It’s going to be awesome when this place closes and something good opens up in its place. Here are a couple of experiences from last night.(1) Waited probably 10 minutes for a server to get to the table.(2) Ordered food… took for GD ever to get to the table.(3) Ordered Apple Pie Shooters… server comes back and tells me the bartender/owner said they didn’t have the ingredients(FYI ingredients are Butter Ripple Schnapps and Apple Sour Puss and a sprinkle of cinnamon).(4) Ordered Lemon Drop Shooters… got told the bartender/owner was to busy to make a fancy shooter like that. To which I look around the room and notice they are at about 30% capacity. I look and the server to verify whether she is joking or not. She assures me they are«frantic».(FYI a Lemon Drop Shooter — at least the way I like it — contains vodka with a lemon rimmed shot glass dipped in sugar).(5) Ordered Burt Reynolds Shooters… success! Oh wait, no the server came back to the table to inform us they didn’t have one of the ingredients(FYI Burt Reynolds shot contains Rum and Butter Ripple Schnapps). I’m guessing it’s the butter ripple schnapps they didn’t have.(6) Not to be completely disparaging, our server was really nice and very friendly. Which is why she got any amount of a tip at all. Here’s my advice. Go somewhere else altogether. And if the bartender/owner reads this, go to the liquor store and buy some god damned product and stock your god damned bar. You’re running a business. If I have butter ripple schnapps in my home bar, you should have it in yours. Then take some bar tending lessons. You obviously have no idea what you’re doing back there so either learn your craft or hire someone who knows what they are doing. Enough with the amateur hour.

The food is reasonably priced and pretty good, the place needs a make over though. It has character but if a tourist walked in they might just walk right back out.

Well we were across the street at the Rocky Mountain icehouse and we just weren’t feeling it. So we came across the street to 1905 pub because of curiosity but also because of a rave review that I read here on Unilocal. So walking in it was exactly what was expected retro to the nth degree. We love it. Once we Peru’s the menu for a short while we decided on the fat bastard burger with the garlic cream past as a side for myself, and Tina went with the bacon and mushroom gourmet hot dog with the tomato sauce side of pasta. Very surprised at the very large portions. The burger was fantastic and the Cream garlic pasta was okay I will definitely go with the tomato sauce next time. The gourmet bacon and mushroom hotdog that Tina ordered was absolutely huge and the buns for both the burger and the dog were excellent, they have them fresh-baked and delivered every day. Neither one of us could finish our meals completely because of the large portion. However everything was delicious. Nice relaxed atmosphere and the prices aren’t too bad. Service was good and I would definitely recommend coming here for the fat bastard burger or any one of the gourmet hotdogs. We will most definitely be back. Cheers… Dino

This pub HAD been a long time favorite for my husband and I. Our last visit(this past Monday) left a pretty bad impression and though we will likely return it will be with hesitation. It took an extremely long time to get any attention from the server. She handed us menus without a word, and left for about 10 minutes. When she came back we ordered a couple of pizzas, and she informed us they were out of pizza. I understand that happens, but why wouldn’t you say so when you hand someone the menu? That’s a pretty big deal. She left for another 10 minutes and came back to take our order. When our food finally came she realized she had forgotten to bring cutlery. After she set the cutlery on the table we noticed blood on the napkins. A significant amount. When she came back we pointed it out and she replied«eww gross.» and returned with new napkins. I’m not a super queasy person, but fresh blood can be extremely dangerous and it was a slightly traumatic experience. She offered nothing as compensation, not even an apology. Outside of the bloody napkins the service was mediocre at best. The food was good enough, the prices about average. They had certain beers on special for $ 6 a pint. Dinner for 4 of us including a couple of beers was about $ 80, no appetizers. It is a nice and quiet place, a little dark and dingy, but plenty of space between tables for the most part. The music they were playing skipped through most of our visit. There has been a gradual but steady decline in atmosphere and service over the last 10 years, hopefully the owners revitalize a little with downtown growing as much as it has. All in all not bad if you keep REALLY low expectations.

