Went there for my wife’s 50th. Had a Entertainment coupon and informed the waitress upon entry. According to the coupon you get one entre free up to $ 16.00 when you order one for more value. We ordered 3 entres from the a la carte menu, plus an appetizer and an extra bowl of rice. When the food came the servings were huge and the food was fairly good. As we had ordered more food than the three of us could consume we asked the waitress to pack it for us. It was at this point the evening went downhill. The Manager/Owner got angry at the waitress for allowing us to pack the food. She was adamant that since we used a coupon we should not pack our left overs. After some argument She relented but then proceeded only reduced the bill to the cost of the appetizer not the lowest priced entre as per coupon. Not wanting to ruin the evening further we just paid and walked out.

Time for chimek! Korean fried chicken and beer^^/ We wanted to try boom beer, but it was closed. So… Unilocal it and found this place in the neighborhood. Fried chicken we got was pretty good. their chicken was boneless though. so less taste:(We prefer bone in for the reason.

Hadn’t had Korean meal for so long, this place fulfilled my craving for Korean food very well. It’s a casual feeling restaurant with a lot of great choices on the menu. Servers were very friendly. Music and music videos are actually in sync here lol. The food here is seriously good. Personal preference: I would loved fancier side dishes. I love potatoes and seaweed :)

This place is a gem here in Coquitlam. Now I know it doesn’t look like much on the outside. It looks kinda a wooden shack which was nailed together, and small… …until you go inside. Then all of a sudden the place just opens up. A friendly host/waitress took our lunch orders of soft tofu + seafood soup and bulbogi beef and rice. Together these items came under $ 20. The beef with onion was delicious, the tofu soup heaped with tons of tofu, beef and seafood, was quite a bit more content than soup itself. Seems to be quite an incredible deal. The side mini-appy dishes I’ve had far better elsewhere, but the highlight of the meal was truly the lunch combos(as it should be, you could argue). So you need to come here, if you haven’t already. Don’t mind what it looks like on the outside. Because after all? It’s what inside that counts. Sorry for the cliché.

Food was awesome and the service was really good. We didn’t know what to order so our waitress recommended some of their dishes. The owner even came out to check up on us and ask how we liked everything! I would highly recommend coming here.

I like the rice pancake most! With sweet and chili sauce and crispy outside, it’s really an awesome dish!!! Definitely recommend this dish. For the seafood pancake personal feels it’s too thick so inside of the cake is soft, if this can be thin pancake it will be fantastic!

My first rule of Unilocal Club is: if peeps like Kenneth N. and John P. give a place 5 stars then I am going to pop in post-haste. I agree that it is worth the($ 2) additional charge to get both the soya & sweet chilli sauce deep fried chicken. Our table hotly debated which was the superior flavour among the two ;) I genuinely enjoyed the rice cakes and next time would get the ½ order as they are better fresh than as a midnight snack. Whereas, the grilled-whole-buttered Squid didn’t wow me in the restaurant but blew my mind as left-overs. Go figure?! Just thinking about the sizzling stone bowl puts me in a pleasant taste trance… The presentation of everything is elegant. Servers were patient and good-natured, dealing with our questions. The take-out containers are conveniently placed on a shelf outside the kitchen which was handy for packing food up; by that time the joint was jumping.

Listen up, I don’t give out 5-stars according to my charts. But when you’re drooling over something, like their chicken mega-nuggets, that pretty well sums it all. Known for either their soya or sweet chili sauce, it’s a toss up, depending on your mood. Was flopping back and forth, but guaranteed that you’re going to love both, lightly sprinkled with sesame seed too. amazing texture, lightly crispy battered, but super tender inside. It’s worth paying the extra buck for the ‘half and half’, and normally I’d detest such a policy; really, does it cost ‘more’ to make it? ok, i get it, they gotta make a buck… Seafood pancake also good, though I can’t say it’s a must-order, pretty well you can get this anywhere for comparable taste quality. Lots of green onions, and a tad too thick. lots of squid. And that hotpot soup, incredible as well, a bit on the sweet side but totally made for those cold nights. Cool, lounge-like atmosphere with K-pop music action on a projector, and funny that kids are welcome too. too bad they don’t offer an online ordering website like Moa Box which offers a similar style of chicken, just a notch below. Glad these guys don’t deliver too, I’d go broke. friendly service. great for groups.

