My go-to bar when I’m in Halifax. Great place to drink beer, watch the game, and grab something to eat. They have $ 5 breakfast special, daily deals, and delicious pizza slices. For daily specials I strongly recommend Sliders Mondays and Toonie Tacos Tuesdays(a tongue twister!). Wonderful service and free WiFi. Check it out if you are in Halifax.

Foods not too good but wow is it cheap. For $ 6 you can get bacon, eggs, hashbrowns and toast. That’s cheaper than BK or Mcdonalds so you can’t expect much when it comes to quality. If you’re looking for a cheap breakfast place this is it.

It’s a warm and cozy spot just off of Spring Garden. I usually go after catching a movie up the street at the Park Lanes Cinema. Drinks come quick and food is good. The atmosphere is too loud and the waitresses are a little unfriendly. There’s a great seating area in the back that’s usually quieter. Best times to go are during the day or week when all the university students aren’t in there yelling. Only real complaint is that several times my drink came with fruit flies in it, and had to be returned — ended up waiting half an hour for a single drink.

Though I did not get anything there They were very hospitable. It was my friend’s bday and her and her group loved the drinks and food there saying that it was awesome, hopefully we weren’t too loud The waitresses and bartender were AWESOME and real sports about me making a custom drink for my friend and giving it an extra OOMPH with an extra ingredient. next time I come in I need to try the food.

I’ve never had anything from the frog that wasn’t stellar. I also really like their philosophy of no fried food it makes me feel like I was healthy even when I ate a whole large nachos by myself(no apologies). Their thunder mugs are phenomenal value and a sight to behold. I don’t know if it’s just the thunder mugs talking but it seems that the waitresses here are consistently above average in attractiveness

I had a frozen blue margarita. It just tasted like water and vodka. It was also kinda gritty. My husband had a massive beer that was pretty cheap. We also had slices of pizza which were really great. Pizza was really cheap too. Caesar salad I’d pass on next time. Chopped ice burg lettuce with a glob on dressing on top. Restaurants that don’t premix their salads before they serve them drive me crazy. I think if you stick to the basics of what they’re known for, beer and pizza, it would be really good.

For this visit I tried the Mozza Chicken Burger. The Fickle Frog is easily one of my most visited places in the city. I love the laid back nature of the restaurant/bar, and I have really enjoyed the beef burgers that I have had there. It’s safe to say that I wasn’t overly pleased with this burger, but given the track record of my previous visits, this was just a bump in the road and I will definitely be back again.

First time here so I am writing this as we go. As we walked in we were welcomed with a curtin of smoke. Obviously from the kitchen that is not very well ventilated. Sign says to seat yourself so we walked around to find a table. Thought about sitting at the bar and found the seats to be not very comfortable and heavy to move around. Decided to move to a table behind us. Server was quick to see us and asked for drink orders. It took over 7 min to receive the drinks. It was Halifax Burger Week so we got 2 burgers and a few items from the menu. While waiting the smoke is still in the restaurant and is starting to burn my eyes and nose. Looking around more at the atmosphere I don’t know what kind of bar this is. There is no specific theme. It feels crowded but there are not that many people here. The décor just doesn’t make sense. Also the place looks dated and has moderate cleaning standards Still while waiting we noticed a few of the other customers not having a good time. Seen one burger get sent back and one table just leave after getting water(might have been the smoke). We got our food. We ordered the same burger but it looked like we got 2 different burgers. The garlic fingers and mac & cheese we not that good. The smoke is burning my eyes so much that we didn’t finish the food and just wanted to leave. I’m very uncomfortable at this time. Total cost was little over $ 40 but I don’t think it was worth it. The second I step outside my eyes are feeling a lot better. I don’t blame the staff. They seemed pleasant and had a smile. I think the owners and managers don’t care.

I’m not overly impressed with the atmosphere, but the regular drink and app deals are amazing! Love taco Tuesdays here! I was here this evening for their first crack at being a burger week participant. I would say it was a success! The burger was delicious! Two thumbs up, plus cheap beer on tap.

