I popped in this place for the first time a few weekends ago. It was so surprising. I am not a coffee drinker and ordered a hot almond latte. It was delicious! So wax the piece of shortbread. If you are looking for a coffee shop with a variety of selections, great atmosphere and unique branding, this is the place for you. We are heading back to NOTL today and this will definitely be a stop for me again.

Always great to find in a small town like niagara on the lake that they still have a local coffee shop the isn’t a «S» word. The cappuccino was well worth the line up(almost outside) and the art work to look at while waiting was amazing. You can see why the place was busy.

A small chain of coffee shops with very high quality coffee and pleasant staff. Worth a visit before/after theater events.

The atmosphere is excellent for such a small shop. A couch is made out of repurposed suitcases and art nueveau dominates the walls. My espresso was very good, on the citrussy side. The service was very good too.

Ein süßes kleines Coffee! Getränke und Gebäckauswahl lassen keine Wünsche offen. Wir haben sogar veganes und glutenfreies Gebäck gefunden! Lecker!!!

Quick coffee with the wife. I picked up an americano and the wife got a citro boost to drink. They were both were quite tasty and reasonably priced. We also both got the carrot cake. It was very good with lots of flavor and not too sweet. A little pricy for the size of the piece but still felt worth it.

Espresso done right. Wide variety of drinks. The Citro Booster is fantastic! Friendly staff! Pat is the best! Unique & calm atmosphere. Definitely recommend this coffee shop if you want something different than Tim Horton’s or Starbucks.

As I am a big fan of Toronto, Balzac’s is one of my favorite little gems of a visit to the city, so it was a wonderful surprise to find one during a long weekend at NOTL! This shop was especially quaint and has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere to it. Our barista was so friendly and kind, representing the best of Canadian hospitality. i got my Parisian Mist(sooo much suaver than a London Fog), and my boyfriend got his coffee – both were delicious! We picked up some Balzac’s merch on our way out(a mug and some postcards). I’ll definitely be back during my next trip to NOTL!

The latte I had at this NOTL outpost of the Toronto chain was a solid 8⁄10. Good to excellent. Haven’t noticed any other indie coffee shops in this tourist ridden town, but if you are craving a decent coffee that isn’t from that American chain then this is your spot.

Quaint little coffee shop in the center of town. Across from Prince Wales hotel so stopped in for a quick pick me up. Small set of seats to the right but they fill up quickly. The lattes seem decent and a solid selection of expected coffee shops accoutrements. Love the selection of milks for additions. Horse drawn carriage pull up across the street.

Pretty good drip and barista coffee and treat options and good Patio and indoor seating available. Just around the corner from the Main Street and nice to see a local shop with good options available

BC and Starbucks are the only coffee shops in Niagara. Pro tip: go here! I should have bought a poster when I had the chance. Oh well, gives me an excuse to come back!

I’m not a local, but they had decent coffee and pastries. It was also the only place I could find open at 7:30 on a Saturday morning. Maybe everything was closed because of the parade?

If I were to sum up Balzac’s, it would be a quaint, old-timey lookin’ organic café…’cause that’s what it is! As per the labels, from the beans to the milk, it seems as though everything is either organic &/or fair trade. In terms of their drink menu, there were some unique offerings as well as the familiar favs, renamed. For example, they did have a pumpkin spiced latte that wasn’t called Pumpkin Spiced Latte. Price-wise, on-par/slightly more expensive than SB. I ordered the Nordic Latte(with cardamon) and it was just over $ 5 with taxes. Bro ordered an Americano and it was smooth, smooth, smooth. Setting is soo idyllic and charming! Think: Gilmour Girls. A definitely must-stop if you’re in the Historic part of NOTL!

Great coffee if not the best and more selections as of late in the organic section and the usual funky atmosphere. yeah its off the tourist strip which makes it more special to enjoy a cuppa in this cottage or house i did cruise though on a trip to buffalo just for coffee as i refused to have a fast one at a drive through dont be a dummy and forget to buy some beans for grinding at home

Divine espresso, fast friendly service, pretty and bright seating area, great hours(opens at 7!) meant this was a mainstay for us during our visit to Niagara on the Lake. Also, had bronchitis at the time, and their lemon citrus hot drink was a fantastic comfort! Best coffee in town. Got up early and walked from our inn to fetch it!

The coffee is fantastic and the selection one has to choose from is even more impressive. It’s a great place to get away from crowded streets surrounding it. They have plenty of options for vegans(brownies, cookies, etc.) and they taste fantastic.

Balzac’s is cozy, and warm. The coffee choices are great and I happened to meet the owner/supplier for Harmony Organic Milk, who happened to be there from Toronto and checking on his vendors. It had an Art Deco feel and the desert and snack selection was basic but made of quality. They do have the same feel as the other locations in The Distillery and in Liberty Village. Great coffee shop.

Was walking by this place and had the sudden realization that I needed some more coffee. Went in to see what they had And was glad I did. A wonderful selection of fresh roasted whole bean coffee’s was there for my choosing. Noticed immediately they tended to roast on the darker side which is right up my alley. Went with a Celebes Kalossi, from Sulawesi Indonesia, and the Peru Penachi as I never heard of it before and wanted to give it a taste. Read a bit more about Balzac’s and see they«micro-roast» in 20lb. lots. To me that sounds as fresh and good as it gets. Will have to run some through the old French press to enjoy. Going to definitely pick up some more next time I am up here too.

Balzac’s Coffee is located just off Queen Street the main touristy area across from the Prince of Wales Hotel in Niagara on the Lake. I love the set up of Balzac as there are some outdoor seatings and has a nice view of the beautiful hotel across the street. The interior is quite French bistro with ample seating in a separate area away from the espresso bar. I found the cappuccino here quite strong and the froth milk balance is off. Hard for her to pull a nice latte art. It just looks like a abstract art waiting for my imaginations! Nice time if you are in NOTL and tired of all those touristy places on the main historical street, I definitely recommend to drop by for a time out!