Friendly servers(one time I left my jacket there in a drunken stupor, and they handed it to me with a smile on their face when I showed up the next day), variety of selection of pub food, pool table with room to actually play… and best of all, the music is actually a reasonable volume to allow for conversation. The last point is really what kept me coming back here to hang out, as I can’t comprehend why it seems like even every British-style pub in Edmonton seems to blast obnoxious club music until it blows your ears out. It’s a bit drab, but I like my pubs that way. The customer base here is diverse, and I have seen college kids, businesspeople, blue collar types, uniformed police officers, sketchy characters and seniors hanging out there. This has allowed for some random funny encounters and adventures that I have fond memories of. If you are a beer connoisseur, the beer menu will not satisfy your tastes and I’d recommend checking out Craft instead. For anyone who just wants to hang out with some friends and swap stories over a few humble drinks, this place is great.

Went mid December. Like walking into a somewhat classier small town bar. I say that in a good way. Pool table, check. Plenty of wood, check. Cozy, comfy, dimly lit. Love the atmosphere, and cheap pints till 7 is a win. Will be by again in the future! Protip: Steep step on the way out. An ankle breaker. Watch it.

Oh pub 1905, my favourite meeting room after the work day is done. This downtown local pub has a massive amount of space. You will never be waiting around looking for a place to sit even if you bring a large group of friends here. The atmosphere is very calm and relaxed and probably one of the quietest pubs I have ever been to. They close down at midnight however unlike most pubs. There isn’t much of a night crowd here so it never gets packed and crazy at closing time. They have some of the best gourmet hotdogs I have ever had. If you looking for some good lunch or supper I highly recommend the sled dog. Sometimes the service can be slow if they are short handed. But the waitresses are always friendly and helpful. So sit back, relax with a cold beer and a hot dog. It’s game time.

What can I say this is you run of the mill bar, nothing to spectacular however it reminds me vaguely of the pub from how I met your mother. The bar itself is usually empty even on expectantly busy nights such a New Years. I used to think this place was the absolute bomb in my late teens but since experiencing more of the Edmonton night life I have to say I have experience better. One very positive comment though, the food and boose are dirt cheap but delicious, great for the college student or stringent spender.

I always wonder why this place is dark at all times ! But still can’t figure out. This pub is less noisy when I compare to other pubs I have been to. Pool tables, TVs for watching sports and friendly waitresses . I wouldn’t say their chicken wings are great but their pizzas are pretty tasty. This pub is a good place to go for a lunch meet or probably after work for a drink with your colleagues. Beer selections are not huge but they always have some good deals for happy hours. It works for me ! I recommend this place and I will be going back as well !

Not a bad place to hold a casual business lunch. It’s a touch dark and dingy, but isn’t that the charm of every great pub? The service was excellent, attentive yet not overbearing. The food left me wanting. Pulled pork is supposed to be stew-like…thick, drippy, messy, hot, and chunky. It was lukewarm, and dry. Very sad. Fries weren’t bad. My lunch mate had the bacon mushroom cheese burger, and he said it was good. Price point isn’t bad…$ 11 for a burger/sandwich is pretty reasonable.

This is a neighbourhood pub on Jasper Avenue in Edmonton. Good size with a few TV screens and a couple pool tables. A little dark but eyes adjust nicely. Food portions are large and beer is cheep compared to other places. The chili dog is the popular one to get and comes with a choice of side. The side salad was huge with mixed veggies. Down to earth feel with a mixed crowd. Two thumbs up.

As skeevy as this place looks on the outside… I think it’s awesome. Reminds me of what the Cambie used to be before it got invaded by hipsters. Décor is old school pub, menu is fantastic… beer is a little over priced, but being from Vancouver I can deal with it. Music wasn’t obnoxiously loud and had a killer rotation of solid rock music. Staff was friendly… I think I found my new favourite watering hole.

For the most part Pub 1905 has a decent selection of beer, tends to be much louder on nights the Oilers are playing, and difficult to find a spot after 4:30 — 5:00 on a Friday. Overall, the service is fairly good. The hot dogs and steak sandwiches are the best part of menu. I have also ordered the Mussels quite often and they are great, including the bread ring. The arcade games(golfing) can be a bit annoying, especially if you are sitting nearby, which seems to be used only by the owner and his buddy, the techy with the permanent Bluetooth affixed to the side of his head. The pub is fairly roomy so, although they don’t take reservations, there is ample room for after work crowds if you get there earlier enough.

