Look, I would love to be able to afford to shop at boutique stores where staff wait on you hand-and-foot offering you free specialty coffees while you browse their selection. But sometimes, you just need cheap socks. At those times, it’s off to Zellers, I go. I know, I know, Zellers isn’t «cool» and is a dying breed(Hello, Target!) but they have a fair selection of products at good prices. Heck, that’s the whole point of department stores, after all. Service here is … odd. Some days the store is overflowing with staff members. Others, I feel like I’m wandering through some post-apocalyptic world where I’m the only survivor. And, yes, that does also speak to the number of customers. Nonetheless, when you finally get to the check-out, cashiers are(typically but not always) friendly and smiley. One of the great things? Their hours. Open at 8 a.m., this make an ideal stop if you’re rushing somewhere in the morning and realize you need something that you won’t find in a convenience store. And that’s six days a week, by the way.

Sometimes they say that Customer Service can keep you coming back. Well I called Zellers yesterday as I was looking for a waggon for my Godson 1stBD. Last day on the sale to save $ 30. Transferred to the toy section I came across Judy who was so friendly and helpful and told me to ask for her when I came to pick it up. Arriving after work to what almost looked like a ghost town I walked into Zellers. The store itself just looks old it really needs a face lift. Off to the toy section and there is Judy working away and was eager to help me. She has someone get the waggon bring it up front and to my car and I just had to pass the plastic gotta love it. Zellers has been in this location for a long time and it is sometime so easy to go to another department store but when someone helps you like Judy did it make you think twice. So thank you Judy for that great Customer Service experience.

A few months ago Zellers had an ad in the flyer for 50% off all their couch covers. Desperately in need of a couch cover, I went there early in the week, only to discover they only had 2 left. The customer associate went on to explain to me that they only ever had a few covers but were trying to clear them out so they could get new shipments in. I’ve also had many experiences at Zellers’ cash register where my sales items have gotten rung through at full price rather than sales price. This has become a frequent occurrence. Morals of the story… Always be mindful when the cashiers are ringing through your sales items, and don’t get overly excited when you see an ad in the flyer because you might be setting yourself up for disappointment.
