It started out as a lovely evening… little did I know the terror that would ensue. Let me preface this with the fact that I am a good Christian woman… who deserves nothing bad in life. Anyway, I came to the Ale House looking for fries. and fries alone. What I found was ugly MEN… bad music by Halsey who single handedly destroyed my life(but that’s another tale for another time…) and… no…fries. I have become morbidly depressed because of tonight. I hope no one has to go through this kind of heartache. I hope the ale house(more like stale house) rots in hell where it belongs. FYI the beer is shit

Fantastic Irish pub in every degree. I decided to come here with a work colleague and enjoyed every minute of it. A kickass Irish pub has a warm chalereuse feel to it somewhat like you are going to a good friends home. Its also a good place to come get your drink on. An exceptional pub is one whereby the menu matches the awesomeness of the beer selection. My selection of drink for my visit was a nice propeller IPA. A fantastic local NSIPA. Lightly hoppy and crisp to the taste yet smooth. For my meal I decided to go with the pub style curry and chips. What arrived was a delicious blend of chicken curry served with mushy peas over some fries. It was so delicious I’d describe it as a chicken curry poutine minus the cheese. The mushy peas were a nice touch to add to the dish. With a pint it flowed down the hachet quite well. Overall if you are in for a drink and a wonderful meal from the old country then this is definitely a top notch place to head to in downtown Hfax.

Man i love this place. Its very consistent. The SERVICEISALWAYSAMAZING aswell as the food. Everytime I’m there I see managers rolling around making sure everything is going smoothly. The beer on tap is always crisp and cold. They have an upstairs bar aswell which is quite nice with a projector screen for soccer/sport games. You can come to this place with whoever. This place is a good place to bring the family and most definitely the bomb spot to crank some beers with the boys. They also have live music quite often, good experience evrytime.

I have a thing for Irish Pubs… You can’t eat as good a meal or drink as perfectly poured an ale than in an Irish pub. From the outside, The Old Triangle looked like a lively place and boy was I not wrong. The first thing you notice going in is the noise. If you want to have a conversation, you’ll have to yell and this is the spirit of an Irish Pub. The food was awesome, the beer was awesome, the musicians were awesome. Sure, the place is in the touristic area so there are a lot, and I mean a lot, of tourist but everyone feels at home there. The age range was from 20 to 60 with a majority of people well over 40 but I didn’t care. It is an Irish pub and everyone is there to have fun.

I loved this place!!! I would have given it five stars but there were a few things I would have changed. I loved the environment and the private booths were so great that was definitely one of my favorite things! The service was a little bit slow. We had the mussells for a starter which were great then we had lobster and scallop linguini. I really enjoyed but in my boyfriends he found a hard white thing that looked almost like a tooth and then there was a lobster shell in his as well but he still really enjoyed everything and the beer was nice and cold. So if the food mistakes hadn’t of happened and service was a little faster this would have definitely been a five stat for me! But we will definitely be going back :)

Amazing! It was the first time I enjoyed everything about my meal in a long time. I just found my new go to spot. First I would like to say that I love restaurants that have a theme. It’s an Irish pub thats menu reflects that. You know the food is going to be good. When you walk into a place that serves Chinese, mexican, italian, and American you know that the quality of the food won’t be great. Out date night included bruschetta, curry and chips, steak sandwich, bread pudding, and Guinness gingerbread.

Of the 15 or so pubs I’ve been to in Halifax, this is one of my top two favorites. Good location about a block in from the harbor, and walking distance to all sorts of other pubs and eateries. The Old Triangle is a very lively place, and often very busy at night when people come in to watch the live music. Like any self-respecting pub, they have multiple levels and rooms where you can sit, eat, and drink. There is some small amount of outdoor seating, but most of the seating is inside. The décor is Irish-themed, but not over the top«Irish kitsch». This place has a happy, well-used feel, and looks like many pubs I’ve been to in Ireland. If you like music, laughter, and a little noise, you will feel right at home here. The night we stopped in, the first music act was a solo singer/guitarist covering a variety of hits from the 60’s to the 90’s. He was very good and did not sound like a solo guy. After that was a local duo doing Celtic /Country music. They were also quite good. They have a full bar, a good beer selection, and all the drinks our group had were well made. We did not try the food, but saw others around us eating and their food looked and smelled good. Service is very good, and the servers are very adept at getting around even when the place is full and the music is going. They made sure our glasses never sat empty. Their drink prices were a wee bit higher than surrounding places, but not out of line for the area. Well worth a visit if you are in Halifax

Great Place! Live music every night. If you are looking for guitars fiddles banjos flutes and pipes, this is the place for you. They had a session tonight with 2 fiddles 3 guitars, 3 penny whistles, Celtic harp and Irish pipes! Cozy Celtic decore. I had lobster and scallop linguini. Spectacular! Bartender was super nice. Highly recommend.

