My teenager nephew didn’t ask for a novel or game book; he wanted an educational history book for Christmas. I was so happy. Then I realized it was impossibly difficult to find a decent selection to browse and choose. Costco, Walmart and the like carry mostly trendy bestsellers, or classic children fictions. To find a good selection of non-trendy books, one must visit a bookstore. I guess many can say this is not a pure bookstore. No, this Chapters is not in the league of World’s Biggest Bookstore. Yet WBBS doesn’t exist no more. There is no point in living in the past, and thinking that a brick-and-mortal bookstore of a decent size can survive on book revenue alone. So I much appreciate that, amidst candles and gifts, and shelves after shelves of fictions, there are several full bookcases of history books, even a quarter of a bookcase of mythology books.

One of the bigger locations around and has a great selection! Unfortunately I can never find anything I want. Staff: They are friendly and usually I can find someone easiIy if I wanted to. However, every time I get on a computer, staff will swarm in trying to help as if I was infantile. While I think that’s great customer service, I don’t see why if I use the computer catalogue I automatically need help. You’d figure I’d need more help if I was staring at a bookshelf for 10 minutes rather than clicking through a screen for 1 minute. Other than that odd thing the staff are here are great. Store: Although they are well stocked in popular novels, I can never find any reference books I need. For example I wanted books for my Europe trip and they weren’t available here. I could always request for an order but I like looking at them before I buy them. In addition, the agenda and notebook section always appears to be in disarray. Granted, I usually come in the afternoon after they’ve been open for most of the day. I know some people are all about the books, but I enjoy the other merchandise they sell and it is always on my list to go to for holiday shopping. An added bonus is the Starbucks in the store. I still think it’s a great store for books and the odd décor and stationary.

This is the best Markham Chapters /Indigo in my opinion. I grab my Starbucks coffee inside the store and start browsing. I always seam to leave with something other than my coffee. I bump into sales associates throughout the store(which is rare these days due to cost cutting) and they always ask if they can help and are eager to make recommendations. This is a large location with a lot’s of older titles, not just new releases. The store is not crowded, you can walk between aisles without feeling cramped. There is a huge magazine selection. I often stop by for my weekly copy of Barron’s newspaper. They have newspapers from all around the world. Also a big children’s section. They usually have 3 – 5 cashiers so the check out is always quick. BK

This is one of the better locations for kids. Their children‘s department is organized and we stocked. They have plenty of toys for kids to try out. The community that comes out to the store is also nice.

Sometimes I’m not sure what’s considered as good customer service or pushy sales associates. I’ve been to many Chapters and each time I’ve visited, a sales associate has never approached me offering help. I have always actively searched for staff when I required assistance. Accustomed to this type of service came the familiar reoccurring nonchalant, carefree Chapters affair each time I walked through their door. Maybe this is why I was irritated each time an associate asked me if I needed help when I was on the computer. In reality, isn’t this good customer service? Undoubtedly, I was looking for something hence why I was on the computer. The excuses for my anxiety: — it was an off-day — hunger — I was a library helper in grade school I now commend this location’s customer service. They offer service that is rare to any other Chapters I have been to.
