Food was good, staff was friendly, average portion size. Nothing over and above but good.

The best place in town?? Hahahaha. No. Food is… meh. Service is good! Desserts are the only real amazing thing here. Other than that it’s just another«family restaurant» along the same lines as an ABC or Kelseys type of place. Meh.

Best service best food Home style not fancy great breakfast and nonstop coffee and a very extensive menu. We stop here alot and have never been disappointed. As long as you are looking for diner food you will love it. Not a fancy restaurant but very reliably good food.

Still the best place in town. The food, service and price cannot be beat. The clam chowder is completely delicious.

I’ve eaten here a number of times and there are pluses and minuses. On the plus side when you order coffee they bring you a thermos pot. Minus is the fact that the creamers aren’t refrigerated and I’ve poured cheese into my coffee on occassion. Another plus is the staff, always well trained, professional and polite. Minus is the fact that ordering your eggs«over medium» or «over easy» seems confusing to the cooks. They can’t seem to grasp the«over» part. Instead of flipping your eggs they put a lid over them to accomplish the desired doneness. Not a big deal but really, how hard is it to use a spatula. For dinner this is a favorite of the«soft food» crowd, alot of things on the menu that are easy on the dentures. I’ve never had a bad meal there but I’ve never left there going«wow, that was awesome» It’s consistently OK wich is more than I can say for some places in town. If you want a little more colour and a less octogenarian atmosphere, venture into town to try the Arbutus Café.

Looking for a comfortable family style restaurant, with easy access off Island Highway? Here’s a great«stop» if you’re driving up to Nanaimo from Victoria, or vice versa… excellent breakfasts, well priced lunch and dinner menu, plus desserts made on the premises… check out the dessert case when you enter(home-made pies). Friendly waitresses, good food/well priced, E.J. Hughes prints on the walls, booths and tables… it’s sort of old style, but with flair, and a very comfortable and cost effective opportunity, in the Cowichan Valley. Try it! And yes, you might see me having breakfast there… wave!