After a trying day working at the library nearby I decided to meet my hubby at the Fickle Frog for a late lunch. It had come highly recommended by some friends who live nearby. It was also on my list of restaurants to visit for burger week, but I will not be back. The place is narrow(at the front)! It’s actually a really strange setup for the front area. Nevertheless, we decided to grab a table up front, but the patio doors were open a smidge and it was bloody cold coming through there so we moved towards the back instead. We were seen immediately for drinks and given menus. I ordered a Stella — although, I wish I had looked and realized it wasn’t draught. There’s something to be said for draught Stella. Oh well. I ordered the chicken burger with potato wedges. There are no ordinary fries, which is a shame because the wedges were really not good. They were undercooked with too much firm potato inside and the outer seasoning barely browned. The chicken breast was well cooked, and the seasoning on it was not bad; however, it could have easily been pre-packaged chicken from its appearance. The bun it was served on was fantastic! It was squishy and the perfect size for a burger like sandwich. I had really been looking forward to the garlic aioli, but it was barely garlicky and more mayonnaisey than it should be. Unfortunately, the sandwich continued downhill with a soggy tomato and sad, wilted, browning iceberg lettuce. ICEBERGLETTUCE! I get really frustrated when restaurants do this. You are not McD’s, don’t use shitty lettuce that has(1) no flavour,(2) no nutritional value, and(3) no presentation flair. That was it for my meal, a few poorly cooked wedges and the sandwich. There was no garnish, which is really not necessary, but for a paltry serving on their long plates it could have filled out the emptiness. E ordered a plate of nachos. He was going to get the large, but I talked him out of that and he got a small order instead. Good thing, the portion for a small nacho was really large! There were a lot of jalapenos on it. In fact, I’ve never seen a plate of nachos with that many jalapenos before. I really had to laugh at him for forgetting to ask for none because it took actual effort to pick them off, haha. They use a good sturdy tortilla chip, but they put all the toppings in the middle so the cheese did not get properly melted where the majority of everything was placed resulting in a congealed mass of slightly warm cheese. There was a lot of naked chips at the end and not enough salsa or sour cream to deal with them. Apart from one visit from the waitress after dropping off our food, in which both of our mouths were full, we were not visited again. We both ran out of water and were not offered refills, nor was I offered another beer. That said, the small exchanges with our waitress were extremely pleasant, I’ll give her that. It was not busy in the least, so I think we should have gotten more attention than we had. The tables were clean, as was the washroom, although it could use some updating to the fixtures. Like I said, I won’t be back, but you feel free to give it a shot. Maybe you’ll have better luck than we did.

Got snowed in at my hotel and was hungry for Italian food. Discovered right around the corner The Fickle Frog! It was all you can eat Lasagna night(every Sunday). The Lasagna was excellent with lots of flavor and cheese. Laura, my server, made sure I never ran out of food as she was very attentive throughout my dinner. Enjoyed the music too! Oh, the kitchen is open until 1:45am :)

The food here is pretty good –there are some gluten free options, including a gluten free dessert, which is a treat. The waitress was very patient with us, and a good sport. The food took a while to come, but it was a busy night, so that could explain it. I like that they have outdoor seating, though space is tight on the patio. Overall, not a bad place to go, if you’re looking to spend $ 15 – 20 per person.

We went to the Fickle Frog for Sliders, Pizza and Sleemans beer, around 1:30 pm, so no busy lunch crowd. The place was dead. It took about 40 minutes to get the food. The pizza crust was soggy, and we received literally 13 potato wedges on our plate, and the food was lukewarm at best! Pathetic! We paid for our meal and tipped the waitress about 20%, complained to the owner who have us a $ 25 certificate to give then another chance. We went back a few days later, …same, poor service, skimpy portions, over 1 hour to wait for a burger and a slice of pizza!!! Cold, soggy, flavourless food!!! Don’t bother with it! Go across the street to «Your Fathers Moustache», much, much better in every way! Much friendlier waitresses too!

I dont know if it was just a fluke night but i went and the food was disgusting. I ordered mussels and they were so raw and undercooked i actually spit them out. My friend also was not satisfied with his food. He ordered the chicken wings and didn’t even finish them. Sometimes things go wrong and it could of just been a bad night for them but I haven’t returned since. Service was good they recooked my mussels for me and didn’t seem to mind. It was very busy when i went so it was a little slow but that is to be expected.

