This is my favorite off leash dog park. It’s approx 5K all the way around, so a perfect walk through the trees around the river! There are TONNES of trails that you can walk through, and a few little ‘lakes’ that dogs can cool off in if they don’t want to go into the river. There is also a huge field that the dogs can run through if playing fetch is more you and your little companion’s style. When the river is low there’s a beach for like 200 meters you can walk down as the dogs play in the water. The only negative side is that the parking can get pretty congested when this park is being utilized for races or when it warms up and everyone and their dog(literally) comes out to play! If you haven’t been and are looking for a place to bring your dogs DEFINITELY come here!

This is a beautiful off leash park where my dogs enjoy running across open fields, exploring game trails and swimming in the river. Beware… mixed use park… expect cyclist emerging onto trails without slowing and with no warning. Also, watch where you step, followed three young women with their 4 dogs and no one picked up after their dog. Despite people like this, the majority of park visitors are responsible dog owners and respectful of others. Enjoy.

This is such a wonderful off leash park. This is my favorite spot in Edmonton. Make sure to bring poop bags since the dispensers are often out. Autumn is the best time. The river is crystal clear and I don’t hesitate to let my dog go in. I even wade in with her. The loop around the river is about 5k. Most people just walk to the first part of the river but keep going! In the middle of July, the Saskatoon bushes are ripe and you can pick to your hearts content. This is where I tell people to go when then tell me Edmonton is «ugly». Figure it out people!

I’ve heard nothing but great things about how this one if the best dog parks in the city. However, did you know it has some pretty wicked mountain biking trails? I’ve just started to get into biking and my friends took me here to dirty up my new mountain bike. There are some very cool trails here with a wide range of terrane. The range is from neatly trimmed, clear paths to ones with a plethora of roots on the surface. At times I felt like I was a plinko chip on the Price is Right. Also there are some very beautiful views of the river here. It provides a wonderful rest opportunity from riding to enjoy the view. The mosquitos can be crazy here so bathing in off or deep wood is recommended. The reward is, however, a nice and sometimes wild mountain bike trails with some nice views of the river. Couldn’t think of a better place for a first time mountain biking excursion in the city.

This is probably the best dog park I’ve been to. There is so much space for the dogs with dozens of trails to explore. Only con: on a busy day, parking gets a little crazy. Especially when there’s heaps of snow piled around the lot. :)

This is an excellent dog-park and the one I take my dogs to the most. There is a lot of different terrain and opportunities for your dogs to swim, but do be careful when the river is high as the current can get very strong. If you follow the loop from the parking lot down to the river and along the bank until you loop all of the way around again I think it is about 3−4Km. The parking lot can get pretty crowded on nice days. You will come across lots of dog walkers, mountain bikers, and runners/walkers here.

Our dogs go stir-crazy when they need a bit more exercise, and this is just the spot to cure it! We were last at Terwillegar Dog Park last summer and couldn’t handle the mosquitoes. We went a little earlier(in the late afternoon) today and LOVED it! There were plenty of dogs(and trash cans were ample for picking up). The worn path leads straight out to the waters edge where there were both dogs and humans wading in the river. The two suggestions for improvement would be more facilities for humans(There’s a port-a-potty near the parking lot) and a way to better separate the parking lot from the off-leash park.(Keep your dog on a lead until you’re in far enough if there’s concern…) We’ll definitely be back!

Great place to spend a couple of hours on a hot afternoon in Edmonton, with or without dogs. This is a multi use park area; a dog off leash, a hiking area, a canoe launch point from the river bank, and an area for bicyclists to get some riding in in the trails. I bring my pooches down for a walk along the trails, some doggy interaction(aka a lot of butt sniffing!), and a nice swim in the river so that I can have that lovely ‘wet dog smell’ embedded in the fabric of my JEEP forever! It is a great outing for the dogs and I always meet some new people and we get the chance to gush about our fur babies!

I once read that Edmonton has one of the best off-leash dog parks in the world, and that several European countries contacted our city’s government asking how it managed dog parks. What a great compliment! I am sure that most Edmonton dog owners are in the know about the existence of Terwillegar park, and know that this place is the best for walking dogs off leash. My parents recently adopted a dog from Edmonton Humane Society, and I have been taking her for walks quite often. She seems to enjoy Terwillegar a lot. There is a lot of open space for running around, and there are lots of other dogs to make friends with. This park is not too shabby for humans either, especially during spring and summer. Lots of trees and sunlight; there are numerous walking trails and an access to the river. This park may not be the greenest in Edmonton, but it is not without its charm. This is a wonderful place to meet new people who are friendly and eager to strike up a conversation. I have never seen anybody picnic at Terwillegar park which is logical because firstly, there isn’t really any place for that, and secondly, there are so many dogs running around that it would be impossible to eat without the participation of our four legged friends. P. S. The park is meticulously clean, if you know what I mean.
