I went to That Place twice so far and I have to say that the food is pretty good. The service is a bit lacking, however. The first time, the service was super slow. We waited 40 minutes between our appetizer and main(pizza and pasta). But again, the food was so good. We ordered the«side door» pizza and the size was huge considering we didn’t even get the large. Safe to say that the portions are generous. The second time, a group of us went for dinner. Again the service was slow but the food was great. This time, however, we felt rushed out the door. Plates were being taken away when we weren’t finished, and the bill was given to us without us even asking, while we were still eating! We did pay the bill despite there being 1⁄3 of a bottle of wine left. And even that we were rushed — so much so that my friend’s wine glass was taken away while she went to the washroom for a minute! We eventually asked for another glass and an apology was given, but the whole rushing thing was strange as it was still a couple hours until closing and a lot of tables were empty. All in all, I’m not so sure I would go back. There are a lot of places with large portions and great food without the slow service and shooing out the door.

The food was good but I was very disappointed by the slow and poor service. Waited over an hour for our meal. The place was less than half full and everyone else had all ready been served. The waitress came by quite a few times to say, just a few more minutes. I had also ordered something to go and was told that it was ordered before my main course… but 30 minutes after receiving my main course, my togo meal had even been started. I was not impressed and not going to wait another hour.

I am going to be as honest as I can even though one of my buddies is friends with the owners/chef. My friend introduced me to this place a few weeks back and at first I didn’t even know this place existed. He ordered the caesar salad to start off with which was actually a really good salad. but to be honest to mess up a caesar salad would be pretty hard. I ended up ordering the pulled pork pizza. It came out all in a weird shape and a little bit oily but the taste was pretty damn good. I also tried a bit of my friends four cheese gnocchi which was really good but I don’t think I could eat the whole thing as it was really rich. I came back last night for Tuesday 7.99 pasta. I ordered the spinach tortellini with chicken in a spicy rose sauce. I ended up switching out the tortellini for whole wheat because I’m a health nut. The portion was decent. I was satisfied but I could’ve eaten more. My other friends ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, the bolognese and I think one of the alfredo ones. The portions for theirs was pretty good. For 7.99 though it’s a pretty good deal. They also have 7.99 pizzas on Thursdays, which I plan to try eventually. The service was not that great though last night as it was pretty packed and only two servers. They did what they could but we waited for a while before our order came and also we waited to pay for a while. I think they are just understaffed and that could change easily. Knowing my friend. who loves this place I am sure I will be back and I won’t be sour about it because it’s actually a pretty good place to eat. I’d recommend coming if you aren’t in a rush and want a good meal for a decent/cheap price.

This review is for the takeout pizza. I had the side door and it was maybe one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had :-)

What a great find! Try«That Mess» for starters. And the Pizza… oh the Pizza. Their hand formed, multi-grain pizza crust would taste great alone(but then they throw on some creative toppings — try the«Cowboy» — and blow your mind). I shared a delicious pasta with my mom, and it fed us both well. Mushrooms and smoked duck… mmmm. Good service, too. What a win! Can’t wait for our next visit.

Read the reviews and was intrigued… then i saw it was pizza thursday… I wondered, will the pineapple be fresh like it should be… straight to the bar when dining alone, lovely Nan poured the wine she liked most and my order went in for the ‘BACKDOOR’ pie… i also ordered the crème brûlée at the same time as i know it takes time to make it a masterpiece and I always like my dessert ready when I finish my main course… its why I leave room for it… and it should be hot! The pizza was fast and the pineapple fresh. In the meantime, I enjoyed a chit chat with a local regular to inquire about the pasta… Tuesday’s is the pasta deal. The seafood one is favorited… When I was ready for crème brûlée it arrived after a few minutes… with the chef/owner feeling quite confident his is the best… real vanilla was a score, however disappointed that it was cold on the bottom, a true brulee spoil… and the crisp sugary crust was as thick as bullet proof glass… the crème was tasty enough. unfortunatly the dessert failed… The nice thing was he asked for feedback and I told him the truth… that it was cold… couldn’t get another word in before I left… hopefully my pasta tuesday experience with ‘sex in a pan’ wins me over…

My boyfriend and myself are pasta fans. especially GNOCCHI, and his sister recommended for us to try this place. Had the baked Gnocchi, with gorgonzola cheese, it was amazing!!! Definitely will be going back this week. They have a special on Tuesday for 7.99 pasta. and Thurdays 7.99 pizza, great DEAL! Our service was great, friendly staff, prompt service. Overall, really enjoyed this place, recommend it, and will be going back.

