I would love to love this place but honestly it’s prices are a lot higher and they serve these massive rolls that you can’t fit in your mouth. Good Japanese rolls, sushi etc., should be the right size to eat without having to chomp through seaweed. It all tastes very good and is very fresh, but their rolls are ridiculously hard to eat and end up slopping all over the place.

We went for dinner tonight. California rolls had rotten avocado, beef teriyaki was so oily it wasn’t edible. I let them know about the beef teriyaki(very oily) & burnt tasting. She asked if I would like another one & I said yes please less oil. She comes back and cook apparently says minimal oil was used and won’t make it again. Waitress said sorry which i think is bull****. The other guy came over and said I will take off 10%. Wow big deal. I left and didn’t tip. I won’t be returning! Jun sushi is ½ the price & very close in quality & never will u get rotten avocado.

Best sushi I ever had. The key to their success is that they never put anything in front of you that is not fresh. Seafood is not to be messed with, and these guys do it well. Of course the price matches the service

Huge portion sizes does not automatically mean great quality. Hirame has been hit and miss as of late on a number of their dishes. Today I we ordered a Spicy Combo and a 20 Piece Assorted Sashimi. Hirame has, yet again, updated their menu but these two items have maintained the same description from previously published menus. The sashimi was fresh and there was no smell but the pieces were not cut well. The slices were clean but the pieces were so huge. They were honestly three-bite pieces. Where there were three pieces they could have easily cut five to six more decent sized strips. This actually made the sashimi less enjoyable. The Spicy Combo was again made too big. Not only were the cut large but they were not rolled tight so when you picked up the large, cumbersome roll it simply fell apart. However, the nigiri that accompanied the rolls were cut perfectly… so the ability to cut fish without hacking it is there. The Miso Soup was right on. You know when you have soup and you can tell it’s old? Theirs was really fresh. It wasn’t bitter or pungent at all. Lastly we’ll look at the cost. We have a menu in the office that’s about two years old that we’ve been ordering off of and if there has been a difference in cost it has been minimal. My jaw nearly hit the floor when the server told me the final cost. Old price: Assorted Sashimi — 17.95, Spicy Combo — 13.95(Total 31.90). New price: Assorted Sashimi — 29.95, Spicy Combo — 15.95(Total 45.90). Think twice before ordering here. It’s definitely the best that Brookswood has to offer, but better sushi is only a short drive away.

I’ve never wondered into this part of BC before; a client of mine whom I was meeting on Sunday evening invited me over to Hirame for dinner and business talk. At first I was expecting«just another sushi joint like several in Vancouver»; I was wrong, VERYWRONG. My client ordered a «drunken tiger roll», a shiitake mushroom and crab appetizer, and another fancy roll whose name I cannot remember(I mean, they only had about 100 specialty rolls on their manu). The restaurant is nicely decorated; while boasting a Japanese-flavoured décor, it also has a slight touch of modern feeling to it. It is also well organized and clean. The sushi bar where all the fresh fish and sushi ingredients are stored is also very clean and organized. This is a good sign because a good chef always make sure the ingredients are treated with respect. Did not have to wait too long before the Shiitake mushroom appy arrived and it was nicely presented. The mere first bite blown my mind! It is composed of real crab meat(not that pollock stuff) and shiitake mushroom; however, the mushroom tasted nothing like you would expect from a normal shiitake. The chef transformed the mushroom enough that it actually tasted like awabi(awabi = abalone, a very expensive and yet delicate shellfish). I would strongly recommend this dish for people who enjoys awabi. Soon after we devoured the appy, the two orders of rolls came. At the first glance they are a tad bigger than some other placed I’ve visited. The taste was fantastic I must say. The special spicy mayo on one of the roll is my FAV! Unlike other spicy mayo I’ve tasted, their spicy mayo has a slight, but bright citrus kick to it. Service was friendly and prompt. I regretted not showing up to my business meeting with a completely empty stomach so I could have tried more of their creations. I will certainly recommend this place to folks who live nearby or wouldn’t mind travelling a bit for good food.

We eat in the restaurant more than we take out and usually enjoy the food and atmosphere. Some of the rolls are way to big and require 2 or 3 bites which wouldn’t be bad if the seaweed was of better quality and not so chewy. Overall a pretty good meal for your dollar both in flavour and quality.

A few friends have raved about Hirame, so I was keen to try it. We picked up takeout and headed to our favourite picnic spot nearby and when we opened the containers, we were immediately disappointed. The California combo consisted of an enormous Cali roll and two each of salmon, tuna and ebi nigiri. The nigiri were also extremely large, clumsily assembled and without any wasabi between the fish and rice. I would rate the fish quality at adequate. Sushi is meant to be small amounts of rice garnished with various toppings. A single nigiri should not require three bites to finish. If you are looking for large amounts of food at a reasonable price, Hirame may be for you. If want high quality, artfully prepared sushi, look elsewhere.

My Mom lives nearby and we both love to go to Hirame. They have some really good Japanese food. I often compare other sushi places to Hirame. The location has parking shared with other businesses, the restaurant itself is smallish but has a bright and relaxed atmosphere. The sashimi is fresh and delicious, the rolls are nicely done(with the specialty rolls looking like little works of art), appetizers are yummy and the service is usually pretty good(I say usually because when it gets really busy, they might forget to check on you, but you can easily flag someone down). I would consider it a little pricey, but the quality is worth it.
