This is supposedly one of the best hotel restaurants in Lake Louise so we had high expectations. First off, the staff is friendly but the overall ambience is pretty snooty. Many of the employees are from other countries who have obtained a work visa to try out another country for a while. Our server seemed nervous and in a rush or overwhelmed, moving table from table. She talked is into trying the appetizer special, but it never arrived. 45 minutes after waiting we asked where our appetizer was. Two people came out to say our main dish would be out in about 10 more minutes. We tried to explain we ordered an appetizer & were waiting on that. Both people didn’t seem to understand what we were saying. When our server arrived we asked about the appetizer and she said she forgot to write it down so the kitchen never knew about it. She apologized profusely. We were okay with that, but let’s move on to the entrees. I ordered halibut with quinoa. The quinoa(about a quarter cup serving) was so salty, couldn’t eat it. The halibut was fresh but nothing to write home about. We eat a lot of fresh seafood and feel our home dishes are better prepped than this. My boyfriend ordered the bison. I love bison, so I had a few bites off his plate. Bison has a distinct flavor and lightness that I love, but this one was heavily laid in sauce. Not necessary for good Bison! It’s a shame. Our desserts were mediocre. My boyfriend ordered the chocolate mousse and I had a berry tart. The tart was a bit dry. The meal totaled about $ 200 Canadian with tip. Not really worth it. This hotel also has a pub restaurant. I wish we had gone there instead. Sometimes big fancy places get high reviews even though they miss the main point — quality, great tasting food. I bet their middle of the road restaurant is far better.

Pretty good, but be ready to spend some serious dough. If you are looking for unexpected menu options, this is the place for you. Lobster bisque — OK. Duck/rabbit appetizer rolls — pretty tasty… but a lot of gamey meat. Wine — quite expensive. I don’t frequent five-star dining establishments, but my boyfriend and I enjoyed our dinner here.

A group from the Austin Skiers & Boarders had a birthday dinner this past Monday while in town. The food, service & ambiance was absolutely outstanding! We could not have asked for a better time. Our waiter Jeff did a splendid job from the selection of white & red wines to pair with our food to providing timely service. We got a bonus courtesy of Sandy Best of Ski Canada who arranged a private tour of the wine cellar. Wow is all I can say! What a splendid collection of wines. If you come to Lake Louise regardless where you stay, you absolutely must dine here! Have a drink in the bar first though. Thank you for such a fabulous dining experience!

OK, let me be fair, some people seem to love it. However, to the other reviewer who mentioned something to the effect that after dining at The Bison, this was a huge disappointment; YES! THANKYOU(virtual high five)! My condolences as well sir. I know… it hurt:(Sometimes…food takes itself too seriously, or tries to be too serious. That is the only way I can explain it. Was it OK? Yes. If I was from somewhere else(not NYC), had much less food experience and didn’t know and passionately love food so well myself, would I maybe have been excited about my meal here… perhaps. People’s experiences I have learned seem all too subjective, therefore why listen to me. I don’t want to be too hard on the place. The people were VERY nice, it was a romantic snowy night and the place is warm and cozy(though we will talk about the«stage lighting» above the tables later) Now with that said, I am sorry but 1. Lets be clear it is NOT fine dining. I have eaten at Daniel(that shares their prestigious wine award on the wall) and THAT my friends is fine dining, not this. So If your ever in NYC and don’t mind dropping half your rent(or your entire rent for that month depending on where you live) for the experience I will say that it is worth it #2. The price is not at all justified. Not. At. All. As mentioned, the Bison was my best meal in Banff and it was 1⁄3 the price. And #3 I still cringe looking back on the 3 lobster tortellinis appetizer that was served with a weird creamed spinach like slimy sauce. All I kept thinking was«why???» I don’t get it. As for the blaring light above each table(as someone else mentioned as well). Again… please tell me WHY. It kinda kills the romance :/It is SUCH a pretty place with the white branches on the ceiling strung in soft white christmas lights. But the gigantic, and I mean gigantic light fixture adorned in cloth over my head turns the place from the potential to be sexy and romantic into grandma’s house. Noooooooooo. NO! Honestly, I do not like to write negative reviews because food is someone’s art, However money is not easy to come bye for most. When you spend it, the last thing you want is to have regrets. Especially when on vacation, you don’t want to feel as though you wasted a meal/evening when you could have enjoyed one better elsewhere. Time and money are invaluable. So it’s only fair. For comparison purposes; If you were to ask me if the bill at the end of our meal at Daniel stung a bit, yes it did. BUT, I do not regret it. It was an experience and the food was incredible. So clearly I don’t mind investing in amazing experience. So if you are a true foodie, and you know food well, no matter what anyone tells you… don’t do it. We got suckered, against our own instincts, by people telling us how«amazing» it is. And maybe to them it was. Who knows, perhaps it was a really off night. But I have to agree with the other less than enthused reviewers. It was a miss for us. They do have a perfect little bar/lounge area by the fireplace, that to tell you the truth I would totally go to and enjoy a nice glass of wine(which we did do after dinner, I could not resist it was just so idealistic with the snow lightly falling out the window). But as for the food, I would just pass next time. Maybe if they would get rid of the blaring lights, lowered the prices and stopped trying so hard to perhaps be a restaurant they are not. Just cook some really damn good food, don’t try to make it «fine» or worry what it’s called, THEN perhaps it can be wonderful. It’s frustrating when you see something with so much potential, but have to wonder what they are going for. Hope this helps :)