For me, Pub 1905 is a solid 3 star pub. It’s that reliable place you can always come to, knowing exactly what you will get. They have it all. They’ve got the set of two pool tables, they have the big bar in the center of the room, they have a decent food menu and they have, most importantly, a predictable yet comfortable list of spirits, wines and beers. I’ve been here three times and haven’t eaten more than appetizers. The food feels like regular ol’ pub food which is always a good thing. One complaint is that I find the drinks could be a little cheaper. The place doesn’t have much of a cachet to begin with, apart from being in expensive rent area. As I’ve reached my 30s, I feel like I don’t mind spending money on quality alcohol but if it’s going to be Ricard’s White, it better be less than $ 5. I had a black and tan drink with an ounce of Maker’s Mark on the side. It was $ 15! Hope these guys hang around for quite a while longer. I’ve noticed a couple of reviews mentioning how the crowd is mixed. Some younger, well dressed people as well as regular old pub folk. I don’t mind that, per se. I wouldn’t say it’s a place to ‘meet a girl at the bar’.

Pub 1905 is questionable and draws a diverse crowd. I regularly bump shoulders with both grandmothers and bikers when entering through the angled doorway(watch your step, by the way). I ended up here by accident one evening on a dating misadventure. The guy & I never went out again, but ever since Pub 1905 has become a place I frequent at least once a month. The burgers here are incredible — seriously! Nachos aren’t bad either. Staff is average and the venue is nothing special, but trust me on the food, it will exceed every expectation. They serve up monstrous hotdogs because hey, sometimes that’s just what you need. The point of all this is don’t be deceived by appearances, Pub 1905 is a worthy stop… I just wish they’d reupholster the furniture.

I wouldn’t call Pub 1905 «hip» or «happening.» It’s not flashy or glitzy. It seems to be very popular with a mixed aged crowd, and you’ll see a lot of police officers stopping by – for dinner, that is. I suppose they are regulars. The interior is kinda dated like an old sports bar. However, that doesn’t mean the atmosphere is bad: it’s pretty relaxed and the music is at a level where conversation can actually take place. However, if you’re craving good, tasty pub food, that isn’t exorbitantly priced for no good reason(cough, Moxies, cough, Brewsters, cough, Random Chain Restaurant), this is the place to go. And when I say tasty, I mean they have custom-made hand-ground sirloin burgers. My hubby and I love their«Fat Bastard» burger, which is essentially everything but the kitchen sink on top. They give generous portions, and I like having a side of salad with their own custom-made dill sauce. Nice! They also have other funny names for their burgers, and whatever we’ve tried tasted good, but we always end up going for the Fat Bastard. I just skimmed some of the reviews about the food, but when you go to a pub, I don’t think you should be ordering mussels, pasta, etc. Go get the burgers, hot dogs, or paninis. They’re tasty, generous, and affordable.

This is my go-to place for drinks with friends downtown. There’s nothing about 1905 that is particularly amazing, but meets all of my bar criteria. Fairly reasonable drink prices, tasty food, good seating, and a music level that makes conversation possible. I also like it because it’s fairly reasonable to transit home from both for Oliver folk like myself, and for my friends who live near Whyte. I’ve had a few not so great moments here, but overall things are pretty good. My only complaint is that they won’t let me make reservations for a group, and so sometimes we end up scrounging for tables. They also put goat cheese on a hot dog. Yum.

I really like this place. Great location on Jasper Ave for those nights when you’re just not feeling Whyte Ave and want something a little more mellow. The space itself is really quite big, with lots of tables and booths and a few pool tables in the back. The crowd is mixed — young and old, after work drinks or a late night — and has never been rowdy or obnoxious when I’ve been there, and the music isn’t too loud that you can’t talk to you buds across the table. There are some TVs playing sports. I always go at night, but I remember going once for lunch long ago and it being very busy. I’ll have to agree that the food here isn’t the best. I’ve only eaten a couple of things here. I’m a salad freak — I had a 1905 Salad here once and was pretty disappointed with it. I’ve also had pizza, which was alright. A friend of mine ordered mussels once, and they were surprisingly good. I wouldn’t write off the food here totally — it isn’t great; I wouldn’t go here for dinner, but a snack with a few beers isn’t out of the question. Drinks and food are reasonably priced, service is good most of the time, and I really like the atmosphere here.