If I had an endless bin of money like Scrooge McDuck ala Duck Tales that I could just spend with abandon on whatever the hell I wanted, every year on my birthday I would purchase a plane ticket and fly to Halifax just to have the Guinness Gingerbread as my official birthday dessert. I would order three or four of them and gorge myself silly until I had a serious Guinness and gingerbread hangover, but it would all be worth it. Every last crumb and morsel. I would even lick the warm, boozy, caramel sauce right from the dish like a rabid, banshee dog. Yes, I adore The Old Triangle. We stopped in here for dinner while visiting Halifax. It was a gray, foggy night. I felt like I was stuck in the middle of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner poem until we sought refuge in this cozy pub. The vibe was like a festive, ye olde, Irish inn and I totally dug it. Now back to the gingerbread. The heavenly gingerbread … The Old Triangle boasts that the Guinness Gingerbread is their signature dessert and I can totally understand why. It’s the bomb mutha-fo of all things gingerbread. Move over gingerbread latte from Shitbucks. It’s the queen mother of desserts, at least for me, anyway. Living near New Orleans I’ve had the privilege of indulging in some outrageously fantastic desserts in my day. Whiskey bread pudding and bananas foster. Sweet potato pie and crepes Suzette, but NONE hold a candle to this gingerbread. If you’re strolling through downtown Halifax and you’ve already had dinner, at least make a detour and stop here for dessert. You won’t regret it as you leave in a state of Christmassy, gingerbread nirvana. What makes this gingerbread worthy of a three paragraph, overly gushing review on Unilocal is: gingerbread in general can be bland at times. Sometimes it’s like eating sawdust grazed with a cheap hint of cinnamon. The Old Triangle’s gingerbread however, has a nice, spicy kick to it. After all, shouldn’t ginger be snappy? I used to have a dog named Ginger and she was definitely snappy. The Guinness adds a robust richness making it a rather dark ginger cake. The cake itself is fluffy enough where it doesn’t sit in your stomach like a rotting brick of lead. The warm, caramel sauce merged with homemade whipped cream aids to the epicness of this dessert masterpiece. Definitely make sure that your gingerbread is soaked in whipped cream and caramel. Nothing tastes better than warm gingerbread when it’s saturated with cool, milky whipped cream. [Faints]. Another kick ass thing I totally dug about this place was the French press coffee. La-tee-da! I’m on the fence about whether or not French press coffee is really better than normal coffee, but having coffee presented to you in a French press makes you feel special, like you’re some big hot shot. Hook me up to an IV of it, please. The menu is a tome. A tome of pub fare badassdom. They have everything from pizzas, sandwiches, burgers, steak, hummus, pastas, even freakin’ lamb shank and Shepherds pie. If you can’t find anything to eat here than you’re just too damn picky. The gluten free and vegetarian menus are impressive. Instead of one or two selections you actually get your own chapter in the tome. They have loads of options. I had the Kevin’s Celtic burger(vegetarian). It was huge, fresh, and oh so yummy! What I really appreciated about it was that it was a real, honest-to-God, veggie burger. Not some sodium laden, frozen, black bean crap that restaurants keep stashed away in the back pit of their freezer just to appease the whining vegetarian hippies. This veggie burger is lovingly hand made like a piece of art, and topped plentifully with yummy scallions and Tzatziki. Delish! They also have sweet potato fries and curry dip. Who doesn’t like sweet potato fries? If you’re one of those I-love-Ireland people you’ll definitely adore this place. They have Celtic music almost every night to go along with their Irish theme. This week they have Fergus O’Byrne(now there’s an Irish meets Harry Potteresque name for you). I would love to hear his music and have another piece of my delectable, oh so amazing gingerbread!(Sigh).

Wow… what a fun place. I’ve had the chance to visit pubs in the US, England and in Ireland and The Old Triangle Ale House has a good thing going. Great food and beer selection, live music, good service and a super location. I wish I was a local as this would definitely be one of my hangouts.

Put shortly: Best pub food ever. Beside that nice and friendly staff that show a real interest in their customers. They take their time to take orders from the children who are there with the family… I had the haddock with broccoli-beef soup on the side. The haddock was fast-fried with little crumb and very little oil, so tender and juicy. And needless to say, the fish was fresh. The soup was heavenly with generous chunks of tender meet. A bit spicy, but that’s not a cover up for poor ingredients. The food is all fresh. I also had a corn chowder for the first time in my life, and I promised myself to go home and search for the recipe! By the way, the coffee is French press and comes unpressed. Give it a couple of minutes before pressing. And… On Sunday afternoon they have live Irish music and dance. That was a beautiful experience as well. All in all, great experience. Highly recommended.

My first visit here was many moons ago and it wasn’t very good(sticky tables, meh food, disappearing server). This visit was a vast improvement. After wasting 15 minutes at a certain seafood restaurant waiting for a server to acknowledge us, Mike and I went across the street to the Triangle with now only 45 minutes for lunch. Even though it was busy, a server came by right away with menus and took our drink order. I like the layout of this resto. Much like the Auction House, it’s multi-level with lots of seating. The menu has good variety and prices are reasonable. Unfortunately, with so little time left for lunch I had to ask for my fish & chips to go, but it wasn’t their fault. The server was apologetic and brought me my lunch with all the fixins. I hurried back to work and Mike stayed to eat his fish & chips, which were really good. I got roasted potatoes with mine, and they were perfect. The fish was delicious and not too greasy. Mike’s fries were great too, and they honestly looked great. Next time the Triangle will be our first stop.