Came here with my wife and stayed for a few days on my way through to Banff. I was not sure how it was going to all turn out, however I think this little boutique is one of my favorite hotels now. The room we had was a loft and the living room had a full fireplace and living room setup. We were greeted with a bowl of fresh fruit and a very clean room. At night we had a fire in the wood burning fireplace. The hotel is very close to town, but not too close so you really have a quiet and peaceful experience. The staff and service at this hotel is top notch. There was always a service person close by ready to assist in any way. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a five star experience. It was one of the most memorable experiences on our two-week trip and really made our vacation.

I took both my parents here after not having made any dinner plans for the day. We walked in without having made a reservation and were greeted with a friendly maître d’. All the entrées and plats were very well prepared. Amongst us, we had foie gras, lobster bisque, bison, caribou, and black cod; We all though each other’s dishes were cooked superbly. I also had their crème brûlée which I thought was either a bit overcooked or had too high of egg to crème ratio. Oh well. The waiter was very attentive throughout. Also, 1 of the 2 proprietors of the hotel visited our table to make sure our experience good moments before I was about to pay and get up. I wasn’t expecting this much attention, but Indeed the experience was great. I highly recommend this restaurant to those who want a fine dining experience at Lake Louise.

This was the best dining experience we had while staying at Lake Louise. We had been disappointed with our stay at Fairmont Château Lake Louise and dining experiences. This restaurant deserves the 4 star rating the hotel boasts and we were blown away with their food, amazing service and ridiculous wine menu. It is worth nothing that their small hotel bar is cozy and has a vintage lodge feel to it with a crackling fire, moose head over the fireplace and excellent cocktails and wine. Definitely hit up this small gem before and or after dinner. My wife had the Halibut and I had the veal. Both were unbelievable. This is a must go dining experience for anyone wanting fine dining in Lake Louise or Banff areas.

Both positive and negative experiences in our one dinner here. We were really pleased that there is an entire vegetarian menu, and the two pastas we ordered were incredibly flavorful and delicious — basil lemon risotto with steamed vegetables including several types of mushrooms and a mushroom ravioli. The cream of tomato soup of the day was also great and it was a big portion. The other soup we ordered, chilled cucumber, looked and tasted like a small portion of pickle juice with a dollop of snow in it. It was $ 21 for a very small bowl and it tasted. just fine if you like pickle juice. The ravioli portion was also very small, just three raviolis for an entire entrée, no sauce. The meal came to $ 95 and we were still hungry after. Our server was curt and forgetful. He initially brought the wrong entrée — a shrimp risotto, despite our only having looked at the vegetarian menu — and also took so long to get the dessert menu that we ended up finding him and just asking for the check instead. Definitely no special treatment for a honeymoon dinner, but even for no occasion there should be better service at such a pricey place.

We were sent to the Post hotel when our hotel’s restaurant was not open for lunch. We found this restaurant a little more upscale than we were looking for, but the service was very good. The food was very good. It was very comfortable.

If your ever in the Lake Louise area and wanting a great dining experience, you must try this place. It’s the most delicious restaurant on this side of town. I ordered the caribou, my fiancé had the bison. We order the lobster and caprese salad for our appetizers. Service was top notch.

We had 2 dinner in Banff, one was at Evergreen which was a total disaster, the second one was Bison. While Bison was good, the food we had there was not quite at the level of this place(only the marow escargot was a big hit). We saw the menu online and it had all the stuffs that I like, so we had to try. Biscon Carpaccio to my suprise was not the typical pound to paper thin prepartion, it came out in thin slice like ¼ inch thick, I was worry it would be chewy but it was not, it was sear on the outside and raw in the inside. Fore gras was awesome but I had better elsewhere, I think it’s just the fore gras itself was not the superb fore gras, it melt a little too soon. Albert rabit was awesome, usually the tenderloin would be overdone but it was just barely cook thru, so it was still soft and moist. The rabit was really really good. Bison tenderloin was also prep perfectly, the green pasta that came with it was also superb. The next day, after reading the menu in the morning, I said we had to have lunch before we check out. Lobster bisque was fasntastic, although I never had a ravioli in lobster bisque before, interesting. The veal osso buco was delicious, really really good. The saffron risotto with scallop was also done perfectly, scallop was not over cook, center just turn from opaque. The risotto was not drown in butter, just done right. All the food was somewhat influenced by German, French and Swiss, as we ate, it keep reminding us traits of flavor, taste, presentation, etc of food we ate in those 3 countries, very European. Wine menu was outstanding, you don’t see a lot restaurants with same wines but different vintage. Dinner services was very good, very professional, gave us a lot of «antique» restaurant feel which was a good thing. However, lunch services was kind of disappointed, I think they have traineer/intern instead, the attention to details were diminished, totally different than dinner service. It’s not quite a 5-stars but since I couldn’t give 4.5 and the food really made up the miss.

