre buffet.

Finally a place with a good selection of beer, decent prices, and great food! Sure most of the food tastes frozen, but the sauces are quite good, and you’re not paying an arm and a leg. Staff are very friendly, and service is always a decent pace. Even during football games, we were getting our wings quicker than at other big chain restaurants, and they were great!(A little on the smaller side, but not gonna complain considering it was $ 15 for a pitcher and wings on a Sunday)

I came here for a lunch dinner. Our waitress was friendly but her body kept pulling away every time we had a question. She was always in a rush are acted as though there was a fire in the kitchen. She was friendly enough, however, there was no real connection. Maybe it was the lunch rush but she had or so it seemed a happy bone in her body. The place is huge with lots of seats. Older demographic which means music is at a respectable sociable volume. Portions were very generous and vet reasonably priced. Taco salad was $ 13 and huge. Menu stated that the salad was to be housed in taco bowl but it just came in regular bowl with 3 small taco chips. The actual taste was good. Service was prompt.

Never had a bad meal here, and the servers have always been great. The dry garlic chicken wings currently have a hold on me… My only complaint is that it’s not closer to my house! Great selection of beers, and a really good buffet on Sundays.

Very good beer selection for a pub outside of Vancouver. Service is always top notch. Food, well… It’s just okay. My main beef is the burgers always seem to have a bun that is stale. Has happened to me and 2 others I’ve been with 4 times now. One has to resort to asking for it tasted or it’s next to inedible. A kitchen off its game.

Spacious pub, lots of TV’s everywhere if you’re after a game. If you’re there with friends, you can find a nice table on their cozy patio in the Summer. Good selection of meals, all yummy! ! From chicken wings, to poutine, salads, burgers.. to have with a cold pint of beer, a cocktail, wine or just ice tea. They occasionally host fundraisers, which is nice to be able to help out. Plenty of parking space on this strip mall. Worth checking them out!

The only thing better than the food was the service. Power was out and whole city was a fucking nightmare. Restaurant was packed and our server Stephanie was clearly in the weeds but still found time to make sure we had a fantastic meal. I’m serious, that girls smile could light up Carnegie Hall. She’s the Michael Jordan of the British Columbia service industry.

The John B is a nice neighborhood pub. It is clean, busy, and the menu has a large selection of items to choose from. The demographic ranges from early twenties to people my parents’ age. The portions of their food are sizeable, so I usually order something off the appetizer menu. I had the best time here on St Patricks Day with friends. They had green beer, irish themed drinks, and gave out free green Jello shots. I have also come here for the twelve days of Christmas where you are given a number from one to twelve and the table that sings their number out of the song the loudest(ie: two turtle doves, etc.) wins free drinks. Its nice that they have fun events like that. It is also a great place to watch the hockey game but be sure to arrive early on those nights as it fills up fast! It isn’t my absolute favourite place to go but I don’t mind occasionally dropping by. Check it out if you’re around.

Delicious food at a cost that is very reasonable. I recommend the Mexican chicken wrap, or chop chop salad or something off their monthly features. I have eaten here numerous times and have always been satisfied with the food quality. It is pub food, but yummy! They have cajun mayo that comes with their fries thats to die for! Drink specials are amazing something different for every day of the week, we had what they call«clucks and suds– 15 $ for a pitcher and wings– not to shabby! Waitresses are nice friendly and attentive, very quick service. We will defiantly come back for more. AND they have the best blue cheese sauce in the whole world. Home made and to DIE for!

The thing about the John B is that it’s totally a suburban pub, which means it turns a bit club-y on weekends, but it has nothing bad going against it. The food is decent — somewhat Asian inspired, they have lots of beers on tap and a really substantial weekend brunch buffet. The décor is a bit dated, and the noise really carries when it gets busy, making it kind of hard to carry on a conversation, but it’s a good place to go for an weeknight evening of food, beer and hang-outs. On the weekends they usually have a DJ&/or bands so it is much more club-like after about 8 pm. Having said that — it’s a great place to watch a bunch of middle-aged suburbanites boogie on a Saturday night.

Wow. What a surprise. Normally a huge fan of John B, but something’s seriously wrong here. Its filthy, we noticed that from the minute we walked in. And waited. And waited some more. And got our own menus. And waited some more. Finally we had to admit defeat. We just weren’t going to get served here today. So now we are spending our hard earned dollars down the street at Original Joes. And the service here is fantastic so far! Thanks John B for helping us find a good lunch spot!

