Stubbe Chocolates

Delicious chocolate, hot chocolate and espresso! This place is amazing. German chocolatier. Family has been in chocolate for 3 generations! Truffles galore and truly awesome chocolate treats.

Hazelnut cookies and milk chocolate bars… amazing quality, smooth and addicting!!!

Went on a food tour offered via Byward Market Oktoberfest (C’est Bön is the company doing the tours). This was one of the stops. I’ve probably walked by it 50 times and not given it a second glance. It is now our go-​to coffee stop in the market.
*Amazing* chocolate, and a great coffee concoction they call Choc Moch (pronounced like chalk-​mawk) which would, in most places be referred to as a Café Mocha or something similar. But have to say — Stubbe’s is way better. More chocolate, not as much sugar, and very smooth. Delicious! Complimented with a great choice of chocoate (say the milk chocolate with dried cranberries? or their newest product chocolate covered cocoa beans? Or a truffle?), it’s a wonderful moment of peace in a busy world.
I should mention:
— 5^th generation chocolate family, relocated from Germany to Ottawa 25 years ago.
— Have shares in fair trade cocoa plantations, so they know where they are getting their raw materials from and are very (rightly) proud of their quality
— great place for some fun seasonal items like hand painted santas — think pumpkins, high heels (valentines), bunnies etc.
— great place anytime for a high quality chocolate fix.
Would I recommend: Yes
Would I return: Yes. (Choc Moch, here I come!)

Stubbe chocolates offers up what amounts to be some of the best chocolate in Canada. A family run business that began in Germany in 1845, and relocated to Ottawa in the 1980’s– definitely worth checking out!
I purchased a modest order for an event of over 300 pieces chocolate, they exceeded my expectations– it was ready quickly, and was amazingly delicious.
They carry a large variety of chocolate, all made in house in an open kitchen. While there, I picked up a hot chocolate that was approaching perfection.
Go out of your way to check this one out!

I am kind of addicted to their marzipan, as the good folks from Stubbe, Heinrich, Pilar, & Anne, all know!
They do the marzipan in the shapes and colours of small fruits, but also a higher almond paste content with a chocolate shell that cracks so perfectly when you bite into it.
Also, the florentines are lovely, and of course, the truffles.
The small chocolate heart ‘box’ with truffles inside that my husband bought for me at Valentine’s was so perfect.
My husband and I have a date to go sit at one of their little bistro tables and enjoy a real cup of hot chocolate.
If you live in Ottawa, you have to know Stubbe!