*************TIP************** If you don’t like Celtic music, turn right and walk. Eventually you will find a smaller quieter room far away from that god awful noise. This was close to my hotel. I wasn’t pumped on going, but whatever. Nachos were great, beer was good. Service was great. Steak. Ommmmmmmmmmmm noooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. OMG. Expect drunk people and noise.

After being unable to meet up with work colleagues about a week ago, I wanted to head back to the Triangle as it had been over a year since my last visit. The fact that my place of work is now just a 2 – 3 minute walk from the Triangle helps as well. There is usually a good atmosphere during the lunch hour, so I made it a priority to get there before noon and find a good table as the place fills up pretty quickly. The Triangle is unique in that there are three levels; however, it still has that warm, cozy feeling that is sorely lacking in some establishments. Our server arrived promptly and we ordered; my friend went with the 1-piece fish and chips and I decided to go with the sausage pizza and a glass of cranberry juice. The food arrived in about 15 – 20 minutes and it was pretty good; my pizza was slightly spicy, but I was warned ahead of time, so that falls on me. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the Old Triangle, even though it had only been open for a little over an hour, you would have thought it was a fairly new pub. The bathrooms were adequate though they did have those annoying air fans instead of the paper towel dispensers. If you’re looking for good service, reasonable prices, and a nice atmosphere where you can sit back and get away from the pressures of everyday life then this is the place for you.

This stone-walled Irish pub is a perfect place to have some mussels and chips and pints with friends. Or, you could be like me and order their $ 10 white wine flight. I know what you’re thinking and don’t worry! It *does* come with it’s own wine-holding candelabra! Fewf. It also has a street-side patio, live music on the regular and hunger-pang causing pub grub. You think you’re just there for beers, but you won’t get out without a snack. Or five. Sociable!

I had been here for drinks with a group maybe a decade ago, but have little recollection of the place other than it being busy and noisy at the time — your typical pub on a Saturday night. The place must have about thirty indoor tables and is divided into three rooms basically, all about equal in size, all with two or four seater tables or barstool tables. Very standard atmosphere with lots of beer signage and Irish items galore. Outside, there is a line of maybe seven or eight tables along the Prince Street side(good for later day sun), and a handful on the Bedford Row side(good for lunch, if you want sun, that is). Fast forward to present day. 1st recent visit: On a mostly cloudy Wednesday at noon, there were a few tables taken in the lower of the rooms, but since I had a book, I opted for a quiet table by a window in the corner of the upper room, or the section they call the ‘Snug.’ Was greeted immediately with friendly service. Ordered the Celtic burger(Hand made vegetarian patty, topped with tomatoes, basil, scallions, grainy mustard, tzatziki & pickles, comes with fries, $ 13) — which was not bad and definitely satisfying. The tomatoes kept falling off so was a slightly messy eat, but overall good and a little different than most veggie burgers I’ve tried. 2nd recent visit: 4−6pm on a nice, sunny, 20-ish degree Tuesday. Same standard friendly service. Sat on the ‘afternoon’ patio amongst a few groups who seemed to have spent the better part of the day there with some kind of beverages, and who were a little on the cheery side. Ordered the Paddy Fernandez nachos which were decent.(I consider myself a nacho expert and I’ve yet to find a favorite in this city besides my own, but some are definitely better than others and these are acceptable). 3rd visit: a beautiful Monday at noon on the Bedford Row patio. The waiters seemed a bit rushed this time trying to keep up with a flock of random tourists, but service was still fine without any long waits, etc. Ordered the Tomato Basil Spaghettini(Grape Tomatoes, spinach, garlic, fresh basil and a hint of red chili, with a side of garlic foccacia) which was good. I hesitate on ever getting big pasta meals when having to go back to work and sit at a desk all afternoon, but this plate was filling without giving me excruciating pains or a major carb crash/nap requirement. Most recent visit: a sunny cold February Friday for lunch. My partner & I sat in the lower level by the door and it was busy. He says the Omaghtown Football Club($ 14.50 Classic– chicken breast, bacon, lettuce, tomato, Cheddar cheese and mayo) was quite good. I had the Kitchen Sink Wrap($ 13 A staff favorite for years, our slaw with tomato, cukes, dill pickles, spinach and hummus), which was very fresh and a good healthy choice for a pub. However, I couldn’t see or taste any hummus, only a touch of mustard. So will most likely be back at this place, with others for drinks though, more than food. ·

great little irish place. The staff is very nice and fun. We sat out on the patio. even with the cars it was a good experience and not distracting. I had the curry and chips… not great… not horrible and my friend had the Shepards pie, the portion seemed tiny but once he finished he was satisfied. The beer is very reasonable my only draw back was wishig they had some acadian music or any music playing for that matter.
