Once upon a time, I thought nothing could beat a steaming, juicy, Costco Hot Dog. Seriously. Even if I didn’t need groceries I would be stopping in for a little afternoon delight. Then I discovered Fat Franks. Though the menu is limited to ‘tube steaks’ the variety extends well beyond ones imagination. From jumbo dogs, to veggie dogs, honey ham to turkey dogs, to jalapeño and cheddar, there is a flavor for every palate! I revisited my love for a good old fashion smokey at Unilocal’s ultimate picnic party over the labour day weekend. I opted for the jalapeño cheddar smokey on whole wheat and topped it off with the house made jalapeño mustard, relish and chopped onion. It was grilled to perfection with just the right amount of spice and void of any mystery grease. My tastebuds were totally satisfied. The vendors are equipped with traditional toppings and a variety of house made sauces. I almost prefer getting a basic meat and jazzing it up with a variety of flavors from the confinement bar. My favorite part– the price is right. Fat Franks is a delicious meal option that is budget friendly! Tip– make sure you specify which type of bun you would like. Most vendors just assume white bread but I’m definitely a fan of their whole wheat!

One word: YUP. You simply cannot take a stroll down Whyte Ave without grabbing one of these babies! Fat Franks does hot dogs and smoked sausages, and boy, are they GOOD! The honey ham smokie I literally dreamt(and drooled) about for days, it’s that good. You have a lot of different options for condiments(get the curry mustard, yum!) as well as additions to your frank(hello banana peppers). I’ve never had bad service here, whether it was a busy summer day, late night on the weekend, or off season when there isn’t much foot traffic. The staff is very friendly! I think the one downside is that they only take cash, and if you’re like me, you don’t have it very often! But when I do you can count on me grabbing one of these!

Yum! I love hot dogs and smokies, they are literally my favourite food group! I will choose a ‘dawg over a burger any and every day of the week. So when I say Fat Franks is good, I really mean they are good! From veggie dogs to jalapeño smokies, to turkey franks and about 3 –4 other varieties, as well your choice of whole wheat, white, even GF buns that are all fresh, fluffy and delicious. Then once you are handed your Fat Frank you are given a plethora of condiments! Woo woo! I love condiments! Sweet corn & regular relish, jalapenos, sauerkraut, onions, pickles… then the sauces(ooooo, the sauces!!) I am salivating writing this! The chipotle ketchup, the crazy spicy beer mustard, the phenomenal curry mustard(I could put that on everything!) and more and more. All so, so good! If you are hungry and see a Fat Franks cart run, don’t walk. You won’t be disappointed.

I’ve been meaning to try a Fat Franks dog for a really long time, and I just had the opportunity at Unilocal’s Ultimate Picnic. I had the cheddar smokie, and it was oh so delicious!!! Perfectly grilled, real cheddar taste, served on a fresh bun and a great assortment of toppings. The corn relish and beer mustard are fantastic. Next time I want to try the curry mustard and chipotle ketchup. The Fat Franks smokies are a caloric bomb, but I guess what do you expect with a name like Fat Franks? Oh well, good for a once in a while treat when you are craving an excellent hot dog!

I don’t often stop here. Honestly, I’m not a hotdog fan, and I forget this place has smokies as well. Unilocal’s Ultimate Picnic had one of their carts at the event, slinging these bad boys as the main course, so that’s what was for dinner! I had a Jalapeño cheese smokie with three different kinds of mustard(curry, jalapeño and beer), and one kind of ketchup(chipotle), because, well, it was there and I could! It was a good life decision. Every bite had a different thing going on, and all the things were good. If I was out and about, I would stop by for a bite. But be hungry! I couldn’t finish mine.

food is good and the pricing is quite reasonable. Customer service is mediocre. Staffs there seem to be treated unfairly by each other. I will come back when I visit Edmonton again, but at a different location.

Who knew you could get hot dogs like this! These are amazing, it was quick and easy, and delicious. There were so many options and My only complaint was the lack of debit, and a little bit over priced, but it was deff worth it!

It’s after 2AM. The last band just finished playing at Wunderbar. You couldn’t hear anything the screamo lead singer was… screaming-singing. You can barely hear. You’re drunk, tired, and hungry. You’ve only got a few bucks left in your wallet. What do you do? Eat at Fat Franks, of course. It may not have been the most memorable meal, but damn if that hot dog wasn’t just what I needed at the time. Have it your way with every condiment imaginable, plus veggie dogs for thooose friends(no seriously, I was with like, all vegetarians that night). This place makes everyone happy and can solve any kind of problem you’re having on a night out on Whyte. Seriously. Did your dude friends just watch their favourite team lose on the TVs at Hudsons? Take them to Fat Franks. You can’t lose here! Did your friend just break up with her boyfriend at Lucky 13 and now she’s crying uncontrollably? Take her to Fat Franks. I think you see where I’m going with this. Oh, yeah — Yum Town. That’s where I’m going with this.

