Tried out this place on a freezing(–25*c) winter day for lunch while visiting Kingston. I had the westcoast melt with poutine. The hubby had the feature sandwich the cannonballz(a take off the meatball parm in sandwich form). We also tried the roasted red pepper soup. Overall the food and service was great. Both sandwiches tasted awesome. Bread was perfectly crisp on the outside but still chewy on the inside. Lots of melty cheese, just they way we like it. The soup was also fantastic and perfect on such a cold day. This is great comfort food. They also have a variety of spicy ketchup sand hot sauces for those that need the extra kick. The only thing I didn’t like was the poutine. The waffle fries are decent by themselves. But I am generally more a fan of regular fries. The gravy for the poutine was too tangy tasting. I prefer a richer flavoured gravy(New York fries style). So I would skip that next time and maybe just go for the soup or a salad in the side. All in all I will return the next time I am back in town. Definitely worth a visit if grilled cheese is your thing! Loved it.

Fantastic grilled cheese. Owners have since expanded into Ottawa and other areas and the quality of the original shop has suffered slightly. Don’t let that stop you, as it’s the best grilled cheese you’ll get around.

Tried the westcoast melt grilled cheese sandwich with waffle fries on the side. First off, the fries were AH-MA-ZING!!! So crispy on the outside and yet so soft on the inside. The sandwich was pretty tasty too. However, it was hard to get over the amount of grease that it was bathed in. By the end I was feeling a bit queasy. If only they could cut that down slightly, I know the sandwiches would be SO good! Too much of a good thing can be bad sometimes. Don’t get me wrong, they’re still delicious, just too heavy/greasy for my liking(but some people may like that and to you I suggest trying this place hands down!).

I loved grilled cheese sandwiches if they are done right. Crispy, greasy, pillowy with a perfect combination of sweetness and saltiness. This place makes great grilled cheese! I decided I was feeling rich and went all out for their lobster grilled cheese. It was amazing! Incredibly savoury, incredibly satisfying. Huge chunks of lobster, crispy bread, a little bit of sweetness and a little bit of saltiness equals heaven in one bite. It was a little pricey I must admit but it’s worth skipping dinner for. Definitely check out this place!

Probably the best grilled cheese I have ever eaten. I have seen this place multiple times while shopping on princess street but never ended up eating in. Recently, after going on a tour of queens, we were very hungry and decided to finally try it out. They have a huge selection of options. They offer their signature sandwiches or you can make your own. I made my own with sourdough bread, pepper jack and American cheeses, chicken, jalepeños, and red onions and it was AMAZING. They also have lots of options for dipping sauces, which was great because I don’t like plain ketchup on my grilled cheese. We had franks, spicy ketchup, and pepper ketchup. Both ketchups are house-made and delicious, however I preferred the spicy one. They also serve waffle fries which were very good. I personally prefer regular fries, but these waffle fries were crispy and well seasoned. You can also get them as poutine. If you are ever in need of a meal while in downtown Kingston, make sure to stop at mltdwn!

Began with the cheese lasagna grilled cheese. It was by far the most amazing grill cheese sandwich we’ve ever had. And we have had a lot. We also had the grilled vegetable sandwich, which was just as good. As everyone says, the waffle fries were delicious. As was the pepper ketchup. Especially given that it was a hot day, I was especially pleased that the place was licensed. It was a little bit pricey for two sandwiches and a beer, but honestly worth it due to the excellent quality.

Great grilled cheese and the waffle fries are amazing. Usually come here before heading to the alibi next door(they allow outside food inside!) They also serve beer if you are interested!

Really good, but too expensive. Two sandwiches and a pint for over $ 30.

An interesting place that specializes in grilled cheese. I tried the Mac and cheese and it was ok, I wouldn’t get it again though if I went back. The waffle fries were really good though!

Today we were trying to decide whether to try a new place or to go back to Harper’s. Which was a very hard decision to make! But I’m very glad we gave this a try. I ordered the pulled pork(it’s on their signature menu) with a waffle fry poutine(poutine is probably one of my favourite comfort foods). My boyfriend got something similar with a caesar salad & drinks. This rang up a whooping total of $ 30.18! I would say it’s worth it. I would definitely make some changes and possibly make a custom sandwich next time– but for my first time I was impressed. If anybody does read my reviews they know I can be a picky person & have a somewhat sensitive texture palette. So the cons were: my waffle fry poutine wasn’t very hot(temperature wise), my bottom fries were drowned in gravy(usually a good thing, but they were so very soggy), and I like super saucy pulled pork so I was dipping my sandwich(not necessarily a con). Overall I think it’s a great place, with great front counter service. I just need to find my way to my own favourite sandwich(Mac n cheese maybe?). So I recommend you go and try these guys out & embark on the journey to your favourite tasty unique grilled cheese sammich! I’ll keep you all posted on my search for the best combination of cheesy, meaty goodness. Maybe then I’ll be more helpful, haha.