Best caribou I’ve ever had. Very good rabbit and bison too. Salad with passion fruit sauce is very interesting and amazingly good with the salad. We didn’t stay there but went for dinner. Pretty good experience. Great service.

Yes it’s a big splurge and yes the wine is expensive but come expecting that and enjoy. First have to mention the service which was top notch. The manager Mario and our server Joshua were both so solicitous and warm. Joshua had great suggestions, is a master sommelier and so recommended some wines for us and they were the best wines I’ve had. No I’m not a connoisseur but those wines were smooth and flavorful. Yes pricey at 60 – 70 per half bottle. But not like we eat there every day. Then he suggested some dishes bc we wanted to eat tapas style so had trio of salmon which was fresh and delish then had crab salad which was small but crab sweet. Also had lobster risotto which was perfect with chunks of lobster. And the ravioli yes only there but we were full. Full with wine mostly. And then we had mousse for dessert which prolly didn’t need. To top it off after dinner Mario gave us a tour of the cellar which was an unexpected treat. Overall since it was for my moms bday we had the best time and just enjoyed. Go there and don’t fret over prices and drink some stellar wine.

VERY cool!

The consummate dining experience. The location n outside of the building is unassuming. But set 1 foot inside and you are transported to European luxury. Tastefully decorated for the Christmas season the staff is very attentive. My wife had the tasting menu. I started w foie gras(amazing) and the veal Zurich. It was the best veal I’ve ever tasted. The Swiss chef knows how to make the Swiss dish — tender morsels w mushrooms in a sauce that got better w every bite. My wife, normally avoids game but she lived the caribou. If you go ask to see the impressive wine cellar organized as only the Swiss(owners) can do. We thoroughly enjoyed this very special occasion.

Great service and food. A fancy hotel dining room with pricey but excellent dishes. I came for both breakfast and dinner and enjoyed dinner quite a bit more. Breakfast wasn’t anything too special. They have a great wine selection and a great prix fixe menu. The only thing I wish that they had with the prix fixe dishes is wine pairing. Almost all fine-dining restaurants that I’ve been too(and not to fine-dining) had an option of alochol pairing with each dish. I was a little disappointed that wine pairing was not an option and when asked what type of wine would work best with our menu, we just got a very broad answer that turned into«what type of wine do you like?» For a place with great wine selection, I expected detailed information about the type of wines that would pair well with my dishes. Nonetheless, we just picked a bottle that we knew we would enjoy. Service and food were both great other than that. Really enjoyed the foie gras on top of the beef tenderloin.

Not really the best experience my family and I have had at a nicer restaurant, but the food was excellent and the wine list was amazing. I ordered crab legs for appetizer, lamb chops, and panda cotta for dessert. The lamb was really really tasty and tender, but the eat was difficult to remove from the bone… Meaning it wasn’t cooked the right way. It came with some sort of cabbage salad that was almost the best part of the dish — if you’re a cabbage fan you should try it! My dad got a trio of meats for his main course: bison, elk, and caribou. All 3 were cooked perfectly and tasted really good. This dish was definitely the best one best one. My sister had the stroganoff, which was good for not being my mom’s homemade stroganoff. We’re pretty picky about stroganoff because of that… But this one could actually compete. However, it was REALLY salty, and as much as I love salt it was too much. It also came with spaghetti, which I didn’t really like. Lastly, the wine cellar is amazing! They have over 25,000 bottles — almost all of them are wines worth tasting at least once in your life time(according to my mom who is a certified sommelier). It’s a really cute restaurant and everyone’s friendly and makes sure to take care of you. If you stay at the Post Hotel you could eat dinner here every night: P

We didn’t get to sit in the full dining room because we made the mistake of mentioning that we’d come late«for a drink» even though we intended to eat as well. We were shuffled into a small bar area, which was very nice and cozy. It had comfy couches and a warm fireplace. It also, however had a couple enjoying a romantic evening, and as a larger group we felt like we were intruding, and it was clear that they felt that way too. We got the drinks menu which seemed a little expensive, but looked good! I was also starving– they had a menu of half a dozen things. I ordered the quesidilla with no peppers. 15 minutes later the waitress(who was not very accommodating & was wearing clothes that showed off her midriff-classy) came back and said that my meal could not be made without peppers as the quesedillas were PREMADE. This place is charging $ 18 for a quesedilla that they made god-knows when. It takes approximately 2 minutes to throw one together– I know, I do it all the time. There was nothing else appetizing to me, so we skipped the food even though was starving, and eagerly awaited our strawberry Margaritas. The Margarita was delicious– but the glass was less than half full– I’d say about 1⁄3. Considering the price-I thought they were joking. Nevertheless it was delicious– clearly not from a powder mix! All-in-all, I will not be back.