I came here with my wife for Valentines day as we wanted to try something a more local. I looked up reviews around the area and Pocha Korea Bistro had some good reviews. I always drove by it when I had to go up Blue Mountain and it always looked a little bit off but the reviews say otherwise. Going in, it had quite a lot of space, very open and very friendly staff. We were seated right away as there were a few tables opened but overall it was pretty busy in there. Looking at the pictures on Unilocal we already had an idea of what we wanted to order. We ordered the sweet soy fried chicken, sweet soy crispy rice cakes with peanuts on top, beef tartare bimbimbap, and the beef soup with noodles. Everything came out at a pretty good pace. I think we waited maybe only 10 minutes before the first dish came out. When the chicken came out, it was quite loaded but you’d expect that for 16 bucks. Biting into it, it was crispy with a good amount of sweet soy flavor. However, the one thing I didn’t like was it was too battered. It felt like maybe 50% of it was batter and 50% chicken. Though the flavor was good, the texture and amount of chick was definitely bringing it down. 3⁄5 stars The next dish was the crispy rice cakes with sweet soy and peanuts. This was interesting. as my wife and I love rice cakes. This was crispy on the outside as I assume it was deep fried with the sweet soy and peanuts on top. This was not bad, but I wouldn’t rave about it. I’d rather actually have boiled rice cakes or pan fried, not deep fried. I’d rate this a 3⁄5 stars Then we got the beef tartare bimbimbap. There was a lot of toppings on this one, and it looked delicious. We mixed it thoroughly and added the sauce, and then we waited for the bottom to crisp up. Unfortunately the taste didn’t match the aesthetic look of it. The bowl wasn’t hot enough that the rice crisped up. which was unfortunate, and for some reason the flavours just didn’t work out. Compared to other bimbimbaps elsewhere. this bowl just wasn’t that great. I’d rate this a 2.5÷5. Then finally the beef soup that had slices of beef, rice cake, and also sweet potato noodle came. This was tiny for what I expected it to be. I also expected rice but they didn’t give us that. The soup was pretty good, the beef was tender, and the noodles were cooked well. The only downside was the lack of size. I’d rate this a 3.5÷5 Overall the experience was not bad. Would I come back again anytime soon? Probably not, but it’s definitely a good option for Korean food(but in this area there is so much competition) Food 3⁄5 Value 3⁄5 Service 5⁄5 Ambiance 4⁄5 I’d give this place overall a 3.5÷5 but Unilocal only does full stars.

The food was delicious and authentic. The Service was spot on. My friend had dropped her spoon and before she had the chance to bend over to pick it up, our server was there with a new one. Will definitely be heading back to try other dishes!

First time here and it was awesome! The only downside was my seafood pancake was on the oily side but it was packed full of seafood and flavour so I didn’t mind too much. Tofu soup was flavourful and grilled mackerel was delicious. Prices are totally reasonable — on average meals looked under $ 13. There are a la carte options too. Cute place with big projected Korean music videos on the walls and an attentive staff. Can get busy.

Going out for lunch on my birthday, back in mid-December, had to be postponed. We(my lady, daughter, and I) were finally able to coordinate a date just recently, and Pocha was my pick for the venue. I spotted the restaurant from the Lougheed Highway, and with a simple turn left, and up and into the parking lot, we were there. The lot was totally empty … was the restaurant closed? … thankfully, that was not the case, we had just arrived ahead of their opening time of 11:30am. We were inside, seated, and ordering from our friendly, and most-helpful young male server in just a matter of a few minutes. I had taken some potential menu item suggestions with me, which really helped a lot, as the menus(two of them) are rather long, and it would have taken quite some time to order(at least for this, our first time dining there). Here is what was ordered and shared: – Ojing Uh Butter Goo Yi(grilled, butter whole squid): squid is a big favourite of daughter and I, and this preparation and presentation was perfect — the whole squid sliced from tentacles to tail, and then re-assembled as ‘whole’ on the plate, and served with a dipping sauce. Good looking, fresh, tender, and tasty. – Yaang Neom Tuk Dong Saan(crispy rice cake, in sweet chili soy sauce): the rice cake presentation looked much the same as tried in other Korean restaurants, but was prepared a little differently, with the sauce a tasty, sort of sweet & spicy, and the textures of the cakes a little chewy. Colourful and tasty. – Soon Sahl Gaan Jaang Chicken(crispy, deep-fried, boneless, soy chicken): wow! what a fantastic preparation of chicken — breaded, nuggets of boneless chicken, crispy on the outside, wonderfully tender and sweet on the inside, with such a flavourful soy-based sauce. So well-prepared, and so tasty. – Dol Sot BiBimBaab(purple rice, sliced meats, and salad, in sizzling stone bowl, w/bowl of stock on side): I ordered the bibimbaab mostly to get some rice and veggies(what the Koreans usually refer to as the ‘salad’ in their bibimbaabs), and ordered one prepared in the stone bowl, for the ‘sizzle’ and extra taste these preparations seem to provide — it came to our table looking great, very colourful, nice aroma, and sizzling away. A fine addition to our meal — colourful and very tasty. – and the supplied banchan(side dishes) of kimchi, seaweed, and fried onions. And an example of the fine service we received, our server took the dishes away, and replenished each of the contents, without any asking or prompting on our part, when ‘he’ noticed they were getting empty! My belated birthday lunch at Pocha Korea Bistro was a fine treat, and big hit with the three of us. Good food and service, and friendly staff — a much-enjoyed first time visit, and we hope there will be another soon!

