I first tried LOCAL out in Kitsilano in Vancouver so I always associate it with beach days and summer vibes. It was probably the last place I was expecting to go on a Friday night, but I was in the neighbourhood after a day of shopping and decided to give it a shot. It was PACKED but it didn’t take long for us to get a table. Once we were seated our server was quick and really friendly. She took the time to ask us our names and talk to us bit before we ordered. When I was unsure which beer I wanted, she offered a taster before making a commitment. I really appreciated this gesture because I don’t tend to drink too much while I’m out, so if I am committing to a beer with dinner, it’ll likely be my only one so it better be good! I didn’t take her up on it and took my chance, and ended up loving it(it was a Stanley Park seasonal beer which was reminiscent of Granville Island Winter Ale which is basically my favourite). I had a burger and it was absolutely delicious. Our server suggested churros for dessert and I couldn’t say no. They were pretty good! It was busy and loud but everyone was pretty chill and there weren’t any rambunctious groups or anything. It’s nice enough inside that you could come here for a girls night or a date but not so swanky that you need to dress up. I’ve never had a poor experience at a LOCAL and this location(though not nearly as picturesque as Kitsilano) lived up to my expectations!

Beer is great, service is great, and the food is great. What else do you need. We had the deluxe burger and a Seasonal Lager(scona gold) and a India pale ale(lone bison). Both excellent. Recommend the deluxe burger for sure and if your sharing they split it on two plates. Awesome!

I don’t know what I expected when we came in here in advance of seeing a movie, but I was actually pretty surprised by the fact that I enjoyed my quesadilla as much as I did while not really liking my soup. Regardless of my food being unexpected(I had low expectations of the quesadilla and high ones for the soup), the service was pretty good: our server was pretty speedy and friendly to our table.

I came here for appies and drinks with my best gf after a failed attempt at getting into a movie… On a Tuesday(oops what was I thinking). I had zero expectations I just needed wine and warmth! I actually was pleasantly surprised by this place. First of all it was PACKED and on a Tuesday and speaking purely from a «wing woman» perspective there were a lot of nice looking people in there. I only say this because I often hear my girlfriends complaining about how over they are of the usual spots and crowds to meet people. Tah Dah! New spot?! Truthfully the service is OK but it’s a sports bar so anybody expecting anything different needs to vamoose. I ordered the nachos to split and there was enough for 4 of us even though we were only 2. The nachos were not at all like bar nachos btw. The way they had the sauce drizzled and the placement of toppings they looked like gourmet nachos, if ever there was such a thing, and tasted even better. I also ended up getting a sangria instead of wine and that followed by another two of those! Delish!

Good food. loved the chicken tacos. and the burgers are to die for(and I don’t even like burgers!) Only rating 2 stars because it’s insanely LOUD in there and I honestly couldnt here my other 3 girlfriends talk! We kept waiting for a break in the music to throw in a couple words at each other! Turn it down a notch or two guys!!!

Great huevos rancheros! I came for lunch but asked for brunch. They said only weekends! But they have the huevos all day. It was really good. We started with the ahi poke which was ok, for the price I wouldn’t get it. The tacos my friend had were amazing too. Such soft tortillas, and the sauce and cabbage was very well balanced. Cool place with lots of beers on tap. Service was a bit off but it was super busy. Very friendly she just missed a couple of things. Try it, apparently owned by earls and Joeys company.

Been once for a beer with a Buddy. Enjoyed the atmoshphere. Menu was decent. Food quite good. Service solid. Certainly worthy of a chance to prove themselves to everyone who’s game!

Came in Saturday at 5pm. I asked for a glass of red wine, the girl gave me wine in a very dirty glass. She didn’t come back for 18 mins… Server came back finally and I told her about the wine. No apologies. I did not want another glass nor any food here because of the cleanliness that was already represented. Terrible sanitation and service. Least to say I am never coming back.

I went to Local on a Friday evening after a movie about a month and a half ago. It was girls’ night out and we needed some eats and drinks after seeing Magic Mike XXL. I had the crispy chicken sandwich and it was delicious! All the other girls agreed that they had delicious food(chicken tacos, 2 orders of fish tacos, and ginger sesame chicken salad). I had tons of fries with my sandwich so we all shared them. Really good idea when you are drinking! Apparently the sangria is good, but I never tried any. I stuck to good ol Crown Royal. This place was good. Negatives– service was a little slow. Sometimes when we wanted a drink refill, we couldn’t find our waitress. But it was Friday night. Also, very loud. Makes it difficult to talk and hear others.

Best fish tacos ever. Crisp and flavourful. Nachos are absolutely terrible. Really dry with almost no ingredients. Doesn’t come with sour cream or salsa(it says it comes with sour cream on the menu but it’s actually a teaspoon worth of drizzle. I asked for sour cream(to try to make the best of the shitty dry nachos) and when I got the bill I found out it was a $ 2 charge. Ridiculous. 50 cents would be reasonable and expected. Anything more than that and I expect the server to mention it when I ask. The atmosphere was mediocre. We waited a while for a server to even come to us and bring menus. It was pretty loud. But it was nice with the doors open and fresh air pouring in. Won’t be going back. Ultimately I found the $ 2 sour cream charge and shitty service to be a deal breaker. There’s better places I could go to eat the same calibre of food.