I was pleasantly surprised. This has always been a sort of dodgy-looking pub on a busy street. The small façade and few outdoor seats make it look like a low-grade boozer. The view inside isn’t much better, a long, dark corridor of a bar. I was here because it was lunchtime and I was hungry and in a hurry. The menu had a special of a sandwich and soup for something super reasonable, like $ 8. The sandwich was a chicken club wrap(quite tasty) and the soup was curried apple! Yes, there was much more attention paid to the food than I expected in a place like this. The beers were cold, the service was friendly. I shouldn’t have judged this book by its cover.

Wow! for the location, taste, and AMOUNT of food you can get for the price… 5⁄5! It was a lot spacious than it appeared from outside. However it was still lively and full of people having fun. Try their garlic fingers… I hope you have enough room in you!

Although I will probably still come here to fight for a chair to enjoy a giant beer on their roadside patio this summer, it no longer is a place that I enjoy frequenting on a regular basis. My favorite bartender no longer works here, and her replacement simply does not cut it. I went to the Fickle a few times after the change, hoping to enjoy my experience as much as I had in the past. Its just not the same. She is cold, quiet, and simply does not inspire me to belly up to the bar and spend my hard earned money. Being able to make a cocktail does not a good barkeep make. Sometimes a smile, conversation and a little bit of customer service go a long way. For me at least. I’ve gone from being here a few times a week, to not wanting to go here at all. I still love the pizza, I get it for take out. Most of the other staff are great, but I just can’t bring myself to call this«my bar» anymore.

I’ve been going to The Fickle Frog on and off for several years now, from back when it was Gatsby’s to its current incarnation. While a lot has changed, a lot has stayed the same, for both the better and worse. On my most recent visit, my girlfriend and I were just looking for a quick bite to eat before seeing a movie at Park Lane. Luckily there was still a little space on the patio, which is one of my favourite in the city simply for its location at street level on Spring Garden Road and the quality of people watching which that gets you. I wasn’t feeling like a pile of pasta or pizza, so I decided to try their sliders, five little burgers with mayo, onion and pickle. I also added cheese to them because really, you can’t go wrong with adding cheese. Except when said cheese doesn’t come. Womp womp. The burgers themselves had the mushy texture of frozen patties, and I probably should have known better ordering burgers at a pizza and pasta place. They weren’t particularly enjoyable, but they filled the void. I also regretted ordering the side salad instead of fries. Unfortunately for me, my guilty health conscience lead me to a sad little salad of limp lettuce that was noticeably browning and came barely dressed, with no extra dressing on the side. The meal above was two stars at most. What does earn the FF some points is the aforementioned awesome patio location and their fairly well executed pizzas and garlic fingers, as well as their beer deals. Being a Sleeman fan, I enjoy that their beer deals are often Sleeman-specific, instead of Molson like many other bars in the city which have exclusive Molson deals. *Gag* While not as cheap as it used to be back in my university days, their Wednesday pitcher of beer and pizza deal is still good bang for your buck at $ 20 and the pizzas are nicely done here. Shakers of parm and chili flakes are a nice touch as well. If you do come here and stick with the pizza and beer items, you’ll do just fine, but if you stray from that course, you’re entering a mysterious land of sub par food.

This was the first time I visited this location since the redesign, so I was eager to see what the place was like. I decided to order the 8 inch pizza with a Caesar salad and it was fantastic; the pizza was not too greasy and the salad was not overdone with Parmesan cheese like the Niche Lounge. I asked for a little jar of ranch dressing for the salad and this was free of charge and the pop refills were also free. The service was very good, the price OK, and I did not have to wait too long for the meal, although there were only a handful of people in there for a Wednesday night. The bathrooms were clean and I particularly liked the back part of the Fickle Frog as they turfed the pool table and went with a more contemporary design. My only piece of advice is to avoid sitting close to the entrance as you can feel a draft from the outside; even so, I will definitely come back in the future as I’ve heard there is a half decent atmosphere there on the weekends.
