This must be the worst Royal Oak in the city. The food is terrible!!! We ordered the large nacho which is 16 dollars, when the plate arrived it maybe has 16 nachos on it. That is ridiculous, pick any other public or restaurant there are many in the area. We complained to the waitress, she did nothing. Be warned! Other Royal Oak is the city rock! Do not write the restaurant off, other locations are much better.

Ok to go to if you want a drink while you wait for your table at Penelopis. If you want good food walk across the parking lot. If there’s a table available.

Yuck. I don’t know how you can screw up fish and chips, but these guys do. Tried their food three times and it sucked every time. Time to try the Barley Mow…

We went for their Friday evening fish and chip special. On another visit I had asked the server if they used a separate deep fryer for their fish. I know English style fish and chip and a fryer at a different temp has to be used for fish or it turns out greasy. I was told at the time yes, they have one for fries and one for fish. At $ 14.99 on special we got a small piece of haddock in a thick and heavy, greasy batter with a slimy undercooked texture on the inside and glistening with grease on the outside and tasting of burnt batter, a handfull of chips, and what tasted like bottled tartar sauce and a very small and dryish lemon wedge. The fries were dry and tasted like previously frozen. Service was attentive and pleasant. I cannot recommend their fish and chips.

Nice pub, well decorated and clean. If you are celiac, don’t expect to eat much on the menu :(They have good drink specials, and the service is ok. I like that they sometimes have live bands, but the music is way too loud and you can’t hear the person next to you. It’s an ok place but I won’t rush to go back any time soon.

3.5 stars, if only I could. Boy oh boy, did this place have a lot going on for so late on a Sunday evening! We had been to a pool party during the gloriously beautiful afternoon, and were too hungry to go home and take the time to cook. After all, it was late, and we had to work the next day. So, we were passing by here on the way home. I have to admit that this was our 2nd choice, but Pinelopi’s Greek Kitchen was closed at 8:00pm on this particular day for a private function. One of these days I will try that place! Meanwhile, we ended up at the Royal Oak because it was closeby and it was still open, and we were hungry. There’s lots of seating in this restaurant, and they offer a patio as well. Inside the restaurant, they have a few TVs scattered around the room which were showing FIFA, and there was background music playing. On top of that, they were running a Live Triva contest! So all in all, it was very loud in there for us, although the place was not very busy with customers. No surprise there — it was about 8:30pm. The waitress admitted she was tired. This was almost a 12 hour shift for her, although she had had a break in between. So this wasn’t her typical chipper service. Or so it seems. She was a little long following up with the drinks and the refills. But the chef was really on the ball! The hubster ordered fish and chips which were ok. One of our friends ordered a veggie burger with fries and although he said he loved the fries, he didn’t finish them. I ordered butter chicken which was fabulous! All the plates had a lot of food on them. I took some home for lunch the next day. Everybody enjoyed their meal. It was just a little slow in coming, although there were only maybe 3 or 4 other tables occupied.
