There seems to be a great gelato spot on every corner in this cute little town, we stopped here based on prior reviews, and were in heaven-this is really an authentic Italian gelato made with premium and mostly local ingredients and my family enjoyed it on a sweltering day. They also had two types of paninis for those who wanted a quick lunch.

Delicious and very authentic Italian Gelato. We stopped by on the NOTL Ultimate Foodie Tour @niagculinartour and got to sample an assortment of Gelatos and Sorbettos. The flavours a full and distinct, grate care is taken to make sure each ingredient speaks for itself. Carlotta’s also passes the pistachio Gelato test where the colour is more pale green than bright green, and it delicious and not too sweet. Bright green pistachio Gelato is fake!

I’m usually a custard fan over gelato, but my husband absolutely loves gelato. We think this is the closest to authentic Italian gelato that we have been able to find close to us(in Cleveland, Ohio). They’ve mentioned in passing to us that they import all their equipment from Italy, which is pretty impressive! We enjoy their fresh gelato flavors very much, but this does tend to be on the sweeter side than the gelatos I’ve had in Italy — which is my only complaint.(I tend to order their fruit flavors, and today I had banana-kiwi and peach.) With that being said, you can’t go wrong with this place! My husband ordered their hazelnut and coffee, which was very good. The service is excellent.

Sooooo good! The gelato is refreshing, decadent and delicious. What gelato should be. Perfect for a spring/summer day and walking down Main Street. The staff were super friendly + helpful workers. They were generous in their portions too. I definitely recommend!

Visited here on a food tour while staying at the Falls and it was just lovely. The owners were personable and clearly take pride in their product. I had the«Cookies» Gelato with Espresso poured over top… on a chilly March afternoon, I could not think of a better way to enjoy this velvety gelato.

Abbodanza! Really is as good as it gets for gelato. You can’t get anything better on this side of the Atlantic.

Ein süßes kleines Kaffee, mit phantastischer Auswahl an Getränken und Gebäck. Wir haben sogar eine glutenfreie Auswahl vorgefunden! Lecker!

I first tried an ice cream bar(mint dipped in dark chocolate) at intermission during a show at The Shaw Festival Theater. $ 5US for a bar, and I KNEW I had to go visit the shop for gelato during my stay. The shop itself isn’t super fancy, there are some bar seats and typically a line(but free wi-fi can keep you entertained if you don’t use the type to decide on your flavor!) Just look for the yellow awning and walk inside the surprisingly NON air-conditioned space! The gelato is AMAZING! Smooth, rich and creamy; they give you free(LARGE!) samples to help you decide on your favorite flavor. Everything I tried was delightful: coconut, caffe, gianduia [chocolate hazelnut i.e. nutella!] and pistachio. They’re constantly changing their flavors, and their gelato isn’t the other thing that speaks for itself. They also have pasties, mini-cakes, ice cream sandwiches, fruit filled treats, ‘cake-pops’ and of course the hand-dipped bars. The tiny cones are a great option if you’re «watching your waistband» [said no one ever on vacation!] This is a MUST stop and a small serving goes a LONG way – they don’t skip on the portion size. You won’t be disappointed to use your calories on this decadent treat!

Last weekend when we made our second stop into the gelato shop we were excited to try our favourites again. This time though they were sold out of chocolate which was very disappointing, but I opted to get one of their ice cream sandwiches instead. My sandwich was a bit flat in taste and texture. The gelato on the inside was good, but I didn’t care for the cookie part. Overall the rest of my family enjoyed their individual gelato, but mine fell a little short of my expectations.

Holy Gelato! This place is the bomb! Authentic Italian ices with original, sinfully decadent flavours like bacci, chocolate and orange, chocolate and red wine, tiramisu, pumpkin. Or the more traditional but equally delicious Cappuccino, hazelnut, or lemon. A tense pricey at first glance but the quality is excellent. Go ahead and treat yourself. I went for the dolce vita and it was heaven. I also had an espresso which was very good but served in a paper cup which I did not like. If you really want to go nuts, they have a gelato burger. Ya you read it right, Unilocalers. A freakin gelato burger. The ‘bun’ is sweet, light and flaky and it is drizzled in melted chocolate. Good to share with a few of your closest friends… or not.

HIGHLY recommend! I absolutely love their gelato and their staff is very knowledgeable, at least the young lady who served me was. I I do have to say that some flavors have more of a soft serve texture than others which throws you especially on very hot days. The flavors I chose were Stratciatella and After Eight. Both were fantastic however After Eight was the softer of the two and melted quicker. Other than that it’s my favourite place for something cold and sweet on the NOTL strip and worth the money!

