Blo Edmonton

So much fun! Blo is an adorable, pink and white, bubble gum fun, blow dry bar centrally located in Canterbury mall. I wasn’t sure what to expect, I had seen and heard of «blow bars» in bigger Canadian and US cities and was excited to try Edmonton’s first. From what I can tell most of the girls working there are quite young, some going through beauty school but, they know how to blow out a head of hair! The walls are adorned with large blown up prints of iconic hairdos such as Barbarella, Bardot, Hepburn, Monroe, etc. Even the loo décor is covered in hot pink jeweled mirrors, soap containers and stars!
I was quickly washed and painstakingly dried with expert voluming technique — which I could never self create. My hair was then curled an expanding dust (ya, I don’t know either) was used to back comb it into the look they call ‘Holly Would’. All in all, it was fast, fairly cheap and a fun way to look super glamorous for a special night on the town — without having the stress of doing my hair myself. Parking’s free, it is easy to get an appointment, so all you have to do is sit and… Wash, Blo & Go!

Rather than going to a normal salon and paying a zillion dollars, I decided to go to Blo to get my hair styled for a wedding I was in recently. I have to say, I am a fan!
I booked my appointment online and received confirmation via email and telephone. When I got there, I was welcomed almost immediately and given a catalog of the signature styles to look through, as well as a binder of photos. My stylist came over and we discussed what I wanted my hair to look like (slightly modified Holly Would) and got started. She asked if I wanted my hair washed, but I said no as it was fairly clean and would hold a curl better anyway.
The appointment took longer than I expected; with two people working on my hair, it took about an hour (though I do have a lot of hair, so I usually expect this when I’m getting it done). The outcome was pretty much exactly what we talked about and just what I wanted, and she fixed my hair so that it held very well all day and night!
Overall, for the price, this is most definitely worth it when you want to skip the huge fee at the hairdresser, or even just for that extra je né sais quoi on a night out. I will certainly be returning.

I went to Blo recently to get my hair styled for some photos; while I’ve seen Blo while I’ve been to nearby restaurants, I’ve never been in or looked into their services.
It is an untapped market with Edmonton! My appointment was easy to book and I was scheduled in quickly a few days before my desired date. On the day of my photos, I arrived a few minutes early and was checked in; the building itself is simple, relaxing and comfortable.
I choose my hair style from the menu of seven options (you can also go a la carte if you’re looking for something different, though the list is fairly inclusive of current popular styles), specifically the «sex, hugs and rock & roll» look, which they used a flat iron to create the curls. For $ 35, I received a great hairstyle, relaxed and chatted with my «bloer» and was impressed with the service & atmosphere.
I would definitely go back to Blo and I already recommend it to my friends. Most people don’t know about it! I’ve paid significantly higher prices to have my hair styled at salons for special events; next time I will go to Blo for one of their signatures styles OR a specific hairdo.
The building is clean, comfortable, stylish yet unpretentious & relaxing with easy parking; the staff were lovely, friendly & highly skilled. You can’t go wrong by booking an appointment at Blo!