My boyfriend and I decided to try this place when it first opened. When we were seated, there were only 2 other tables. Service was very slow. After we put our orders in, 2 more tables were seated, one had 6 people. Our appetizers never arrived, and our drinks were never refilled. The larger tables food was brought out before ours, even though we had ordered before them. When our waiter finally brought our food we mentioned that our appie didn’t come. He laughed and said ‘oh that’s cause I didn’t order it’ ?!? I then complained about the other table being served first but he didn’t seem to care. We will not be back

Overall — the service was terrible. Truly shyte. The woman who greeted and sat us was nice enough, but she didn’t serve us. The guy who did didn’t communicate with us that they screwed up my meal and had to make a new one. So my hubs’ pizza came out. He waited for a bit, but I told him to go ahead… we were both Hooong-gray! We waited some more. And then some more. Finally after about 12 or 15 minutes, we flagged him down and he said«they did it wrong so they are making another one» and then he left. No «sorry», no voluntary explanation. So my pasta came out, and my husband had already finished over half of his pizza. We had small glasses for water. He never came back to refill them. Finally, when we asked for the bill, my hubs asked for more water. If you are a gluten-free-ist like me, don’t order the pasta. It was the grossest, stickiest consistency I’ve ever had in a pasta. I know that corn and rice pastas are just different(sadly) from standard, gluten-y wheat pasta, but this was just unpleasant. It tasted mildly gritty and kept sticking to my teeth. Add in the fact that we didn’t have water, and my meal felt more like a series of challenges and not an enjoyable meal. It seemed like the tables with«regulars», or people drinking a lot of alcohol, were served and checked in on regularly. We had to flag him down(the restaurant is not that large, and it wasn’t crazy busy or anything). I let him know the pasta was gross, and he just shrugged his shoulders. Gee… thanks. My hubs’ said his pizza tasted pretty good overall. So, I figured I would be generous with the 2nd star. Otherwise, not worth the experience, to pay $ 15 for disgusting pasta and a server who made us feel like we were bothering him when we needed more water. I know I sound bitter and jaded, but that’s probably because I’m bitter and jaded. ;)

Never had a bad meal here. I have eaten at «That Place» a dozen times over the past couple years since its been reopened. I think the price is great for the quality.

Where to start? The service was subpar at best. The server spent more time laughing so loud with the kitchen staff that we could hear him over the music across the whole dining room. We started with the calamari which was chewy from obvious over cooking, accompanied by a dismal dipping sauce. Then it was on to our marathon wait between courses; with only 3 other tables seated in the place I found it inexcusable. If the chef spent as much time in the kitchen as he did in the dining room we would have been fed much faster. I had the Linguini Fumato which was described as having smoked duck, wild mushrooms, corn and truffle oil. If you consider button mushrooms to be «wild» I don’t know what mushroom isn’t. There were four super thinly sliced pieces of which I assume were duck and could not find any hint of truffle oil. My girlfriend had vegetarian pasta consisting of over cooked vegetables on the verge of being baby food, she ate 2 bites. Save your money and check out IKEA across the street, they have Swedish meatballs that blow this place out of the water, even if they are made with horse meat.

Cute little pasta place — very tasty pasta sauce. I had the Fettuccini Veneziana and friend had the Baked Canneloni both were fantastic and pretty big portions with garlic bread. Would love to try its pizza next time! Note: there’s parking lot around the back(free) so plenty of parking!