This place has a pretty extensive menu. Food is ok. Pub food so you can’t expect all that much. I’ve been here twice and both times the service has been pretty horrible.

Here in Coquitlam this has become my go-to pub. The fare is delicious, the waitresses friendly, and the live entertainment definitely couldn’t hurt too. And what’s also nice is the type of crowd this place attracts. You see co-workers and other professionals gather together for after-work drinks, and overall yeah… it feels like the right place to be for the mid 30 — 40’s crowd. Being able to just walk here(for me) is nice too. A few too many drinks? No problem. I’ll just stumble home and be at my front door in 3 minutes. No need to drive, no need to hail down a cab… fantastic.

I don’t usually venture out to Coquitlam, but if I do again, I’ll stop in at John B Pub. It’s a typical looking pub, but the place was thoroughly clean including the washrooms. There’s plenty of tables and the seating is spacious. When I read Johnson C’s review, I was so excited that they served Fruli. Unfortunately, they didn’t have it when I visited so the Russell Angry Scotch Ale was my replacement. Although Fruli and Russell Angry Scotch Ale are entirely 2 different beers, they are both SOGOOD! I shared some mussels cooked in beer and tomato sauce as well as the poutine. Both were surprisingly delicious. There were plenty of mussels in my dish and they were a good size. I couldn’t stop dipping my bread in the beer and tomato sauce as well. The fries, gravy and cheese curds in the poutine were piping hot so it was hard to stop eating even though I was full. I had a great experience at John B Pub.

For a regular bar in the city, this would closer to a 3-star. For a bar in Coquitlam — and with competitors like Rhino’s and Foggy Dew in the area, this is damned near 5-stars. The bar is pretty low for bars in the suburbs — you’re usually stuck with choosing from Molson and shitty imports like Heineken and Stella. No matter what they say, Alexander Keith’s is *NOT* an IPA in my book. But — John B’s? I did not expect to see Elysian Immortal IPA on tap. They also had Fruli, Russell Angry Scotch and Blue Buck(these are acceptable choices in my beer snob book). Whether by the pint or by the pitcher, the beer is cheap. The food wasn’t bad and inexpensive. Staff is cool as well. I came by here on a random Thursday night and the DJ was playing hip-hop. Like… good hip-hop… not wedding DJ’s idea of hip-hop. The second surprise of the night. Oddly enough, I wanted to check out the manicure joint across the street — I just wanted to see who runs/goes to a place named ‘Hip Hop Nails’. There are a lot of sports on the TV that I’m usually not so keen on — but I dig circular bars and John B’s has a big one. Open until 1AM on weekdays(12:30AM last call). Overall, if you are in Coquitlam and looking for a bar that doesn’t suck, John B’s is the joint to go. Hell, if this place was close to my place — I might make this my go-to bar. Well done, John B… whoever the fuck you are.

I used to come here often when I worked close by in Coquitlam but stopped after I started working in downtown. That was around 2 years ago. More recently, my boyfriend moved to this neighbourhood so we decided to stop by and watch a hockey game here. There are definitely alot of older folks who frequent this place and it truly is a Neighbourhood pub. Its very laid back and the staff are friendly. Décor-wise, this place could probably use a face lift, as the furniture is kind of old. There is a small dance floor, a stage for live bands, and a few big screen tvs. They offer a massive menu and have all sorts of items ranging from Vietnamese Phở noodles, to Coq au Bin, to Guinness Pie. When I came here for lunch in the past, I usually got their salads which came in a large portion and I remember them being quite good. They have a decent selection of salads here. Tonight I tried their steamed mussels and their chicken and prawn pad thai. I thought the mussels were mediocre, they either were not fresh or were over done. I couldn’t tell. The pad thai was alright… my boyfriend really liked it and i thought it was okay, probably due to the fact that it was very peanutty and I am not a huge fan of nuts. I must say, the pieces of chicken in it was grilled to perfection though. Our friend ordered a cannelloni dish and I had a bite… it was pretty good. For dessert, I tried their mint chocolate cheesecake, which surprisingly was very good! I’m usually not a huge fan of chocolate cakes as I find them too rich and sweet, but this was perfect, with an Oreo cookie crust, a minty cheesecake filling, and topped off with just the right amount of chocolate ganache. I probably won’t be coming back for a while, unless it was for their appy special(offered from 2pm-5pm and 9:30pm-11pm). The vibe and the atmosphere is not for me.