A great place to grab lunch while downtown in Kingston — tasty, relaxing comfort food that’s good for a quick lunch with friends. My second time dropping by was on a blustery November for lunch with my boyfriend. We got there, and stood staring at the menu for about 5 minutes, unsure what to order. The friendly counter attendant suggested we try the special, which was a holiday meal-style sandwich: turkey, stuffing, gravy, and cranberry applebutter to dip. He also suggested the roasted red pepper tomato soup. I opted for the soup and a Jalapeño Rancher: chicken, bacon, cheese and jalapenos, while my boyfriend went for the special. We grabbed a seat in the small seating area — they were playing music from my junior high days, so aside from the traumatic flashbacks, I was pretty happy. The seating isn’t that comfortable, though — metal chairs with cushions at small tables… they’re working with the space they have, so it’s just a statement more than complaint. Our meal was ready in about 10 minutes. Not bad for a sit-down meal, bit a bit too slow to consider this a fast food lunch. We were offered pickles with our sandwiches as we grabbed them from the counter, which I’d recommend, since they went well with both sandwiches. We shared our sandwiches, and both were great. Toasted perfectly, with lots of filling and fresh ingredients. The Jalapeño Rancher was perfectly spicy too, with enough kick. The special was fantastic also, and the cranberry applebutter was really complimentary to the flavours, so bravo to whoever came up with that one. I would also recommend the soup — a decent portion, and very good… it would be perfect with a simple grilled cheese for dipping. Although a bit pricey, I’d still come back, and certainly recommend this place to anyone looking for lunch while in the area.

For those driving by Kingston Ontario, this gem is less than 5 kms from the 401 and is DEFINITELY worth a stop! Between the four of us, we practically ordered 60% of the menu in one sitting and we are happily stuffed in a food coma! From the get-go, MLT Down’s theme was apparent and consistent throughout the cute little shop; from it’s interior design of its 17 seater shop to its attention to detail and quality in its food — it’s gourmet comfort food at its best! The service was excellent — Ali and Rahim were very friendly and professional(owners?); both obviously very passionate about their food and providing only the very best to their customers! Their hospitality and energy definitely had us hyped for the food to come. We ordered: — the lobster sandwich — delightfully filled with lobster that you can actually see and taste! The Brie and cheddar was perfectly balanced with the lightly seasoned lobster; it was perfect on its own or dipped into the Roasted Red Pepper Tomato Bisque. It was a little taste of lobster cheese heaven to the very last bite! Mac N’ Cheese Grilled Cheese Sandwhich — my 6 year old’s favorite… Are any explanations necessary? Heck even my husband and I snuck a couple of bites it was so good! Pulled pork grilled cheese — my man’s favorite sandwich there. The sweetness of the caramelized onions and the tang of the house BBQ sauce + the jalapeño jack & the aged cheddar on a sourdough = one AMAZING sammy!!! This was my second favourite… But my number ONE fave from MLT Down so far: The Beef Brisket sandwich. I’m not a fan of beef because I always find it dry but THIS — WOW! The sweetness of the caramelized onions, the rich flavour of the JUICY and TENDER beef brisket accented by the garlic TRUFFLE mayo and arugula held together with melted gruyère and provolone cheese on rye — OHMY! For dessert, we HAD to have both the s’mores and the chscake and trust me — my sweet tooth was definitely not disappointed!!! The trip here would’ve been worth it just for the desserts alone! A definite must try for all of you driving by kingston, ON.

I was very much looking forward to this place after seeing it on You Gotta Eat Here! There was a fantastic selection of gourmet grilled cheese as well as create your own. It was a welcome surprise to see waffle fries on the menu. I’ll definitely be heading back the next time I’m passing through town. The only knock against it is the portion size. It’s perfect sized for lunch but if you’re very hungry, you might be better served going a few doors down to The Works.