Really torn between the 3 and the 4 star. I’m giving it a 3 for now… but if you like pub food this really is a great place to check out. It really is a great pub. It’s a happening place, great open space, lots of tv’s, and plenty of space for large groups. In fact, this would be the perfect place for a large birthday gathering. I really liked the menu. There were lots of appetizers and shareable, which is great if you’re like me and prefer to order an appetizer or two instead of a meal. Menu items that stood out to me that I’d like to try in future visits… baja chicken or fish tacos($ 5 each), quesadilla($ 6.5), and the churros($ 5). I seriously love that they have so many different small size plates, because then I can try lots! For my first visit, I went with the tortilla soup, which was delicious, but seriously it had two tiny pieces of avocado. Sorry, but that’s just ridiculous. What is it with this city and being cheap on avocado?! STOPIT!!! I want my avocado! Mmmm k? Mmmm K. I also ordered the drunken chicken to share with the BF. I didn’t think it was anything special… other than fact that the sauce they use tastes exactly like my own homemade ginger sauce. That was interesting. The BF ordered the Ahi Tuna sandwich, which I must say looked pretty damn good, and came with a nice salad. He enjoyed it. The service was fine… you don’t go to place like this expecting 5 star restaurant service. I’ll be back, and I’ll try something else. Maybe I’ll add a star. But if they rip me off on my avocado again…

In the south end running errands we opted to try The Local Public Eatery. My wife had the drunken chicken sandwich, while my mother in law had the fish and chips. I myself opted for the organic veggie burger. As for apps, we had the calamari and yam fries. The food is great. Atmosphere is energized with a great wait staff. Very inviting décor. We will absolutely be back.

I went here for a birthday party on a cold December night, it had probably been a few years since I had stopped in before that. The place was packed to the gills and full of very attractive patrons so I’m a little bit upset that I hadn’t been frequenting it! Service was great, especially considering how busy it was. Drinks were average price and tasted great. Food came quickly especially considering how busy it was. I liked how we could see into the kitchen, the cooks were busy and the space looked great. I didn’t have a full meal so I don’t think I can fairly give 5 stars but those who did eat said that the food was great. I’ll make it a point to come back here soon and find out for myself!

I’ve been to Local a couple of times now, both in the summer and winter. Their patio in the summer is nice, despite being in the parking lot of a Best Buy; you can watch people coming and going, and there are lots of umbrellas to shade the sun if needed. My most recent meal was for dinner on a weeknight and the place was pleasantly hopping. I agree with the other reviewers that comment on slow service; it didn’t hamper my enjoyment of the meal, but things could have been prompter. I find the food to be in hearty portions, and well prepared. I went outside my normal food«box» and ordered a crispy chicken sandwich, with BBQ sauce and coleslaw, and it was fabulous; so tasty, not too greasy and big enough to take half home for lunch the next day. There are lots of TVs for watching sports, and a great drink menu. I’m looking forward to going back on a weekend to try some of the cocktails. Also bear in mind that even when not crowded, it was very loud — don’t head here for a quiet or intimate dinner.

The food and drinks are great, but what really stands out here is the service. I love to sit near the door so I can watch the magic that happens in the open kitchen. The kitchen manager(I assume) does a great job of keeping his staff motivated and in good spirits. I don’t know for sure, but I would imagine that they have fairly low turnover in the kitchen. Kudos to the chef and his awesome team! Let’s see… what did we eat? I had a plain cheddar burger and it was so large I had to take half of it home(oh woe is me…). The burger was juicy and the fact that they use aged cheddar just puts it over the top for me. Absolutely amazing. My date had the Local Burger(I think that was what it was called). It had jalapenos and hot sauce. I didn’t try it, but watching him sweat through it was incredibly entertaining. It smelled great too. The server was great at recommending beer and cocktails, and offered samples of what was on tap.

This was my first time here and I will visit it again. I was a huge fan of OPM and was devastated when it shut down. Then when I saw this place open up I was all MEH. I ventured here with my wife and two friends for an evening of booze and appetizers and I was impressed. The menu was nice and had a great selection of foods. The cocktail menu was well priced and had some cool concoctions. My wife and I decided to split the Huevos Rancheros. I’ve never had this before and we were in a mood for something different, so what the hell right? It was REALLY good. Eggs, beans, salsa, tortillas cheese on a plate? PFFT! What more can you ask for!!! It was delicious and had the right amount of heat. The service there was great given it was a Friday night. Locals will know that South Common is a mad house on weekend evenings. Getting a table anywhere is based on luck and timing. Local was packed but we managed to find a table for the 4 of us. Our server was friendly, prompt and got our orders right. The food and drinks came out at a decent time, I couldn’t have asked for anything more really. I want to head back to this place because my friend Russell said they have great burgers. I have to try one.

The outside patio is great, good for a hot day & they turn on the heaters at night for the cool ones! I highly recommend the the veggie burger for us vegetarians. For the meat eaters I hear the fish tacos are the best in town! If you are in the mood for brunch they have a great menu that runs till 3pm Saturday, Sundays & holidays! Cheers everyone!