This is the best gelato around for 1000s of miles. What it is not — no preservatives, no artificial sweeteners, no chemicals. Carlotta uses only organic ingredients, locally sourced berries and products to get the most mouth popping flavors imaginable. I normally do not repeat places while on a trip. Carlotta was so good we went back again and again for an after lunch gelato each day we were in town. Try the pistachio — Wow! Dolce Vita — Yum, the fior di latte — simply amazing. You won’t go wrong with any flavor. Also, btw, they have some really good paninis that you should try if you’d like something before a wonderful dessert — same philosophy — fresh and natural. …and the servers are helpful, pleasant and charming. What a find!

Disappointed there was no hazelnut today. Also no semifreddos like in the pics(staff didn’t even know what I was talking about). On the plus side the lemon was great, and the dark chocolate and coconut torte was great.

Love it… fresh and real gelato with an Italian flare. Hand made Ice cream sandwiches and ice cream pips and mini cones and frozen cakes and about ten flavours. Had coconut and it was smooooth… tried hazelnut and if you like hazelnut you would love it, very rich. Great spot to stop for adults and fun kids cones and cups available.

Lovely décor and ambience in this little gelato place in Niagara on the lake. There were many different kinds of gelato and sampling them all would have just been ridiculous :) so I settled on mint chocolate chip and coconut. Loved the mint choco but wasn’t such a fan of the coconut. Would have liked all mint but they ran out. Nice little place to grab se gelato and continue walking around notl

Nearing five dollars for a single scoop cone, this gelato isn’t cheap. But it sure is damn delicious. I got one of the flavors of the day — almond. It was most excellent in all its sweet, sugary goodness. Lineup was long — out of the store long — on a Wednesday evening around 9 pm. That’s really impressive and pretty crazy. I imagine it being much crazier during prime summer season on a weekend. The staff did seem a tad overwhelmed and scrambling around to get people their orders and then take their money. I’m sure if I was serving people gelato all day non stop with no end in sight I’d be feeling overwhelmed, too.

I’m not even a big gelato fan but this was heaven in a cup. I got sucked in because they were giving samples on the sidewalk, and I tried the local strawberry. It was divine. I can’t even describe it or compare it to anything else. It was very sweet, very refreshing, and you could taste the *real* strawberries(with seeds and all!). Needless to say, I ended up buying a full-size serving. I am just happy I don’t live close to this place or I’d be going every day. and we all know that just wouldn’t be good for me.

Italian-style gelato– like they brought over the Italian ways of making gelato –the freshness, purity, and taste– to this little town. Not imitation and definitely not Americanized, this place came highly recommended. On a Friday evening, we had very patient and friendly employees help us because we just couldn’t decide– do we take a mini scoop? A regular scoop? How about one of their biscotti-gelato sandwiches? Or a cannoli or strawberry sorbet IN a massive strawberry? We finally decided on the orange gelato and strawberry pana-cotta gelato. The orange gelato was mind-blowing. I literally felt like I was having a sweet orange explosion in a sorbet-gelato flavor! I especially love the rind pieces buried in my gelato. The hubs got the strawberry pana-cotta, kindof like a sweet strawberry ice cream. It’s true, they aren’t the typical ice cream place and they don’t have 501 flavors, but they really know what they are doing… we came twice in the three nights we were here. Kudos!

There is no shortage of ice cream and gelato places in Niagara-on-the-lake but this place seems a bit more unique and modern than the others. They only serve Italian inspired gelato, so if you are looking for ice cream, you are better off looking elsewhere. They try to source local products as much as possible, which is impressive considering the selection of flavours they have. I had a small cup with half pistachio and half hazelnut. The gelato was quite good, the hazelnut had a good flavour reminiscent of Nutella, but the pistachio had a much more intense, nutty flavour. I also tried the Alfonso mango flavour, which in my opinion was the best, it basically tasted like biting into a real mango, so refreshing and delicious. The place itself is modern, clean, and bright. The lady behind the counter was vey helpful and patient with us as we wanted to sample several flavours before committing to what we wanted. They also have a small selection of cakes, pastries and other desserts. If you are looking for some delicious frozen treats in Niagara-on-the-lake this place should be on your list.

Beautiful soft, creamy shades if yellow warm this space and the yellow awning outside is easy to spot along the main street in NOTL(Niagara in the Lake). Carlotta opened it’s doors in June 2013 and there is a possibility of a franchise. They’ve apparently also landed a chance to offer delectable, preservative free gelato in the Stratford Theatre. That’s quite a feat! We stopped in and after taste testing many flavours we decided on gelato sliders in banana flavour and affogato in crema di Carlotta flavour. Both delicious! The espresso wasn’t bitter or water and I could have had three… Considering I was having the Affogato which is gelato in a glass then doused in espresso, I decided to hold back and have only two. What a great cozy space with wide wooden planked floors and that gorgeous Italian yellow shade that I see in many kitchens in Italy. They also have an affiliated B&B around the corner, La Toscana di Carlotta. I’m looking forward to staying there on my next getaway to NOTL.
