The Barley Mow

Had their Mac and cheese. It’s made with gnocchi and includes a bunch of veggies like peppers and mushrooms. Honestly, it was awesome but a. very small portion. Came with a garden salad (meh) and focaccia bread (stale. LOVED the Mac,.though.
Boyfriend had a burger and said that it was decent.
My dad had the fish. and chips and loved it.
Everything was pretty pricey, about ¹⁸⁄₂₀ per dis.
The menu was relatively boring and dated in my opinion, more variety is needed, and some more exciting dishes.
Our waitress was nice and the décor was alright.
Okay place but nothing to write home about

When your there the bartender named Buzz is amazing he was super attentive and great socially.
We ordered the triple app deal which works out for the money and it is all delicious.
The atmosphere at this location is much more welcoming and homey compared to the Kanata location although there is no patio.
All of the staff seem super happy to be there and are all vey friendly. Lots of TVs around for watching games.

This place gets four starts for the atmosphere and service and the kick ass cocktail I had. I didn’t sample any of the food, so I’ll have to come back. The thing is, this place made me want to come back.
I’d been here years before, but I had only a dim recollection of it being a decent pub with live music. Happily, they still have live music, and the guys who preformed were adorable and fun. This is absolutely an older crowd — a great place for Barrhaven residents for sure, and the band catered to them. They sang a lot of Blue Rodeo, Van Morrison and other jams my parents would have been glad to sing along to (let’s be real. I sang along to all of them in my head and some out loud while my date was in the bathroom — classy.)
I ordered the raspberry ice tea which was essentially iced tea and raspberry vodka but it was dangerously delicious — the perfect mix of the two! I was sad to see they didn’t have any local beer on tap, but my partner in crime made do with Keiths. Our waitress was sweet, if a little over attentive… that being said, we were there for about 3 hours, so I can’t fault her for it.
Other than the live music and intimate atmosphere, I probably enjoyed myself so much because of the company. If I was there alone it might have been less charming, but I’ll have to go back and see. If I was a Barrhaven resident I would absolutely frequent this place if only to get to know the middle-​aged dudes in the band — I want to know if they practice in their garage that most certainly houses a minivan.
Oh, BBQhaven.

Three stars for the beer on tap. This is a nice bar. Don’t go for dinner. This is a pub.

The food has improved greatly as they introduced a new menu recently. There are many creative new choices that allow you to venture out from typical pub fare. The burgers are still excellent but they now offer some interesting open-​faced chicken sandwiches and lots of other main courses.
The fish & chips is better than ever and goes for half price Mondays; burgers half price on Tuesdays. They have both been perfectly prepared and served with delicious fresh (not dark brown) fries recently. I will have this again but can only hope they do not change anything!
Where they fall short is the service and the interior décor and layout. It seemed novel when it was first built but the «Lord of the Rings» design is in need of a makeover. Many of the tables are awkwardly placed, facing high traffic areas, bright floodlights or next to dirty windows, so it can be a challenge to find an intimate setting. The patio is nice though.
The servers are nice enough but often overlook you when first seated. I also do not believe they are trained in all the products they serve and how to properly serve them. For example some of the girls do not know anything about beer, even after working there for several years. I have also had to specifically ask the bartender to pour a certain type of beer slowly so I don’t end up with a glass that is 30% head and 20% empty. He also seemed to give preferential treatment to his regulars or friends when I was seated at the bar.

Went for dinner and a pint on a Friday evening. Beer was cold and served in a clean glass. That’s about the best thing i can say about it. Food was marginally better than what i would have eaten at McDonald’s. Had some nachos for an appetizer, and they were stale and tasteless. Had a wrap for dinner and it tasted more like cardboard with some canned chipotle sauce. I will not be going again, or if i do, I’ll make sure to eat first

Forgetable, that’s all I can say about this place. The food is dated and patio décor is worn out and dirty, although the interior is nice and suited well for this type of pub. I haven’t written this place off yet, but it’s a place I rarely visit.