This place was really yummy! My friends and I got seated right away but noticed that the restaurant filled up rather quickly on Sunday evening, at about 6:30pm. It took a while to figure out what we wanted, especially because they said they ran out of kimchi. I settled on a bibimbap served in a sizzling bowl, which was pretty good. I noticed that the sizzle bowl wasn’t quite hot enough though, as my rice didn’t get crunchy and stopped sizzling quite early. The service was also rather slow, but I don’t blame the servers because there were only two for a full restaurant. Our servers were also very polite and kind. I really liked the side dishes it came with too, and liked my purple rice in my bibimbap. I quite liked this place and will probably return. I wish it wasn’t so hard to get to, but it was pretty cheap(under $ 15) and it has nice comfort food.

Was spending the weekend in Coquitlam and was really unsure where to eat when I stumbled upon Pocha on Unilocal. After some skepticism and skimming thru other reviews, we decided to give it a try and was pleasantly surprised. Upon arrival, we found Pocha was a very unassuming and hidden restaurant inside a small plaza. We ended up ordering the Fried Soy Chicken per recommendation from other Unilocalers along with Spicy Chili Rice Cakes and Seafood Tofu Soup. Everything came out quickly and the waitresses that helped us were all very courteous and nice. The food was delicious, and we really enjoyed the spicy rice cakes, it had an unexpected fried exterior that really allowed the plate to stand out from other rice cake plates from Korean restaurant. The Soy Chicken was well seasoned and tasted great as well. Overall, would definitely recommend taking a trip to Pocha and the sweet chili rice cakes are a must order along with the Soy Chicken.

Truth be told, I probably would have never eaten here if I didn’t read the Unilocal reviews for this place. It really is a hole in a wall kind of place. But boy oh boy… The food was delicious and at a great value too. And the waitresses were all so friendly :) My sister really enjoyed the pork bone and potato stew(9.95) And this is saying something since she practically orders it every time she eats at a Korean restaurant. Their Sweet Chili Rice Cake(6.95) was delicious. I loved their compliment of sweet and spicy with a tint of crunch and chewy!!! Their combos are quite the deal! We ordered a combo B of 1 pot of Mak Kul Li(Korean booze) and Deep Fried Soy Chicken($ 25.95) the chicken was«OHSOGOOD!!» I totally agree with the other Unilocal reviews. :) Only thing I wouldn’t order again is the seafood pancake. $ 9.95 is cheap. However, I’d rather they increased the price of the dish and added more seafood into it :) Regardless, I’d definitely recommend this place to people headed for Port Coquitlam.

A very authentic Korean restaurant! The front of the restaurant looks ghetto but the restaurant looks ok inside. The service was good. Waitresses and waiters always checked on our needs and they were helpful letting us know what was good(e.g. Which dishes we should try). The restaurant was clean. It just didn’t have any fancy interior decorations. The deep fried soy chicken was the best that I have ever had in Metro Vancouver. This is a must try dish. The grilled mackerel was the second best dish and then the seafood tofu stew. Pricing was reasonable as well. I would love to go back and try other dishes. *like*

Great food. Best Korean fried soy chicken with sweet sauce I’ve had in Metro Vancouver. Large portions, fairly inexpensive. Fast, helpful service. Clean. The location feels a bit sketchy but whatever. The interior décor is fine. One of the more authentic Korean restaurants around. The grilled mackerel was amazing. The soups were just so so. Probably would just stick with the grilled stuff or the fried chicken.

Great food for a great price! I have driven past by this place many times, and I gotta be honest, the store front is kinda ghetto looking. Finally, I decided to try this place out with my best friend, who also grew up in the lougheed area(aka K-town of Vancouver). We both loved it! The food is very reasonably priced, and the portions are pretty generous. The interior is just as ghetto as the store front, so i would say don’t bring your date here if you are trying to impress him/her. I would strongly recommend the cold noodles and the beef tartare if you can handle it.

Korean hospitality and cuisine at their best! Delicious and adventurous menu for the flavour and experience seekers. Pocha means«covered wagon» and is equivalent to great food truck cuisine. Price is very easy on the pocket: their noodle lunch start at $ 4.95! And they offer drink(soju or rice wine served in kettles) and meal combos for 2 for around $ 25! Staff are super attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere is like a pub where familiar regulars greet you with a smile. Ask about their«pay forward» option!