Quieter than most big-chain restaurants(Earls, etc.), but still alive when enough customers are there. Very good food, great serving sizes, and OK prices. «Small» pizzas were actually bigger than the size listed for«large» ones(maybe the cook was having a good day?). If you are going for the ribs and pasta I would really suggest NOT to have an appetizer unless you want to take some home. The only thing that hasn’t been great was a salad: described as «mixed greens» — actually nothing but«iceberg lettuce» — but the dressing and extras were still tasty. If you are nearby, stop in. It is nice to find a place that isn’t a mega-chain and has tasty food at a not-to-scary price. I hesitate to say it, but they do have a take-out/delivery menu on-line, but don’t think of it as a take-out joint. The food and eating area are«real restaurant».

We went for a family dinner. It was casual, had a good selection, huge portions, great value, super friendly service and everyone loved their food! Since everything was great from start to finish, let me go over a few things that were EXCELLENT: Pan Seared Scallops — cooked to perfection and the dill, truffle oil sauce was delicious. Caesar salad — probably the best I’ve ever tasted! Traditional Lasagna — Fantastic! Pear, peach and apple Crumble — it was a special this weekend but insanely good so I hope they add it to the regular menu. Not enough desserts in North America have pear in them in my opinion. We all loved our family dinner there and I think it is going to be our new place to eat in Coquitlam. Often I am disappointed going to restaurants in the burbs but That Place has the quality and flavours of a great Yaletown restaurant, with the portion sizes and local friendliness of a suburban diner. Highly recommend!

Small, quaint and cozy. We started with the pan seared scallops. There were only five pieces but they were tasty in a dill and truffle cream sauce. Very good. I had the traditional lasagna and it was fantastic. Nice serving size and a nice bite to the sauce. My girlfriend had the fettuccine veneziana. Huge serving, lots of shrimp and prawns. The shrimp and prawns were really good quality and the dish overall was very tasty. She did say it could use a bit more sauce. Both were served with a very nice multi-grain garlic toast. The service was a little slow, but, to be fair, there was one server and a party of 7 at another table and our server was very friendly. We have found a great little, pretty affordable Italian place. We will be going back there again for sure. Maybe next time we will save room for dessert. Apparently the«Sex in a Pan» is very good there.

After driving by a few times, the name of this restaurant is what drew me in to give it a try. It was fun to say to my boyfriend«Hey! Lets go try ‘That Place!’ «and he would reply: «what place?» and then me: «That Place! You know! ‘That Place’. .?» We were greeted at the door and told we could sit anywhere we like. It is a pretty small restaurant and there was only a few people there but it started to fill up and get pretty busy just as we were finishing eating. Service wasn’t bad near the beginning, our orders were taken and our waiter lit a candle at our table. I ordered the lasagna and my boyfriend ordered the gnocchi and we also ordered a ceasar salad appetizer which was never served to us, so I’m guessing they forgot. We didn’t say anything though because when the food arrived we were pretty pleased with the portions and slightly relieved we didn’t receive our appy. The food was DELICIOUS! There were a few items on the menu labelled: ‘That dip’, ‘Those mussells’, ‘That pasta’. I was torn on ordering at least one of these so I could then say, «lets go to ‘That Place’ so I can order ‘That pasta’!» :P Haha! anyways, the reason they lost a star is because after we were finished eating we did a LOT of waiting around for the bill, it was like our waiter had completely forgotten about us. Finally we had to flag down another waiter to get our bill. By then it was pretty busy in there, but it still is a pretty small restaurant so thats not much of an excuse. Nonetheless, I will definitely be going back to give it a second go. They also do delivery and takeout so that may be an option I’d look into in the future.

I feel a bit bad writing this review, because really, That Place had great food. However, upon arriving to the completely empty restaurant and being greeted with a rushed, «How many?» rather than a, «Welcome to That Place!», we were seated at a table right next to the front door… a bit breezy. We got our drinks right away and were set to order our appy but we waited and waited and got no service. Starving, we bailed on the appy and just ordered the main course. It took awhile for the food to come, and in the meantime, we were in need of drinks but again, no service. Every aspect of service from start to finish was slow and rather unfriendly for a place called, «That Place.» I’d love to give it a try again because the gnocchi was tastey, as well as the chicken parm… hopefully service was just having a rough go at it that night and things will be better next time!