I love Fat Franks. I volunteered on a project and a Fat Franks cart set up outside every Saturday and that was all the thanks I needed.

What a life saver on weekends. I have seen lineups for Fat Franks that rival most clubs on Whyte Ave. It is well worth the wait. This is your classic Hot Dog stand and they make them so good. They have a huge selection of toppings and the price is decent but really they can charge whatever they want. People are desperate for food after the club and will pay almost anything at that point. I often wonder how much money they make off the clubbers. They do have more to offer, but all I care about is their hot dogs.

Fat Frank’s has the best dogs in the city! I don’t even eat hot gods unless they are from here! Unfortunately, they only run during nice weather, and since we live in Alberta and our winters are sub zero, we only get the pleasure of enjoying these hot dogs about 6 months out of the year. The fact that these stands have such awesome toppings are partially what makes them amazing — onions, sauerkraut, relish, mustard, honey mustard, hot sauce etc. They also have different flavored dogs — jalapeño and cheddar are my all time fave! Go out on a nice day and enjoy a hot dog from Frank’s. It is definitely worth your penny.

Who wouldn’t love a place called Fat Franks?! This is a great place to grab a bite when you’re walking down Whyte Ave or whenever you just feel like a good ol’ hot dog! I have to admit, I think Fat Franks is a little expensive considering they are selling hot dogs. But on the other hand, they sell great hot dogs! I don’t really know what else to say about Fat Franks except that have great hot dogs and they have great staff. I love stopping by Fat Franks for a quick bite on a cool day.

I am sure that for all of those who party their weekends away on Whyte Avenue, Fat Franks is a life savior. I mean, what could be better than to grab a hotdog when you are tipsy, hungry and tired of all the dancing? Little outdoor stand where Fat Frank’s hotdogs are sold always attracts customers, but the line is especially long during weekend nights. No wonder Fat Frank’s is so popular since hotdogs are mouth watering, come with all sorts of delicious toppings and are a good deal for the price considering their more than ample size. I have uploaded the picture of the menu so you can see for yourself what Fat Frank’s has to offer.

This hot dog stand in Edmonton’s answer to homesick Torontonians and New Yorkers at 2 a.m. on a Saturday night. Street dogs are a way of life in some cities, but Edmonton hasn’t really caught on — possibly because it’s just too cold to sell much on the streets half of the year. I’ve seen some hot dog vendors set up around 124 St. in the summer. Fat Franks has been a steady fixture, at least for the last 5 years that I’ve lived in E-town. It’s boarded up in the winter, but in the spring, summer and fall, it gives off a steady vapour of bbq weiners that could be sniffed out by any TO or NY ex-pat within a 1-kilometre radius. Of course, it’s not quite as authentic as the ones cooked up on giant bbqs in the streets, but they’re close. They more remind me of the fat ones you get at Costco’s food fair, but after you’ve stubbled out of the bar and caught a whiff of the aroma, i’m not sure it really matters. So, Fat Franks it is. It’s situated right next to The Yoga Loft, two stories up, and I’ve actually been taking a yoga class before and smelled the sizzling dogs wafting in the window two floors up. Once the smell gets in your nostrils you’re in trouble.

This location of Fat Franks is the original, on Whyte Avenue. There is outdoor seating in the nice weather, and generally it is closed during the heart of the winter. This is the only Fat Franks where they offer to put grilled onions on my hot dog(yum!) and also one of the few with a full service menu, including fries and onion rings. Otherwise, it is a classic Fat Franks experience, with loads of condiments to pile on, fresh buns, and delicious dogs.

I just had Fat Franks for the first time tonight, and I gotta say, it’s going to be hard going back to regular hot dogs. These franks are huge and juicy, and you can pile on as many toppings as you want. I had the regular jumbo dog, while my boyfriend opted for the jumbo chili cheese dog. The bacon and cheese dog sounded really good, but that’s just asking for a heart attack! As big as they are, I was surprised that I wasn’t full in the end, just like a normal hot dog. I liked that the woman working there asked me if I wanted fried onions before she piled them on my hot dog, since I have a strict aversion to onions. They had pickles, peppers, cream corn, anchovies, and raw onions for toppings. After covering my hot dog with ketchup and sweet onion mustard, I loaded pickles on top. Hey, don’t knock it til you’ve tried it. Pickles on hot dogs taste awesome! This location is basically a food stand outside, and they have few bar-stools off to the side where you can sit. Since it’s cold weather right now, you have to eat your frank quickly, since there’s nowhere to duck for warmth. Cash only at this location.
