When I first started working in the downtown core, I have always heard from co-workers and strangers alike how amazing an experience it was to get your hair cut at Headlines. One more than one occasion I’ve have ladies grab me by the shoulder and say, «Listen to me, if you ever get the opportunity to have Sandra or Michael cut your hair, then you MUST do it at least once in your life. It’s the most life-changing experience.» I thought it was all a little over the top, until the day I finally sat in Michael’s chair and I finally got it. It’s kind of like meeting Merlin, at least the Disney version anyway, because not only is he incredibly skilled at his craft, he also has the most relaxing energy about him. Considering his profile, he’s surprising friendly, pleasant and down-to-earth. And it feel like this energy sets the tone for the rest of the salon – since most of my appointment are last minute, I don’t always get to see the same stylist twice, but I’ve never had a poor or less than satisfactory experience in terms of cut or service. Everyone is very professional, but pleasant and the stylists really listen to the client and can communicate well, to make sure that both parties are on the same page. This is a very elegant, clean and high-end salon without the pretense, which is not something that you can always say about other services in the downtown area. Prices vary according to the experience of the stylist, $ 45 – 95, the last time I checked. As mentioned, I’ve danced around with quite a few people due to my scheduling, and it does seem like everyone is well-trained across the board. In fact, I find that some of the ‘beginner’ stylists at Headlines do a much better job than the ‘masters’ elsewhere. Also, you get a complimentary head/scalp massage at the beginning of your service, which I’m a total sucker for(Preeti gives the best one, btw), and from time to time you may even get a mini-facial and hot towel treatment. I’m not going to lie, I love all of it! It really is a great way to unwind after work.

I’ve been coming to Headlines for several years and I have never left feeling disappointed. I love the relaxing and professional atmosphere, and the stylists and staff are really friendly. I like different, edgier kinds of hair styles and Mitchell always has awesome ideas for what I can do with my hair. Great salon, highly recommended!

Jennifer has been cutting my hair for three years and I would not trust it to anyone else. My hair is thick(lots of individual hairs) but each one fine, so getting volume and movement out of it is very challenging. Jennifer aces it every time. She also gives me wonderful foils to help the white patches blend in with the grey(sigh) and achieves it with a light touch that looks very natural. Headlines is expensive, but its absolutely worth it to me. I’ll scrimp on many other things first, if I have to, before I give up Jennifer.

I’ve been going to Headlines for over a year and I’ve loved all of my visits there. The staff are lovely and friendly and the environment is very relaxing and enjoyable. I see Lieu and I think she’s amazing. She has lots of great new ideas for my hair and really listens to anything I want done. I’m always looking forward to my next appointment because it’s always such a great experience. Thank you Headlines!

I have been going to Amanda at Headlines for almost a year. And I love her, the biggest thing for me is that she LISTENS to what I want. If I want to stretch my colour out a little longer and get nastier roots, she’s ok with that. She doesn’t do extras that cost me more without telling me, she always makes me aware of the cost before doing anything different. Every appointment I get a little head massage first thing, then a shampoo and conditioner, with another mini massage there.(that’s my favourite part) Also Amanda always tells me about the products shes using in my hair, and if I have a question she doesn’t know the answer to she isn’t afraid to admit that shes not sure. She’ll find out though! Reread the packaging or asking another staff member. Also the Aveda products are great and if you buy on your appointment day you get 10% off, which works awesome for me. I don’t even find it unreasonably priced. I have definitely paid more for worse service and every time someone that I refer there goes I get 20% off my next service colour, cut whatever it is(and they get 20% off their first appointment too). I have refered several of the girls from my work to her and they still go see her, so you know she’s good.

After having gone to a few different places for haircuts, I gave Headlines a try. Headlines is conveniently located in Manulife Place(edit: not Commerce Place, sorry!), has perfect décor, a great atmosphere, and is always impeccably clean. After consistently getting great haircuts and being impressed with all aspects of the salon, I’ve been returning for years. Best haircuts I’ve ever had by far! While Headlines is pricier than what most of my friends(male) pay for haircuts, I always find it to be worth the price, which isn’t bad at all with the student discount on haircuts(available Monday-Thursday). The staff are all very friendly, and the service is excellent. Appointments can even be booked by email, where you’ll often receive a reply within minutes! Give this place a try, you won’t regret it!

Mitchell is a hair architect. I have never had a bad cut from him and he seems to be able to push the envelope with style, in a classy way that doesn’t leave me looking like an animé character. I don’t know how he does it. Hmmm Perhaps sheer talant and his own cool sense of style? What ever it is, he is worth every penny, even at the hefty price of a cut at Headlines.
