Drove by this winery this afternoon. Front driveway gate closed. Sign on the gate says closed for the season. Another states you can buy their wine online. I get its early. Other wineries are open and are offering tours. I guess it’s because it’s only ever of the smaller ones. Will come back in the summer sometime.

Gorgeous LEED Platinum tasting room with panoramic views of vineyards and lakes. Friendly staff. Not a huge number of wines, and the tasting is comparatively pricey(3 for $ 3, waived with purchase), but absolutely worth a visit for the views alone.

I wasn’t all that impressed with Tantalus. Despite all of the amazing reviews it has gotten I thought it was average. Perhaps it was the feeling that I was in a concrete box, or maybe it was because it was off season and they only had a few bottles open. Regardless, I wasn’t all that impressed. The staff were nice enough and the wines were pretty good but that’s it. Nothing spectacular, I didn’t hate it… just didn’t fall in love… that’s okay right?

This is the best winery in Kelowna. All their wines are excellently made. I don’t think there’s another winery that manages to excel across the board as Tantalus does. When we have out-of-town visitors, this is the only must-visit winery. The view is pretty good, too.

The Tanalus winery and tasting room in Kelowna overlooks mountains, terraced vines and Lake Okanagan and the tasting room has a view that can almost stop your heart. Gorgeous. We had shorter tasting here of about five wines, and focused on the splashy, light and crisp: riesling, rose, pinot noir. The tasting room staff were polished professionals, giving guidance and sharing information without the heavy hand of a marketing and sales push. Elegant and modern, just like the wine. I got pretty lucky here to get in a quick conversation with some of the winery staff while admiring the simple, whitewashed and modern architecture of the Tantalus facility, and heard the story that Canadian architect Bing Thom originally put in a bid and design specs for the winery project here, a design that turned out to be beautiful but unrealistic for the setting. The ultimate builder? A local with a background in building industrial facilities. The LEED certified winery space reflects that aesthetic in the best ways: simple, beautiful, modern and practical. This is a wonderful modern hillside setting with floor to ceiling windows is a great spot to taste crisp, light wines(particularly the riesling) with welcoming, polished and friendly staff. A good tasting experience in the Okanagan.

Tantalus was our first stop on a day of wine touring over the long weekend in Kelowna. It was easy to find and has a great spot up on a hill with a super view of the city. The facility is pretty new and has huge beautiful windows so you can take in the view from inside and also enjoy any art on display. For the tasting I tried their popular Riesling, which I found deliciously crisp, the Rose, and the Pinot Noir. I would say that the Riesling was quite good and well-suited for my tastes — not too sweet, but smooth going down. We were helped by two individuals(forget their names, sorry) that were pleasant and answered our questions without issue. I don’t believe tours are available, but tastings are available throughout the day for $ 3, but it is waived if you purchase a bottle. Definitely give this one a try on your way down to the wineries on Lakeshore Drive!
