Salvation Army Thrift Store

The location for this little shop can’t be beat. If you’re from Halifax and don’t like crossing into dark and scary Dartmouth, it’s just over the bridge. If you’re taking public transit, it’s near a major bus juncture. If you live in Dartmouth it’s on the way to/​from Halifax.
The store itself is wonderfully odd. Most thrift stores focus on either clothes or kitsch. This managed to balance both without being entirely overwhelming in either regard. When you first enter, you hit my favourite section: knick knacks, kitchen and dining supplies and… just a whole assortment of odds and ends. I’ve picked up several small items here that I love. I got a vase, a soap dish and more for my new apartment.
I’ve not tried the clothes section but it seems somewhat steadily busy over there.
The staff are great. Always in good spirits and happy to help if you need it.

I may be a bit biased since it’s in my neck o’ the HRM woods, but I think this is one of the best little thrift stores around.
It seems to possess a magical quality: I go in thinking «golly gosh I sure would love some cords» and abracadabra, I find two almost-​brand-​new pairs in my size. A few weeks ago I picked up a pair of high-​quality shoes that had never been worn and paid five bucks. Try to do that at any retail store in town!
On Wednesdays they have what they call «Happy Hour» — from 3:00 to 5:00 all clothing is 50% off!
There is also a small but decent selection of books, some fairly standard thrift-​store housewares (nice dishes can often be found), the occasional amazing deal on furniture (though the good stuff tends to get scooped up pretty quick), and just recently they’ve started selling Boomerang brand recycled paint.
The staff is friendly and helpful, (and often very funny) and I make it a habit to stop by regularly to see what’s in store.

We went here looking for some clothes to take with us for the summer trips. This was a great find thanks to Lacey. I would have never ventured
here if not.
There is a fairly large selection here compared to other stores. We found some pretty cheap pants and tops. I also like the fact that it was clean and the staff friendly.
They do have weekly specials here, so give them a call or better yet stop over.

I like this cross bridge Sally-​Anne. Andrew and I biked over to Dartmouth yesterday to enjoy some smaller city offerings. We wandered into this thrift store to peruse clothing and luckily found some solid finds.
I was happily informed that it was student day yesterday, and since I still happen to have an ID, I was able to get in on the savings. The Salvation Army offers special discount days throughout the week: for students, seniors and as well, a Wednesday afternoon super savings event for everyone to take advantage of.
This store has a fair amount of clothing, including an amply sized children’s section. There are also CDs, and movies as well as books and a bit of household décor. I snagged a top for $ 2 but it actually only cost about $ 1.50 with the discount — score.
The woman at the counter was quite nice and the space is clean and bright. This is a good Salvation Army to frequent. It’s fairly untapped, since it is in Dartmouth, so there can be some pretty sweet finds. Check it out!
